Some idiot is trying to dig up anything they can find.I'm sure anyone with life experience can tell you it does not matter if someone has a diploma or a degree, you can be book smart but be barely able to hold a conversation. a topic like this is irrelevant

Thats somewhat true, but no one else in the dept.or off the street is better qualified? There are people in prison who have had life experience but would you hire one ? I think not.Your argument is awfully thin on value or sense.

i meant experience on the job not life experience; degrees do not matter with a job like this. Does anyone in the street department have a degree for streets and sanitation?

the OP has a point though. how hard is it to get a high school diploma? our schools are a joke, unless you are braindead, anyone should be able to get one. not having one may be a sign of incompetence.

Your name on a piece of paper means nothing. It's getting the job done that matters. Get a life

Yeah but High school? With all due respect that leaves the dept.to an 8th grader.Just because a person can operate a front loader does not mean they've learned how to : operate a computer, calculator, deal PROPERLY with the public or employees, communicate, problem solve, properly conduct ones self under pressure, perform math skills, read,or write.Maybe in two years I'll get my sixth grader to apply.Sorry, but, your arguement is getting so thin its about to completely disappear.

And there are a few CEO that don't know how to tour on the paper shredder or work the copy machine, So your point is?

What is the point here? That someone without a H.S diploma is a second class citizen/plebian compared to someone with a degree and shouldn't be allowed to work for the town?
I've worked with and for plenty of individuals with a degree who had a box of rocks in the head and stunted work ethic.

May You be reminded that many of those who have died for us in the military and served for us...are lacking in high school degrees. Circumstances usually lead to this. Give a person a chance to prove themself. It may be the confidence of others that may bring one to pursue further education.
