gangs in Franklin Park

There is a new skateboard/basketball court park in Franklin park on Birch and Parklane in an isolated part of town near an industrial area. Ever since this park has been open, the neighboring areas have seen an increase of young men in their late teens and early twenties walking back and forth in the neighborhood, sometimes 3 or 4 times in an evening and in groups. They do not have skateboards, nor basketballs. Simultaneously the area has seen a rash of graffiti. My neighbors say they are gang members. Not sure if she is right, but she said that gangs mark their turf by hanging their shoes on the telephone wires around their "territory." If this is so, then there are a whole bunch of shoes hanging off the telephone/electric wires around this park and on Grand and Maple. Ever since this park has been built, the area has had problems. Does anyone know if this is true about the shoes hanging off the telephone wires as being gang markers?

Don't believe the BS, they are a bunch of mischevious kids...being kids. I would think it would be good to have a park in a slightly isolated area so nosey residents do not complain about the noise.

Too many of the cops spend their time on Mannheim Rd. in the unincorporated area, they should be in the neighborhoods where the taxpayers live. Don't worry so much about the hookers on mannheim or parking tickets.

It's possible it might be a gang. It really depends if the graffiti is gang related such as distinctive markings and colors which determine what gang is trying to claim that area as theirs. Also, if the teens you've been seeing are wearing the same color clothing.

I'm not too sure about the shoes on power lines, it could be a few different things: bored kids throwing their old shoes on power lines, gang claiming that area, crack/heroin dealers in that area.

I also live in a somewhat isolated area in Franklin Park (Mannheim and Grand behind motel 8) which is heavily gang infested.

i see these young men walk back and forth all evening..back and forth down chestnut. They have sweatshirts with hoods and they are talking on the phone. No skateboards, no basketballs. First one walks one way, then an hour later, he is walking the other way.. Then I see him going thru some garbage cans in the alley.. Really suspicious.

that area is right near 25th & Grand, i heard that is a hot spot for drug activity. more than one gang is contesting for that area.

I have seen several young punks walking behind Walgreens.. out of the cameras views. Also my 90 year old neighbor was mugged at 10 a.m. right in front of Walgreens. Nothing was caught on the cameras.. So much for that theory.

They the punk's are going 2 gene's & jude's,taco bell,or maybe they are kid's just hangin out,That's what kids do.They wear hood's because it's cold out.They are like YOU, They the punk's have alot of time on there hand's,so they make thing's up like you. yes I am thinking. Last night I was looking out.. I saw one young man come down chestnut, go into an alley on atlantic.. and stop. get on his phone, and opened a trash can. Then he left.. About a half hour later, another young man coming down from the opposite direction on Chestnut.. went to the alley, got on his phone and went to this same trash can. Does sound like something unseemly is going on.

its in leyden he made promises for votes in

shoes on the wires mark corners for drug sales so buyes know were to go. That spot has no thru traffic once the industry closes,and there is a park at that intersection how convienent. as for cops on mannheim. most of mann is franklin park from grand to fullerton there is only a few addresses that are unincorperated. and for the ticket cameras, they dont record crime,knuckle head! the are only activated when you blow a red light. there are over 30 crime cameras in fp in places you cant even see or would never know were they are. they can see alot. they are not all in plane view like chicago. they see alot more than punks hangin out at walgreens. the police see and know more than you could imagine, and im not going to give hints to were they are! As for the gangs most of them drive into town from else were to hang in fp or the jungle. fp may have a few gang members but who dosn't. so i hope i have cleared up any bs statements.

yea. a skateboard park isolated. There is a parking lot in front and there are all types of cars there. No one actually using the skateboard park. The park was a good idea.. but bad in the location. In a way FP has provided a ripe spot for hoodlums. I hope police swing by once in a while.
