Folks, it may be unfortunate, but if you do not have, in the very least, a BA or a BS, your employer will indefinetly be McDonalds or Walmart and your address will be a trailer park in Grovetuckey (aka Grove City). Obtaining a BA or a BS is now the new "General Equivalency Diploma" and graduate school is like the new undergraduate degree.
Absolutely, there are those that may contend "I make good money and I didn't spend a day in college!" OK, that may be true, but you will probably be one of the last to be able to say that. Most manufacturers, financial firms, government agencies, service providers, etc. now require people to have a BA or a BS. Or if its not required, people with BA's and BS's are usually the preferred or "finalist" candidates.
THE MESSAGE IS REALLY CLEAR: prepare your child for college and be prepared to pay for it! If you don't, a short career in porn and a long career cleaning houses in Upper Arlington awaits your daughter. Your son will indefinetly be delivering pizza in Worthington. Then both your daughter and your son will be featured Grovetuckey residents on HBO.
Actually, you are probably just as likely to have a crap job with a degree in ohio, since there are no jobs here except for at McDonalds and Pizza Hut. Take my advice - DO NOT Go to college, unless you can go without taking out loans. If you can't pay cash money for college, go to work for your dad, or one of his friends and learn a trade. Don't take on more debt than you can handle.

It wouldn't be so difficult to get into OSU if they would start accepting more Ohio students and less foreign ones.
Get better grades, score well on placement exams and you will get into OSU... It's not impossible to get in as a freshman.

Unfortunately foreign students are smarter than Ohio students because foreign countries place a high emphasis on education. In Ohio we place a high emphasis on Buckeye football and beer. In order for colleges to maintain their educational ranking they need foreign students to pad their numbers.
It's abundantly clear that you were educated in the Northeast. I also bet you root for the Bo Sox, but only after they won the title in 2004 and it became trendy to do so. I hope that private education is paying off right now.

The 4 year degree is just the high school diploma of 15-20 years ago. Kids entering college are so ill-equiped it isn't even funny. But then when the attitude changed to one that everyone has a right to go to college, that' whent he downfall began. When you let people go to university who have no business being there, the standards have to drop to keep the tuition coming in. Like the infamous Judge Smails from Caddyshack stated, "the world needs ditch-diggers as well". He couldn't have been more right. One thing college students, better get that Master's or Ph.d because in the working world, BS/BA degrees are a dime a dozen.
Your username is "Kill White Babies". Need I say more? I'm a Capital Student and I worked damn hard to get here. There is no one here who doesn't want to be here. You don't pay thousands of dollars a semester to fuck around. Stop being so ignorant with ill-equipped research. You sound like a fool.

The concept that a college degree is "a ticket to a bright future" is simply no longer true. I'm not dismissing college (I have a MBA), but the amount of debt parents and kids are amassing (that cant be bankrupted out) is disturbing. Fact is, an average kids with a 2.8 or 3.0 GPA coming out has a dim future. Even worse if you let your kid take a BS major like Womens Studies or Eastern Euopran Lit. The LAST people you should be getting advice from is counselors or professors as they have a vested intrest in perpetuating the myth college is worth it. If I had to do over a again, I would steer kids towards working their tail off, live at home, same money, and start up a biz that they are passionate about. Better than making 60-70K a year from a corp to get downsized 5x in your career.

Listen, and I'm only going to say this once. Once you receive your degree, and being from Capital, your degree will only be worth something in central Ohio. Bad choice of schools. Anyways, I degress. Once you get your degree and hopefully enter the workplace that pays enough to cover your debt once out of your overpriced high school, you'll understand that your degree actually has no value after your first day on the job. The ONLY thing that might save your rearend is if you get a degree that actually is difficult to obtain, hard sciences, etc. But if your getting anything other than that, get in line to fill out the McDonalds application because you Communication and History majors ar enothing but inflated egos with no work ethic. Now, before you go off on an unexperienced, inmature rant, just think about it and some day you'll be thinking to yourself, Kill White Babies was right and I understand where he was coming form. The fact that you don't know where my screen name came form shows that your not very experienced. Enjoy your college years and wear a condom.

One of the biggest problems with education is the no child left behind crap. Quit teaching to pass tests and teach our kids so they can function in the real world. The world doesn't owe you a living, you have to WORK and EARN a living. This means you need to be able to communicate with customers, know what the hell you are doing, and be willing to WORK for what you get. There will always be "menial" jobs available. So far now one has developed a machine that can clean the office, store or restaurant. Someone has to deliver the merchandise, supplies, etc. That means truck drivers, supply people, etc. I stop going to places where the checkout clerk is on their phone during my checkout. I no longer patronize businesses where the employees are more interested in where they are going to party after work than to direct me to the correct department. A degree isn't a guarantee of a good income. Drive and ambition along with manners and customer courtesy take a lot of people a long way.
