Well Marge, did you ever go after any of the "white collar" crooks who use tax money to give jobs to cronies, pay for the airport and water to run to it, town buildings to store their antique gun collection, cutting and selling walnut trees at the old industrial park and pocketing the money, firing people for no other reason than they disagree with them or that they wouldn't suck up, giving away county property for private enterprises, routing and maintaining roads to accommodate themselves.....?

Maybe y'all don't do that kind of thing in Murphy, but it is "normal" in Macon County, wide open and well known which is why it can be done over and over again, keeping people afraid to speak out because of fear of punishment, loss of jobs, etc.

I was a road officer not a desk jockey and I now live in the Shooting Creek area regardless ow what my isp list. I go to Franklin to shop
y'all have nicer stores and better restaurants except for the Hville Ingles which is huge but the prices are more than Franklin. The Wal-Mart you have now is a dump and I look forward to the new one.

I skimmed over the posts about women in LE, and they made me giggle. No doubt, men have more upper body strength. There are certain situations that women handle better than men, and there are situations that men handle better ... that is true in every aspect of life. There is definitely a place and a huge need for women in LE. What is lacking in local LE, and perhaps all around the world, are physically fit officers. I believe officers have an obligation and a duty to maintain physical fitness.

And thanks, Nam Vet, for your service and your vote of confidence! I was and still am in better shape than 95% of local LE officers.

All LE Departments should require a bi-annual physical fitness test just like the military. If they want to play military, then they should act and perform like the military and do the basic PT Tests that the military does. If an officer flunks the minimum standards, then he has 30 days to pass or its "Bye Bye"! That would clear out half of the current crop of LEO's in Macon County and the PD's, especially the Chief in Franklin who hasn't been physically fit in over 20 years, if then!

I'm with you, BF. All LE officers have to do in this county is pass the POPAT (police officers physical ability test) during Basic Law Enforcement Training.

Implementing a program like you suggest would be wonderful. I would go so far as give the officers 6 months to prepare for the first fitness test. There would be a ton of grumbling, but in the long run, the officers will be better not just physically, but mentally, and their new fitness habits may just inspire friends and family members to follow suit.
