what about your daughter?? not once do you and your wife seem to care that she is in japan, at least enough for the two of you to even mention her name. even the new wife's son only misses isaac and the family is left with only his clothes and toothbrush!!! maybe that's why the children were taken to japan by their mother. maybe, just maybe, she wanted her children treated with love EQUALLY by their "other" family!!!! since it seems kind of obvious there was a favorite to their father, i can't say i blame her for taking her children to a place where they are loved in the SAME way. i had a real hard time feeling sympathy for the father.

starr08, if you think the girl will be treated more equally in Japan you are sadly mistaken. Women in Japanese culture are taught to be subservient to men - since I lived in Japan for 11 years and married a Japanese woman, I'm in a far better position to know than you.

And have you ever heard of tape editing?

There is missing information in this story, what were the "grounds for divorce" and what is the ex wife's side of the story. Mr. Savoie has another wife, we never found out when he was divorced. Too much info missing to make a good decision about who deserves our pity. The children do obviously, they will not fit in completely in Japan. Children of mixed race are "chic" here, not normally that way in other countries.

My heart goes out to you as I could never imagine 1 day of my life without my children. The judge should have recognized the problem and left it at joint custody and given them back their passports when they are legal adults. I will pray for you and the safe return of your children.

Judge Martin has a God complex. He was the mediator in my divorce some years ago when he was still a attorney. I have never met a more arrogant jerk in my life. He should lose the right to practice law. He knows nothing about parenting, he doesn't even have children. He is a bully.

2 nameless: It doesn't matter what the full story of the divorce is or if he's remarried. This gives noone the right 2 leave with someones child unless there is a drug problem or signs of abuse.

That judge needs to be recalled, the lawyer who took Noriko's case disbarred. This type of action should never have happened! Where are the safeguards to protect children from parents who marry Americans and cannot seem to "fit" into American life? WE are a nation of laws, sadly our laws work against us by those who really don't immagrate here. Just do so for financial reasons. I pity the poor Dad, he obviously loves his children and tried to provide for them and his wife.

->Michelle; What matters is the entire story not one side of it. As someone else pointed out in an earlier post he seems to be only concerned (really concerned) about his son. That alone makes me wonder whether he cares about his children or is it about who "wins" in this situation. The parents never suffer like the children do, they are the only victims in a divorce.

This judge knew there ws a strong chance that this woman would take their kids and go to Japan against her will AND HE DID NOTHING ABOUT IT!!! This judge does not deserve to be on the bench anymore. When a judge does not have the balls to stand up and right a wrong situation then they do not deserve to be a judge. I feel for the father that his kids have to go through that. I am going through a nearly similar situation with my 5-year-old daughter and I know it can be agonizing. I hope that the right thing happens in the end and that the kids are safely returned to the father.

What can we glean from this story children ?

# 1 These judges will always side with the woman and screw you.

# 2 Marring foreigners often results in these situations.

Don't let the court's drag this out forever go get your kids man.

Judges don't always side with the women. I have an ex who has threatened to take my kids out of the country. He has always made threats to kidnapping them, to their safety, and has threatened harm to me if I try to interfere with his plans (which are about as wishy-washy as they get). He wants no responsibility for the kids unless he needs to parade them around at a family function or corporate family event. They come back from his place upset because of his constant yelling. He is an unmedicated bi-polar person who has made consistant threats over the years to kill himself and the kids. Yet, he still has joint custody and I've been told that I can not restrict visitation because he hasn't done anything yet other than make threats. Judges don't care what I feel he is capable of doing or even what he has made threats of doing - only what he has done in the past directly to the childen (what he has done in the past to me is apparently irrelevant). I don't understand why judges don't understand that it only takes once for something tragic to happen and that threats of harm to the children or kidnapping should be taken seriously. But, they didn't in my case and didn't in this one. There is no doubt in my mind that my ex will pull a stunt like this one day. It's not a matter of "if" but a matter of "when." I can just hope that when he does, he chooses mere kidnapping, not harm.

You all make the usual suggestion that because the story doesn't say he said something, he did not say it. This is not a "transcript", it's the reporter's story. He might have said tons of good things about his daughter, the reporter MIGHT have just not included it in this report.

What do we know?

The mother threatened parental kidnapping according to him. He was such a terrible father that he had partial custody, and then full custody. The judge COULD HAVE held the passports of his children but for unknown now TRAGIC reasons, did not.

Stop making cultural and pre-programmed assumptions on thinking this news report is any other then one persons opinion on a story.

I hope this works out, he needs his kids as much as they need him. HOPE that this works out and even give them a prayer. Positive goes a lot further in the world and gets more things accomplished then negative.

"But even more tragic is this: Christopher's ex-wife knew that Japan doesn't recognize family court orders from the U.S. "

Do they extradite kidnappers? Because that is what the wife is. Indict her for kidnapping and demand Japan return her for trial.

And does the media in general ever report all of the facts of a story? No, most of the time they are one sided and incomplete which gives us all something to speculate about and write comments!!!

I feel sorry for all children of divorced parents, not just the ones in this story. It is such a shame parent make life decisions on a whim, decide it's just not going to work out, then leave innocent children to pick up the pieces. And our society thinks thats okay.

I have a answer to prevent this, but it needs to be made legal. In cases like this why don't they flag the passport of these parents to check if they are breaking any laws or court orders if they are taking childern out of the country, And to go a step futher passports ...shouldnt both parents need to sign them for minors to prevent this?

Talk about making assumptions! We know nothing from this story other than his children have been taken to Japan by their mother. No mention of anything else has any bearing on the situation or events leading up to the situation. The children need a mother AND a father.

At the very end of the story the reporter mentions that the FATHER AGREED that the children could go to Japan with their Mother and then he turns around and says no I didn't want them to go and it is the Judge's fault. Contradictory to say the least. Also, how insincere did Father appear!! He is putting on a show for us all!!
