It's not the town, but the people. Everyone still thinks the civil war was fought yesterday. And slavery and the KKK are in town. This town is backwards. People still want to start trouble where there should not be any. Two, examples. My neighbor said his tractor was like a black man(not exactly his words) only worked when it wanted to. Dumbass comment. and on the other hand, I went to a couple stores where the black employees acted as if you owed them something and wouldn't wait on me. Bottom line is two wrongs don't make a right. And Being ex-military I have been all over the world. And in lots of small towns. And this one by far, is the worse. It's backwards as hell. People still hang out at the convience store and drink with paper bags and no one runs them off or challenges them. The police dept is useless. This goverment is useless. They are more interested in Friday night high school ball games than going to the troubled areas and patroling and getting these people out of town or off the streets. Madisonville is a great little town for example, It doesn't have anything either, but everyone knows everyone and everyone gets along. Here, I carry a weapon with me at all times, because their reaction time would be none existant. But The moral is, it's the individual, not the town. I like everyone. If your an ass, then your an ass in black or white.

I lived in franklinton before katrina.I never known it being as bad as I have heard it being. what is happening over there.I still miss it.every hurricane that comes through there it get worse and worse.it was bad, but not this bad.franklinton never had drive by stootings, but young kids changed that.maybe all the strong wind still has some peoples heads screwed up.the wind needs to blow from another direction.I visit once a year,so my communication with franklinton is the internet.

It's still a pretty rundown but' other small towns like Madisonville, Ponchatoula which are pretty and safe, it's bad. The only building's worth a damn are the courthouse, police station, and a the new post office. there's no business here to speak of. The town itself has worn out clothing and used furniture stores, a pawn shop and don't forget the ACE hardware. This town could be quaint and beautiful if they would arrest the bums and wino's hanging out on the street corners and conviencence stores with there 40oz's. Their priorities are redneck and backwards. Just like Bogalusa. In South Carolina where I am from Our small town's have been refurbished. Our old theater is now a performing arts theater. There are no pawn shops. etc. It's like it was back in the day except very clean and everyone knows everyone else. their kids are home when they are supposed to be. Here the kids hang out in the Winn Dixie parking lotat all hours of the night. The cops give tickets for seat belts and sit in the parking lot at ACE instead of patroling the bad neighbors and making a presence. It's a lazy town, no progress. Their are signs of john doe mading allstar at the high school. There should be signs saying franklinton is drugfree and crime free. Show's you their priorities.

Yes, this town is a little behind times. What you have to understand is that this is the way the people want it here, they do not like change. It baffles them. I recently built a house about 5 miles outside of town and am looked down upon b/c I am a "come here" from a nearby parish. The problem is that the people who look down on us are no better than we are and most of the ones looking down on us don't even have an education. If some of the locals who think they are better than others would use some of the "money" that they claim they have and use it in a positive way such as opening up a pool hall, skating rink, etc. it would give the kids in this town something to do on the weekends instead of just hanging out in parking lots. I don't blame the kids for hanging out in parking lots, what else is there for them to do? As far as kids being home when they should be, I blame this on the parents. As a parent of a teenager, it is your responsibility to make sure that your child is acting in a responsible manner whatever he/she is doing.

YOUR ARE CORRECT, I SERVED IN THE MILITARY FOR 7 YEARS AND RETURNED HOME TO FRANKLINTON AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED. THE TOWN NEEDS YOUNG LEADERSHIP TO GET TOWN MOVING IN A POSTIVE DIRECTION. THERE IS NOTHING FOR YOUNG KIDS TO DO OTHER THAN DRINK OR GET INVOLVED IN DRUGS OR MISCHIEF. THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE MONEY AND ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THE TOWN NEED TO INVEST IN A CENTER TO PROMOTE POSTIVE THINGS FOR CHILDREN TO DO. WE HAVE MORE RESTURANTS, FINANCE COMPANIES AND BANKS THAN I HAVE EVER SEEN IN A SMALL TOWN. THE TOWN NEEDS TO EMBRACE CHANGE AND BRING JOBS TO THE COMMUNITY OTHERWISE IT WILL DIE, AND THEY WILL BE WONDERING WHAT HAPPENED, BECAUSE INVESTING IN THE FUTURE IS THE KEY IN THE RIGHT WAY OF COURSE. I HAVE EXPLORED THE IDEA OF MOVING, BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING HERE FOR YOUNGER ADULTS. THE POLICE NEED TO CRACK DOWN ON DRUGS HARD, OTHERWISE IT WILL BE A LITTLE N.O.

I am interested becouse I recently took a ride to this little town. The reason I went is becouse Im looking for a quite place to spend my so called golden years. If I bought there then I would be considered a {"come here"}. Dont know what that intails. If it included being harressed or bothered by people I dont know then I may have to continue to look else where. But what I did see even thou I did not go to the heart of Franklinton I thought it appeared Quiet and Peacefull. If your small town hides it ture color in the light of day I would realy like to know!
Where Im from is "home" but I dont want to retire here.So if any one can give me a heads UP,I would realy appericate it.

The outskirts of town is nice and quiet. Its just that people can't just say good morning or how are you doing without putting you in a Class, so to speak. I am white and thats all there is to it. I treat a person as well as they treat me. I respect everyone because thats the way I was raised. I do find people of all colors waving as I drive by which is nice, but you still have blacks and whites with a chip on their shoulder and thats how they were raised. I am hoping people will help each other out like they did for the hurricanes, but I know that is expecting too much. and we will go to our graves still talking about racism. Dr. king wanted everyone to be equal and good to one another, but as long as you have Reverend Jackson and the Al Sharptons of the world still trying to bring us down, then you will have racism. Their are many good and successful black americans in the world and then there are the ones who where their pants to their knees and listen to music so loud and with the N-word, that only they can use, that keep it going. The same goes with the Whites. And to add all that on top on the racial cake is the Hispanics, Just this week 4 people I knew on the west bank were killed by Hispanic robbing them. And I am sure they were illigals(only wanting to come to this country to better themselves), give me a break. Unfortunately, it's not just franklinton that has its problems, it's everywhere. It's how you carry yourself that counts.

A bunch of dumbheads with their heads up their %#$&!
The world is like it is because your mom and dad didn't have the right stuff, nor understood what this world is turning to. They want all of us to fight so that they can control us. Keep your foolish black asses home if you don't understand that and get a job, stay off welfare and take of your children. Use your churches for prayer and not politics

Some of these coments I can agree with. Some I can't. I feel the people here are afraid of change. I also fell there is nothing for young aldults and young children to do here. This town is for retiree's. but I do love the fact that the community is tihgt-nit. I feel like alot of our cops are scared little boys hiding behind a badge. Not all of them. But yes some of them. As far a race goes. There is alot of pred. poeple in franklinton. In the black communities as well as the wite. People in the black comunities feel like nothing will ever change. like they never be equal to the wites. People in the wite communities feel like the don't want the black people envolved because they are trubble makers. Every were you go there will be this prob. but there are bad seads in each race. I feel like most, not all,but most of Franklinton is closes minded and need to get out the box. P.s. I'm speeking from bloth sides of the race fence.

I LIVE IN FRANKLINTON, AND OWN A BUSINESS HERE. I AM A "COME HERE", AND IT WAS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I HAVE EVER MADE IN MY LIFE, COMING HERE, SINKING MYSELF IN A BUSINESS IN A TOWN WHERE THE ECONOMY IS ON THE ROCKS, THE TAXES ARE THE HIGHEST IN THE STATE. I HAVE BEEN TREATED MISERABLY BY BLACKS & WHITES, EVERYBODY HERE IS CRAZY, AND WHEN I SEE PEOPLE ACTUALLY CONSIDERING MOVING HERE, I FEEL AN OBLIGATION TO TELL THEM HOW IT REALLY IS HERE.
BECAUSE NOBODY TOLD ME. THE COPS ARE A JOKE, THE YOUTH IS TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL, THE OFFICIALS IN THE TOWN ARE CORRUPT, AND IF ALL THAT ISNT ENOUGH FOR YOU, THE DOG FOOD PLANT STINKS!! AND BELIEVE ME JUST WHEN YOU THINK THAT IT CANT POSSIBLY GET ANY WORSE, YOU LOOK AROUND, AND SEE SOMETHING ELSE THAT IS SO ABSURD, YOU DONT BELIEVE YOUR OWN EYES. WHEN I TELL PEOPLE HOW CRAZY IT IS HERE, THEY LAUGH, THEY THINK THAT I AM MAKING JOKES. BUT AS GOD AS MY WITNESS ITS ALL THE TRUTH. BELIEVE ME, YOU DONT WANT TO MOVE TO FRANKLINTON, SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE, WHERE THE TOWNSPEOPLE ACTUALLY WORK FOR A LIVING, AND WHERE YOU CAN WALK DOWN THE STREET AND BE RESPECTED AND TREATED IN A FRIENDLY WAY. YOU CANT EVEN GO GET A HAMBURGER HERE WITHOUT IT TURNING INTO A MAJOR ORDEAL, BECAUSE YOU WILL BE TREATED RUDELY, AND HAVE TO LISTEN TO EVERYONE THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE WORKING, TALK ABOUT "THEY BABY DADDY" ETC ETC SO ON AND SO FORTH.
TRUST ME, LIVING IN FRANKLINTON, AINT LIVING, ITS A MISERABLE EXISTENCE.

These are the most ridiculous comments I have ever seen. I bet half of the people posting on this thread have never been to Franklinton in their life but rather are just stirring up trouble. Franklinton is a very nice, very Christian small town that still has excellent values. Its high school is among the best for its size in the state (actual rankings). The only young people that I am aware of who have caused serious trouble are Katrina transplants and they can leave for all I care. The rest of our young people are a cut above anyone you will find in other places, because they were raised respectfully in Christian homes. If I were looking for the top 10 small towns in Louisiana, Franklinton would be on the list! It is a great place.....but no place is perfect, so I am sure there are always possible improvements.

I agree mostly with Barrister. I am a business owner downtown
Franklinton, have been in business here for 6 years and overall
find the people here in town to be very charming and very caring.
I also find most of the kids here to be respectful, well mannered
and raised with christian values. However, most of them drive
terrible!!!(lolol). My wife and I find most people in town very
very willing to help you in anyway they can. I personally see
virtually no racial problems here in town and I certainly do not
consider myself blind. As stated earlier, this town is old, very
quaint in its own way, and a lot of the people in town would like
to keep it that way. That being said, nobody is adverse to bringing in improvements, such as good, honest and valid businesses. This kind of improvements help the schools, help our
tax base, and generally helps the entire population. I will agree
that I see people hanging out at the "stores", but what are you
going to do? Shoot them?? By being there, they are violating no
laws....in America, it's their right, so who am I to tell them to
go away. Believe me, I'm not a do-gooder. I believe every man or
woman who wants to live the good life, should work hard and earn
their own way, without me having to totally support a lazy lifestyle for them......I personally think work is healthy for you
and keeps you young and active (old people always say that...(hehehe).
As for the Police Department, if you think it sucks, then why moan
here....get on the phone, call Chief Don and bitch like hell about
it!!!!!! He's no mind reader.....if you think officers are
screwing around with dope and not doing their jobs, then stop your
whinning and do something about it....call....call.....call. I
personally know most of these officers and absolutely do NOT believe anyone of them is doing or dealing drugs....the advantage to my statement is I live here, know them well, and have known most of them for years!!!!! I DO NOT agree with every change that is occuring in the PD, but that is my personal assesment. And comeon now...get real....the whole town is crazy?????? Easy enough to write criticism and charges here on the web....but where is your facts or proof and knowledge???? I mean, name names, recall actual incidents of drug dealings....etc....etc. Heck, you
want to bitch, look at whats happened to the Sheriffs Dept. 25 people laid off with more to come.....now that to me, is a MAJOR
problem....some of those laid off had 15 years on the job and they have families.....Aubrey Jones never ran over budget, nor did he
ever run out of money......so how about helping to solve problems
instead of pointing out problems with NO backup.......thank you for reading and have a great week (especially in Franklinton)...chow.

My response would be obvious....so I've lived here only 6 years...your point is????? My six years have been very active here
in town....I may be old, but certainly not stupid.....and I hereby
challange you to "prove" your points!!!!!! Serious charges like
this against any law agency is detrimental to the whole community and should only be made with facts....believe me Big T....you can
type and say anything on this web site, but that DOES NOT make it
true.....being raised here, I would think you would be a bit more
forthcoming......why not name names????? Afraid of the cops are you????? Or not able to prove anything.....just gossip....so as you say, pleazzzze......show me the money!!!!! or in this case, the cops doing the drug deals......if you can't or thru fear, just won't, then you should have nothing further to say. Right??? I mean, the proof is in the pudding, so dish it out.
My reasons for responding is, I hear this kind of "stuff" all the time....and yet, noone, not even the Big T, can come up with any type of solid facts.....just behind the door claims and I gotta say I think it's BS.....guarantee you, if I knew cops were dealing, doing or protecting drug dealers, I'd post all over the world....after all, though only 6 years, I have a business here and I do like this town very very much. Thats why I move here.
As for digging for info, I am doing that right now, so come on big guy, cough it up. Prove your claims and I'll take it a lot further than you ever will......
