If the family new this man was not taking his medication, why had they not gotten involved before mental health had to step in, now they want to blame PPD for this and say that they should have been allowed to try to talk to him. They should have been taking care of him.

L Hamilton, that is an asinine and unfounded observation and frankly amounts to communistic ideologies that have no benefit to the welfare of a freedom loving country. This is a Constitutional issue. Not only did the man have a right to refuse the medical evaluation(which they needed for a court ordered detention), the man had a right to be protected from unreasonable search and seizure as well as the right to be secure in his property. The man had a right to bear arms and the right to use those arms to defend himself and his property. The same people that were responsible for insuring those protections, in this case the PPD, were the perpetrators of his constitutional violations. Did you hear any mention of a court order mandating medical evaluation for this man or are you content with subjugating the matter. Get a clue you idiot and put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Just a prime example of why Police, Fire, and Ems need to be payed more. These guys put their lives on the line every day for us.Some take for granted what they do. We all should be deeply in dept to them for what they do for us EVERY DAY.

Mr. Sider, were you present when they came to evaluate this gentleman? Probably not! Just another person who think they know what really happened. Or are you speculating on what the news reported??

N. Sider if that had been two little kids selling cookies at his door and he shot them, then they would be complaining that police were not doing there job. He was obviously (when not on his meds) a very unstable person and a threat to himself as well as others, which gave the police a right, someone called them they did not go just because. Oh and you say that the mentally ill have a right to bear arms, you need to get a clue!

James, I would be careful who you call a filthy stinking animal. This man was a Vietnam vet. I call this more of a tragedy.

Why were we not called befoe police....why were we not allowed to talk to him first etc etc
My question is, where in the heck were you if you knew he was not all there.
Get over it, stop blaming everyone else and LOOK IN THE DAM MIRROR!

L Hamilton, two little kids selling cookies? That is even more asinine and irrational. You think the man would have felt threatened by two little kids. Utterly retarded analogy on your part. Please continue to subjugate with your ignorance and fodder, Please.

Ummmm. Did he not run away from the police with a knife in his hand?

Was the mental health worker responding because of family complaints?

You know nothing about emergency custody?

The caretaker function?

Oh gosh.

N Sider, your gonna save the world! LMAO He was not in the right frame of mind who knows what would have threatened him. I love the fact that you keep calling me names, if my opinion irrates you so badly, don't read it. Remember it is a free country. You are the only one that seems to think that the police were wrong, does this mean you have been in the back of one of those cars before?

N Sider you need to stop smoking your pipe and get a clue. Ask the parents of the kids at VT if they think the mentally ill should have a right to bear arms. You obviously need to read the article once more and get your facts straight.

the only thing you know about the VT atrocity is what you received through the media and hearsay. I was on the inside, therefore I know different. And what I know about it is none of yours or anyone else's business. You should educate yourself on the difference between fact and fiction Dorothy and pay a little more attention to the man behind the curtain.

I believe the family was taking care of him. He was a peaceful man who kept to himself. After he told the officers to leave his property they should have left. Either way PPD did not need 55 officers to respond to 1 mental man. The PPD could have handled the situation much better.

Most people are just understanding what the media is portraying which indeed, is not all the truth. They had new gadgets(i.e. robots) and men dressed in camo lined inside the ditches. The situation did not have to result to this, and now another shooting. PPD is just power tripping.
