That's amazing. would it be too far off the mark to say that I WISH I MADE THAT MUCH? Ergo,$40k/yr is NOT POOR.
I don't feel poor, but that's what I am; $25k/yr.
How the f am I surviving?
By rights, I should be living in a cardboard box and eating catfood..
I sure HOPE that people making $40-50k a year aren't getting MEDICAID! WTF??

Columnist Examines Status Of "Working Poor" Without Medicaid Expansion. In continuing coverage, Brian Howey writes a column in the Kokomo (IN) Perspective (2/21) about issues regarding insurance coverage for Indiana's "working poor." The estimated 400,000 people in this group may make $40,000 to $50,000 a year but lack health insurance since their job doesn't cover it. "The choice for many isn't between Medicaid and some private insurance. The choice is between Medicaid and nothing," Dr. Aaron Carroll of the Indiana University School of Medicine told the House Public Health Committee. Governor Mike Pence has already stated that he is open to expanding Medicaid if the state can use the Healthy Indiana Plan but his office says "the governor 'flatly refused to expand the traditional Medicaid program in Indiana.'" Howey says that Indiana will be forgoing billions of dollars in Federal money and "flow of these federal dollars could bring about 30,000 jobs as hospitals expand."

While I realize that people get by on less than $25,000.00 a year, the $11.00 to $12.00 an hour required to make $25,000.00 is not an easy to live on wage.
If you receive health care for any amount above free, you would be hard pressed to survive financially.

Actually, you'd be surprised who's getting food stamps and medicaid. It sure isn't us. The folks getting it, aren't telling the truth to qualify. They dress better, they eat better, they have better cars, and they are living it up. That's the plain and simple truth of the matter.

The health insurance? No point in having it. The prices that hospitals and doctors are charging, no one can afford to go except the medicaid-ers. If you do have to go, then you end up like the woman in the other story on topix where the debt collector took her for everything she had. The rich getting rich off the struggling poor. Nice! He should feel like a real man.

The prices of food has sky rocketed. Who can afford to eat quality food? Or organic pesticide free food?
The price of food is very high then you hear this background noice of michelle obama talking about overweight children and families. OMG like is she for real. She doesn't cook or grocery shop.
The people that think they are making all the right decisions should walk a mile in our shoes. Try budgeting when there's nothing to left to budget.
It's a balancing act, robbing peter to pay paul but it's more like do we eat or do we pay the water bill?

These people have no clue. They pretend to know. Don't be fooled and drawn into the delusional bs when they say they understand. They have no clue. Besides, their speech was written for them by some high IQ Harvard Grad and they memorize it. Don't tell me you drank the Kool-Aid?

One more thing since I'm on a role.

You need medical care? Go tell them you're not a US citizen, you'll get medical care then. Oh and you'll qualify for food stamps for all your children born in the US regardless of what your income. Claim your nieces and nephews to. But, BiG but, the American family, same scenario, same income will get denied food stamps. The same people that built America and have defended America. To this day, still defend America. The same people who's tax dollars pay for the illegals childrens food stamps and healthcare. So much for the American dream because we're paying for everyone elses dream to come true.

I make that much and STILL pay $120/mo for healthcare, and they subsidize me half that because I'm not overweight and have good blood sugar, etc,(even further than the $400/mo they put in for me). But I get shitty healthcare. My problems are peripheral and the 'fix' isn't covered. So yea. It sucks. So I live within my means, but I just met a woman who works for JP MORGAN!!! and her KID was on MEDICAID????? WTF?????? I get nuts at this job, that's why I'm quitting it and doing something else, so I don't have to PUKE every day like that....

That would be a medical question only a doctor could answer.
The doctors charge for that consult:$420 out of pocket
Insurance doesn't cover sh*t.

Gee I must be one of the rich. But I know what you are saying about the working poor. Like my mother use to say, it is not how much money you make that makes you rich, it is how much you save.

So, those that make minimum wage, even if they work 40 hours a week, would have a very difficult time making it, unless they lived communilly, or in flop houses.
But it seems almost immpossable to work 40 hours in a minimum wage job.
So people are forced in cases to work multiple part time jobs to survive.
I read where some idiot introduced the idea that the minimum wage shouldbe raised to $9.00 an hour, reducing poverty, duh. While any wage increase will help, I do not believe any in power want to restore the standard of living to what it was before NAFTA.
And to the (my opinion) idiots that think stealing from the rich will improve their lot in life think again, it will not.
Unless the budget is balanced, and the deficet is reduced, we as a nation are doomed.
The only way, in my opinion, to reduce deficet, is to restore manufacturing jobs back to America, increasing the tax base in volumn.
Tax increases only hurt all's purchaseing power.

I'm going to write an addendum: I'm just glad I have a job and any kind of insurance at all. I can't be ungrateful; there are those worse off than me.

But if you made a little less you would get free healthcare.

David, how about "If you made a little MORE, you would get great healthcare and be able to afford it?"

Free is not free, Dave. I thought we all understood that.

A doctors TIME and CARE are not a RIGHT in this country. I only wish I'd paid better attention to what my money was buying when I agreed to pay for it for the duration of the year. Ironic, isn't it? I'm in the medical field and have the shittiest insurance on the planet. Medicaid has better insurance than what I have.

But seriously, I'm grateful for my job. Others opinions notwithstanding.

Congress gets it free, we pay for their health care, their children go to college free, they pay nothing! Why doesn't congress take a pay cut! I want to see congress live off of 40k or less a year with 2 kids. They have to pay for EVERYTHING, nothing is given to them free. And why is everything given to them free? We have to work and serve the public, we don't get anything free. We don't get 2 weeks off or 3 weeks off to relax. We don't get free health care. WE PAY FOR THEIR HEALTH CARE!
You can all sit and whine and cry, congress is the one fu#@ing you.
