This article completely misses another key, and much less expensive method of securing better sleep: sleep accessories, such as sleep masks, earplugs, sound conditioners and blackout blinds. These items create what the National Sleep Foundation defines as the "ideal sleep environment", one that is dark, quiet, comfortable and cool. All of these products are healthy and work immediately. And they cost nowhere near what the items in the article do. Quality sleep masks can be found for less than $10; a year's worth of earplugs is about $15; good sound conditioners start at less than $50; and blackout blinds can be less than $20. Of course, many people do suffer from medical conditions, such as sleep apnea, which these products do not treat. However, millions of people simply need a better sleep environment to gain an extra hour or so of sleep per day -- worth more than a few pennies a day I would say.
