Let's keep it simple. Ill state the subject if you agree comment with a yah, you disagree comment with a nah. Just want to see how the community feels...
Government benefits ( ex. Food stamps and medical cards) should only be allowed to those who can show proof of loss of a job with in a certain time frame of applying. Also anyone who can show proof of a accident or medical condition that truly prevents them from working. OR to the elderly who have busted there butts long enough but social security just is not enough...
So community yah or nah?

Yeah! But there are a few other situations that should be considered! Like single parents that bust their a$$es and are still struggling!

Yes I agree. And I would like to add that anyone receiving those benefits be given drug tests. I have to pass a drug test to keep my job that pays for their benefits so they should have to pass one to receive them.

Ok lets add parents who show proof of steady employment, the ones who can prove they are actually trying. I agree with that.

I have no problem with these type of parents receiving benefits IF it's for the welfare of the kids. If they get caught buying anything that is not NEEDED they lose or get a reduction in benefits. Cigs, beer, lottery tickets... you catch my drift.

Don't you think it would be easier for you to just let them starve. I mean, we would never want anyone to do more than their share. That wouldn't be American or christian now would it?

It's your western/christian culture that is the culprit, most people who receive government handouts are victims of your society. Do you think the drug addict that trades food stamps for drugs has a good life? Does it bother you when you see a poor person have something they don't need? Does it really have that much of an affect on you? Do the poor deserve nothing that is not needed?

I really don't care if the drug addict has a good life or not. If you have a job I don't care what you spend your money on. It's your money. But if you get any assistance from the government you should have to follow guidelines simply because it's NOT your money. Anybody that does not agree with that cheats the system.

It's the system that cheats. It seems as though once someone receives a monetary benefit it does become their money, by fair gains or not,so once it's theirs they get to decide how to use it. It's the American way.

That's where the guidelines come into play stupid. You meet all guidelines BEFORE you get the money. You are apparently government funded so no point in talking to you. From all of us job having, drug test passing people, your welcome.

nah

If the "elderly" truly busted their butts all those years, and did NOT spend every penny they got on brand new cars and the latest smart phone, they would have piles of cash to buy their food with.

With respect to those claiming disability, less than 5% of people out there are "totally disabled" prior to age 65 for a period of 3 months or more (slightly higher for women, slightly lower for men). And less than 1% are PERMANENTLY disabled, as in something bad happens and they NEVER recover enough to be able to work some sort of a job (but at the same time, don't die from whatever happened to them). In otherwords, 80% of the people drawing SS disability are committing fraud.

As for the unemployed; they already get unemployment benefits. If they weren't just jack-ass stupid with the paychecks they got for all those years before they lost their jobs, they could get by on their unemployment checks and their savings until they found another job.

We make being "poor" too easy. If we would just quit giving peole who don't work (for whatever reason) free food, housing assistance, college scholarships for their kids, SSI checks, and free healthcare (Medicaid), I bet they would get off their fat asses and work. Virtually nobody in the USA is truly living in poverty; America is the only nation on the planet that its "poor" people are fat. Travel across the border into Mexico, and you will suddenly understand what real poverty is. Our poor poeple have big screen TVs, cable with the sports package, and all their kids have a cell phone. NOBODY IS POOR in our nation.

And for those of you who argue "what about the kids of those bums who won't work?" I say simple, take the kids away from their lazy-ass parents and put them in an orphanage until such time that the parents are willing to work and take care of them. In the mean time, the kids will be taken care of, without giving a free ride to their bum parents.
