They will be using "motor coach" type buses not charter buses, there is a difference. If IndyGo is going to expand to cover more then just Marion County then cost should be shared by all. I have no problem with IndyGo expanding to other counties if it was doing the job in Marion, but it is not. The taxpayers that are footing the bill should come first.
Go get on the Fishers bus and ask the driver if he's an employee of IndyGo. I guarantee you he's not. And they are going to use the same buses for Carmel as the Fishers bus.
Second, your "Marion County only" tax money is not going to it. The grant that's paying for it is a federal grant. Correct me if I'm wrong, but federal tax money can be used anywhere in the nation. And the other 20% is coming from the fares and Carmel. So, where is your "Marion County only" tax money going for this? Answer that?

We had a commuter service from Surry county to Winston Salem. It was only going to be two buses but had to add a third right away. We didn't have a big ol' bus. We had very nice commuter buses. They were roomy and comfortable. It was great fun and also a great way to get back some personal time to read, relax, or listen to your ipod. And it is great to help our environment. Yahoo! Note to Indygo...Check out the PART buses on the PART website.

I do think it would make sense to have two or three different stops before the buses head downtown. They'd almost certainly have higher ridership that way, and it would still be an "express" line. The Fishers bus could stop in Castleton, for example. The Carmel one could stop around the Keystone Mall area. Didn't they do it that way when they had those special express buses during Hyperfix?

Anything new about this bus? Has anyone heard anything about the start date and pickup location? I'm ready to park my BMW and start taking this bus everyday! Thanks for any information.

I can't believe the comments I'm reading! A chance to work instead of drive. A chance to decrease traffic and pollution. A chance to meet new people. Why wouldn't I take the bus? In fact, just logged on to get more info about this time, cost, and environment-saving option and happened to read all the negative comments from people who know nothing about me or my neighbors. Get a clue!

If you go to indygo.net you can sign up for their newsletter which should give advance notice when the Carmel Express is about to start operation.

The route would go on US31/Meridian down to downtown. It's nowhere close to Keystone Mall.
The possible optional stops, however, could be near 96th and/or 86th St.

Count me in! I just moved here last year, and am a bit disappointed in the mass transit options. This looks like a step in the right direction. It would be nice to see a light rail running down 31, but I understand that would be a pretty tall order.

Rode the bus today - very nice and convenient.
Took hardly any extra time to downtown Indy vs driving the car. The biggest slowdown - at numerous stop signs on Illinois. The downtown loop takes about 15 minutes.
I'm sold - would gladly ride again.

I love the way bus routing has a hidden agenda now. Carmel is one of the most transient communities around; the city does have its share of the "less than fortunate". Most of the stereotypes about the Carmel community perpetuated here are ridiculous.

"A lot of these people in Carmel left Indianapolis because they did not want to associate with the type of people who have to depend on the bus for transportation. Do the terms classiest or raciest come to any bodies mind?" - JEF

Some people amaze me.
