Ok so tell me why I submitted my little card 2 weeks ago still have not recieved the boxes yet my neighborhood went dark TODAY...when it was not supposed to....I HATE THE PLANT BOARD and wish that everyone had other alternatives and DID NOT HAVE TO GIVE THEM YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY...I guess being owned by the City has its advantages you can screw people left and right...now I wonder if my bill will be discounted because of this...well hell no it wont be.

I just came here to Topix specifically to ask a question about the plant board, lucky me there was already a thread started. I've managed to get my TV, phone and internet from other providers. And I'm on the west side and we can get satellite, I've had Dish Netowrk for almost 2 years. I had a fellow tell me today during a rant I had over my electric and water that I don't have to have the plant board.... SAY WHAT? He said you can request Bluegrass Energy and Farmdale water service. he swears he knows people that do that, he said his son and daughter in law who live in the meadows do that. But we don't live anywhere near Farmdale so is that even possible? We're in the city limits, so is there really no other alternative for electric and water besides FBP?

FEWPB is ONWED by the city of Frankfort, they are a municipal utility, there is NO competition for services. the FPB OWNs the power poles and will not lease to outside providers for service.

Farmdale water district BUYS THEIR WATER from the FPB.

BLUEGRASS ENERGY DOES NOT PROVIDE SERVICE IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, whoever told you that is a damned liar....and I will tell them so.

Neither does KU or Eon.

The FPB is a PURE monopoly and if it were a private entity, it would have been broken up long ago.

I am confused about this "west side" BS?......Dish will install no matter where you live, unless you are not the home owner and the home owner refuses to allow the installation,....same with apartments (but there are ways around those).

If that satelite can see north or southstar sats,...you can have service.

Ranger, sorry to correct you, but Bluegrass Energy provides electric service to the westside of rural Franklin County. BGE provides electricity from the Anderson county line at 127 to the Evergreen Road area up to our farm, then it is FEWPB. BGE also handles most of the back part of Bald Knob.

KU provides electricity to a vast majority of the Peaks Mill area, not where the new school is, but further back.

I know these two companies do because I now live on Evergreen and have for 21 years and lived in the Peaks Mill area for 27 years. My cousin lives on Lebanon Road and he has BGE and always has, well except when it was called Fox Creek RECC.

Well I'm not a liar, I live in Franklin County and I have Bluegrass Energy. I'm also confused about the "west side". Directv will install anywhere also.

KU has service in Franklin County. I pay my elec bill to them every single month. I don't think you can live in the "city" limits and have KU. I live in the "county"

I stand corrected about the issue of KU and BGE servicing the county, outside the city limits, or the city proper which reaches to the NEW evergreen raod access on one side and the Lewis Ferry access on the other.

Sorry about that.

yes as much as I like to complain about FPB when we lived in Peaksmill we had KU, Bell South,Peaksmill water district, and some crappy 27 channel cable and all in all when we moved to town our bill got cut in half. This was of course about six years ago and I think FPB has done some catching up since, but still in their defense I guess it could be worse.

Just to answer some questions on this topic.

You cannot request different water or electric providers in Frankfort,Franklin Co., or even in Kentucky. You get whomever serves that area.

As far as cable goes, you can get DISH or Directv almost anywhere as long as you have a clear view of the southern sky. I think its the southern sky. Thats the way my Dish points.

And Franklin County does have 3 different electric providers and at least 4 different water providers.

Water-
FPB serves the city. And they also serve all the way out Georgetown Rd down to about wear the Old Brando's used to be. They out Holmes St to around Peaks Mill Rd. They go out Louisville Rd to just past where the Go-Kart track used to be and out Evergreen Rd to I-64 overpass. They go out 127 to right around I-64 and serve part of the subdivison just behind the new BP and Lee's Block. They also go out US 60 toward Versailes into Woodfordd County. They also serve down into the Clfton, Shoreacres and Steele Rd part of Woodford County.

Water Districts-
The water districts in Franklin County serve the areas they are called. I don't know them all be US 60 water district serves out Louisville Rd. Farmdale serves the Farmdale area, Peaks Mill serves Peaks Mill area, ect...

Electric-
FPB serves most of Franklin County. They serve all the city and all the way out to the Peaks Mill area. How ever they don't serve the new school out there or the newer part of Peaks Mill. They serve out Bald Knob a little ways and out Louisville Rd all the way into Shelby County. The serve mostly houses only on Louisville Rd all the way to the Elementary School in Shelby County. They also serve out 127 almost to Sacks. And they serve into Woodford County down Glenns Creek Rd all the way out to the McCracken Pike area.

KU serves mostly from the park on Georgetown Rd, part of silverlake into Scott County.

BGE serves mostly southwestern Franklin County. Areas like Green Wilson Rd and parts of Lanes Mill, down 127 and into Anderson County.

Water is cheaper from FPB because these districts buy from FPB and must sell it a little higher to make money. Thats way when FPB increases water wholesale rates in affects everone in Franklin County.

Electric is cheaper from KU. They sell to the FPB which turns around and sells it to the customer. But FPB is cheaper the Blue Grass Energy.

And I dropped home phone years ago for cell phone only. So don't know how those rates compare. And like I said earlier I have Dish so I don't know much about the cable, except that I get more for less with Dish.

Hopefully I gave you some information where FPB serves in Franklin County.

I beg to differ.... I would LOVE for someone like Windstream to step in and provide cable internet services at a MUCH faster rate than which FPB can ascertain ATM. It is down right PITIFUL that FPB is scared to lease out their lines for outside competition. BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEY WOULD LOOSE CLIENTS. I would personally love to pay for 10.0 or a 20.0 MB internet connection service for the SAME price I pay for a measly 4 mb I get right now. Their customer support is down right Hill-billyish. They have 5 steps to provide you and if your problem isn't covered by that 5 step process your screwed. You can NVR talk to a engineer or Advance tech. support like with other Service providers. They have rbanched out to reach more people than they anticipated to serve properly.... and by that I mean, THEY CAN NOT PROVIDE DECENT SERVICE, because they wayyyy under estimated the work payload that would be required to run this small frankfort town... which really isn't that small to them trying to 'provide' that service. its like a local computer shop trying to go Global... you just dont have the emans to supply your customers with the satisfaction they are paying for. But yet, when it coems down to it.. what can you do??/ Oh I know.. I could buy crappy satellite service that receives interference every time a thick cloud cover passes by or an approaching storm knocks out the line of sight! Having internet on a satellite connection just absolutely makes no sense, unless your using Military grade equipment.. and trust me, Direct TV does not offer military grade equipment. Even IF they did, the average consumer would NOT being able to pay for it. So I guess that leaves that one out! And here we are, stuck with FPB and their AWESOME services..... Pifff I'm waiting for someone to crack their IRD and show 'em whats up :)
As long as the community board of action has heads inside FPB, it will ALWAYS be a monopoly. And I find this downright scary for it to be going on this long!

If Frankfortians started a petition for outside services to be rendered or to be brought here they WOULD do it... lets say if the petition and 20,000 + people signed up and committed to pay for that companys service, they would spend the money to bring US those services. Its jsut a matter of the people and what they want... most of frankfort is ignorant on this subject, or it's just.. "over their heads' or just don't care cause they think the quality of service they are receiving is adequate. From my life being spent in Frankfort, I'd say.... 7/10 people here could not distinguish the difference in their internet speeds if they had it upgraded. I've personally worked on people computers and their cable lines to try and diagnose the problems... and the problems lie within FPB servers.. I had one guy paying for 2MB internet service from FPB, and for 4 YEARS!!!! He was running at 256k!!!!!! So for 4 years he payed for 4 MB service and was only receiving 256k Speeds.... I was just grossed out.. and ALL IT WAS is an update server side for FPB to change a simple treebox from 256k, to 4 MB... and as soon as I got off the phone with FPB that day he could then download a song in Limewire in under 20 seconds... verses him waiting 7-9 minutes for ONE song!!! hahahaha

its just pathetic and there wasn't ANY compensation giving besides a months worth of time credited...and this occurred for 4 year mind you. Their time will come..
