SB 5 would help to get rid of bad employees. How many Columbus Public School drivers have serious records and issues, but have been saved by their union.

The State of Ohio should require seat belts on school buses . I dont know if they would have saved this kid , but they might save the next one .

Carol is sad beyond belief. I don't see how 30 days will solve anything. She is a bus driver and shouldn't be in jail. It's not like she was on cocaine or smoking pot or drunk. Jail is for criminals, not for bus driver's who didn't mean to hurt anyone.

Oh good lord how brainless. This story has nothing to do with SB5. Stop grinding your own insecurity-based axes and get a life.

30 days for a child's life and lying. Was justice served?

You are right parents should never have to bury their children, but unfortunately that does happen in life. All we can do is pray that God grant us the strength to accept what has happened. I will be praying for peace for both the driver of the bus and the family that lost a child. No winners in this story.

A precursory search shows that only 3 states require seatbelts on school busses. Of them, one requires shoulder harnesses.

The argument against (as I have heard) is that in case of an emergency it would be too difficult to get the children out of the bus in an efficient matter. The other argument against is cost.

The former argument- I don't know how that hypothesis has been tested, so it is hard to speak to the voracity of the claim.

The latter argument is weak and lame at best.

"...still have to go through this everyday."

He meant "every day." Nice editing, Dispatch.

Really sad all ways around as I am sure the bus driver is so sorry for what happened. Who knows at such a tragic event she may have thought she saw a car in her minds desperate attempt to explain what happened. How can a jail sentence really punish this person.

I fail to see where she committed any crime. Driving wrecklessly, intoxicated, on a cellphone? Seemed like an accident to me.
She did not commit a crime. She committed a traffic offense by not maintaining control of the vehicle. Because of that a child lost their life. People should take responsibility for their actions.
