I too was adopted from the Sarah Fisher Home. I have never actively looked for my "birth parents" - but have recently began thinking about doing so. My birthdate is 1-25-58. My given name was Mary Katherine Darmody (it was changed after my adoption). Does anyone have any info about pursuing my search? Also, does anyone know - is it possible for us adoptees to see our records? If so how do I go about that?
My email is ljt_21@hotmail.com
Thanks,
Lauretta

I lived at Sarah Fisher from July 1965 to July 1975. I remember many things from those days. In particular, the kindness of Mr. Kresge who always made sure we had fun at Kresge's and later Kmart during Christmas. It appears it has been awhile since anyone posted to this site, but hopefully this is still active. I am securing information regarding Sarah Fisher and have many contact addresses of the nuns if you are interested. Reach me at Stvincentsarahfisher@yahoo.com

Hi,

I knew Mickey (Michelle) and Sherry Conley from Nazareth Cottage. I am still in contact with Sr. Margaret Ann. Please let them know I am trying to reach them. I previously stated my email where I am able to be reached, but will repeat it: stvincentsarahfisher@yahoo.com

Hi...My brother Chris and I lived at Sarah Fisher for 2-3 years (not sure) until our adoption in 1970. My birthday is 9-30-1966 and Chris's is 10-3-1965. Our surname was Evans prior to our adoption. My adoptive Mother is still alive (age 71) and she was a volunteer worker there at the center. Her name is Carol Gregoroff. She met my brother first and later found out about me. My parents adopted us blood brothers together. I remember we were in Bethlehem and Nazareth areas of the center. My adoptive mother told us our real grandmother would visit us--she was 100% Italian, from my birth mother's side. Never looked into before, but I have some strong leads now on getting info. My brother and I really want to find out our origin, possibly even locating our parents and other relatives. I remember Edna, we called her Aunt Edna. I would love to get in touch with some of the Sisters who were there then to get more info--if they remember us. Please email me at gregoroffdr@yahoo.com when you can. Thanks very much!

Hi Cherie,
You probably didn't meet me there. My brother Chris and I were adopted in 1970. My adoptive Mother Carol Gregoroff was a volunteer worker there. She met Chris first and then he informed her of me. My parents then adopted us together!
I remember Edna, we called her Aunt Edna and she would even visit us until our teenage years at our adoptive home where we grew up. I regret not searching earlier in my life (42 now), but better late than never. I would love to get in touch with any worker or nuns who might remember my Brother and I. Also, I'd like to get more info on my biological mother and possible sister/relative who visited us in the orphanage.
My real grandmother was 100% Italian and she visited us there too--my birth Mom's mom. I do have some leads on my real father now. Hopefully soon I'll get the whole story on why we went there in the first place, but I do have my theories for sure! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

God bless,
David

Hi Douglas, I saw your comment here and wanted to respond to you. I used to work at the St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher home back in the early 70's, in the front office. I just loved that job because I got to talk with and work with all of you kids there. I worked on special projects like decorating for masses, picking out the songs (remember the guitar masses?) also. Do you happen to remember me at all? I was a high-school student at the time and mostly worked after school until 8 pm and then on the weekends. I'd love to hear from you, your name does sound familiar to me.

Mike,
This may help. I found it yesterday on the net:
http://www.csswayne.org/docs/History.pdf

It lists the Father who retired in the late 60's.
Hope this helped!

2/27/ 09 If you want to see some photos of St. Vincent Sarah Fisher in Farmington Hills, MI, and the celebration of the Daughters of Charity 150th Anniversary in Detroit at Sts. Peter and Paul Church on E. Jefferson Avenue in Detroit visit:
stvincentsarahfisher@yahoo.com
Note: At this time, I have elected not to post any photos of children who resided there during the same years as I. I am concerned about privacy issues. There is a photo of myself there. The contact listed as Jeffrey is not known to me. Be careful. I am seeking an alternative site where perhaps something more secure than facebook can be designed.

Hi Cherie,
I'm sorry but I do not remember you. I am surprise with the feedback that has been coming in. I never expected all this when I wrote it. There were 5 of us Toth kids in St Vincent at the time. Me, my twin brother Dennis, brother Barry, sister Rosie and the youngest Marty. They all live in Tennessee and doing well. I live in Michigan. Our father is still living. If you remember, he was the Chef at Joe Muer's and the Nuns and Priest's use to go there to eat. He would come get us on Sundays and we would spend the day with. My twin brother and I had a family ( Sage ) that would come get us on the weekends and return us Sunday so we could spend time with our father. I remember Sister Margaret Ann, she was more like a mother to me than a nun. Please, if anyone would like to comment on this, please do.

Hello Madeleine. You were in the same cottage as my sister, Rosie Toth. Your brother Jim was in my cottage and your other brother John was in the cottage with my twin brother Dennis. I remember Sister Margaret Ann well. She was 1 of the nicest sister's there. I meet up with your brothers Jim & John a couple years ago. I hope you will respond to this.

Update....I just completed an adoption search and discovered that my brother Chris and I have two older brothers. I am the youngest of four. We were born 1963 through 1966. I am continuing my search for more information. I also found out that I entered Sara Fisher in 1968 and left in Oct 1970 at age 4. Chris was 5 when we were adopted together then.

Hello everyone!

I just started a Facebook Group for people like us! Please be sure to join it - This is the link: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php...

My twin sister and I lived at Sarah Fisher too. I live a few miles away from the home now. I plan to take pictures of it and add them to the new group for all of us to see before they destroy all of the buildings.

I want to write more and read everything here but I just got home and need to do some work - Please keep this conversation going in the group.

Donna and I took pictures there late 2008 and I will post them as soon as I find the CD that I put them on.

Sincerely, Debbie Lim

Nancy! You may remember me. I remember Kimberly Conley! I am Pammy Szymanski from Immaculata cottage. I was there about 1964ish to 1969. I remember going to the kitchen for the food cart. I remember learning to ride a bike at my cottage, it was white. I remember tadpoles in the stream past the black service road. I had a sis in Marrilac and another sis in the baby cottage (Bethlehem?) and a brother in one of the boy cottages. I remember riding that bike up and down the ramp where they did laundry?(Out building) I have a lot of fond memories. I even remember the pop machine in the rear door of the main kitchen! Going to Lake Brighton on the bus during summer! Mass processions down the long hall. Anyone else who was in Immaculata in the 60's who might remember me (or any Szymanski's), I had long, white blonde hair and blue eyes. I even remember taking naps in the dayroom on hot summer days and the round eating tables. I dream about Sarah Fisher often. I've dreamt of it my whole life. I remember the snack bar after mass, it was in the basement of Marrilac Hall? Whoa.

Hi, I'm Pam's older sister and lived in Marillac cottage. Our brother Jim and I played the drums and guitar in mass. I remember ice skating on the pond, playing in the woods, sledding, also the swim trips to Brighton. I only recall a Sister Eileen.

I'm very sad to hear Sara Fisher is coming to an end. Those were happy times given our family circumstances.
