The Franklin County Sheriff said Friday night that an officer was hit by a car as the driver, who the officer suspected of DUI, fled the traffic stop. Now there is a widespread manhunt for the driver.

Early this evening, a convoy of Lexington Police cruisers headed west on I-64 to assist. A Lexington police helicopter was also called in to help in the search.

Authorities say after the driver fled the scene, he ditched the car near Shenkel Lane at the Colonial Trace Mobile Home park.

The injured officer was taken to Frankfort Regional Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

LEX 18 will have more details as they become available.

Why in the world would Pat call Lexington metro Yo assist. Last time I checked it was Franklin County not Fayette County. Pat afraid to call the city or state police to help assist???? They might catch the guy. Something just doesn't sound right about this!!!

Whomever this ignorant person is...wants us to get irritated and post back so he can keep coming back with more crap. His comments are so rude, thoughtless and uncaring that I no longer justify them with a response. When I see who the post is from, I just overlook and go to the next.

I hope they catch him or her and hope the officer is doing well. Really don't understand why people hate police so much. They are just doing their job protecting the community the only reason people who dislike them is bc they obviously do illegal things to hide from them. It's crazy.. Think of what kind of place we would live in if there were no police officers & laws.. Rapists murders robbers would be free and inncocent victims wouldn't get justice.

Lexington has a helicopter! They need that for the search. And this has NOTHING to do with County. It is a City issue

"bull" I know pat melton and he is a very good guy nice kind person and obviously you hate law enforcment bc you obviously can't live by the law.. People like you make this down dangerous for our children.. Police officers do their jobs and think of how bad this place would be if they weren't around.. People like you would be robbing people murderers rapists child molesters and people selling children drugs.. Innocent victims wouldn't receive justice! People like you disgust me they should be locked up and forgotten about!
