Why don't they just outlaw motorcycles all together. Illinois does not even have a helmet law.

Thank you for that informational article Mark.
I happened upon the accident minutes after it happened. The Harley was in the Grand Avenue lane with its headlight still on. It looked to me that the forks were gone. The dusky street was lit with blinking emergency lights from the many police cars as the onlookers lined the street. The paramedics were busy at their truck.
Motorcycle riding is dangerous business. The streets are not like thirty years ago when I could count at any given time no more than four cars at the Mannheim and Grand intersection when the light was red.
It only takes a few cars to put a cyclists road perceptions into circuit overload. Riding a motorcycle is not even fun when one is put into that position. How does a cyclist perceive a person on a phone or blackberry?
Grand Avenue from Mannheim east to 25th is dangerous. More strip malls for more cars to pull out from without warning. If a car pulls out from the blind corner a driver might not be able to react in time.
We all hope that the cyclist will recover.

tHANKS TO ANYONE WHO WAS ON THE SCENE TO HELP THE CYCLIST. hE IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION AND BESIDES A BROKEN BACK AND SEVERAL BROKEN BONES, HE HAS LOST HIS LEG. HE IS GOING TO LIVE BUT IS BEING KEPT IN A MEDICALLY INDUCED COMA AT THIS TIME AND AS YOU CAN IMAGINE HAS A LONG ROAD TO RECOVERY AHEAD.pLEASE SAY A PRAYER FOR HIM AND HIS FAMILY.

I live in Franklin Park for many years. This section of grand Avenue between Scott and Mannheim is one of the unsafest I have ever encountered. And especially the intersection in front of the Jewel Parking Lot. Pedestrians are always crossing Grand right where there are cars turning into the parking lot. Most live in the apartment buildings and do no wish to go to the light to cross because it is inconvenient. Also there re people who go the Library there too. There is no light. This has been a concern for a LONG time. I am always nervous when I drive down this stretch of Grand Avenue. Not sure what the circumstances are with the most recent accident.. but Grand avenue has to have a more viable safety traffic plan.. maybe a light in front of Jewel? Again my thoughts are with the motorcyclist injured.

Why don't you start a new thread? This is the 'Motorcyclist in critical condition after accident thread.
You are off topic by quite a stretch.
What is wrong with you?

any word on the motorcyclist? Is he out of his coma?

How is a walk bridge going to prevent motorcyclists from danger? Can you read? More structures equal more dangers to cars, trucks and motorcycles. What you suggests will restrict vision and look like crap. People in a cage. Why not something simple like watching the road and slowing down? No, that is too simple for you.

How about better traffic planning to begin with. Whoever put in an entrance there so close after Mannheim Road is a moron.
