Whenever I bring my child anywhere including the beach, I assume personal responsibility to protect and care for her. Leaving the care of my little girl to lifeguards is probably not in the best interests of the child. As much as I can sympathize with the parents tragedy, I believe that both the parents and the lifeguards need to accept some responsibility. For example, what were the child's parents doing when the child was drowning? Were they reading a book, or perhaps talking on the cell phone? The simple fact of the matter is that if the parents and the lifeguards were both doing their job, this drowning would not have occurred.
