Tell your friend not to worry. The baby will be retarded and the tax payer will pay to raise it.

If you are going to do any drug including alcohol, while pregnant..You do not deserve to be a parent and your child should be taken. If you're doing it while pregnant, you will not stop afterwards and that child deserves a sober person to care for it! Give your child a chance! If you can't stay clean, give the baby to someone who can!

Babies are not drug tested unless there is reasonable suspicion that the baby will have illegal drugs in their systems. Are you or your friend willing to take that chance? If the baby is positive for illegal drugs, they aren't normally removed from the mother, although CPS will become a very permanent part of your life for quite some time. Not real cool to do that to a baby!

Yes every baby and placenta is tested. No reasonable doubt is needed, it is protocol nowadays. Unfortunately we live in a society where there are too many women that are good at hiding their addictions, so for that reason the testing must be done. My best advice for your friend is to quit now, there has been no true research done that can suggest that marijuana is neither harmful or not to an unborn fetus. To be on the safe side..QUIT! Is that high really worth the risk of her unborn child's health? I think not, and if she thinks otherwise maybe she should reconsider being a parent.

I am not sure it is standard procedure at all hospitals, perhaps only some of them. Either way, not a real bright idea to continue!

Well you may be right Julie. I'm not sure every hospital follows that protocol but I know the 3 hospitals I have worked at all do the testing to both baby and placenta at birth. Bottom line is if they don't, they probably should!! It's not fair to these babies having to DT from drugs that mommy couldn't give up for them! More than likely if she couldn't quit while pregnant she will continue to do drugs once baby is home! It's sickening really, I've seen so many mothers suffer who did everything right, only to have their sweet children be born premature, and sometimes even pass. All the while there are women out here on drugs having 2 babies a year, that for the most part are born on time and get to go home with these psychos!

So not true it is amazing how people get online and talk about things they have no idea about. None of the 50 states have a mandatory testing policy. Each hospital sets their own things that they look for to decide weather to test for drugs, and ofcoose they test the obviuos cases so they know what was used and how to treat the newborn. Not to mention that the ob-gyn can test the mother at anytime if there is any hint that the mother may be using

As she stated, the three hospitals that she has worked for tested. She did not say every hospital. It's sad that this question even got asked. There are people who are a disgrace to society and the original poster's friend is one. There is no reason I can think of as to why a person can't stop smoking weed while they have a human being growing inside them.

There was no claim of mandatory testing.

They do test the baby's first bowel movement and placenta for sure at Frankfort regional medical center. If it is marijuana and only marijuana then social services get called. Slap you on the wrist and tell you you should know better. Whatbifbthe only way you canbeat is to use marijuana and you puke all day if you dont smoke? Ibhave three kids smoked with all three thebcigarettes are full of harmful chemicals. Weed does not have any ofbthose poisons. The smoke is the most dangerous part. You can not consume enough marijuana to die in strict medical terms. Also there are no conclusive studies saying either way if it harms a fetus. But I can tell you that it can help with nausea and lack of appetite. All medicines have side effects some are worse than weed could ever do. What isbthe real poison. I think women that shoot up or eat pills snort coke should be arrested these things are proven to cause defects. Pot should not be the issue go drink your beer and lay off of pot

Well I don't know what county you live in but I'm the mother of a thirty-five year old addict. Six babies and 18 years later she still is. I have been the one responsible for having four taken away and helped with the fifth and tried with the sixth. Babies are a gift from God that needs a clean, sober loving mother and father. The deserve it they didn't ask to be born if you are going to lay with drugs and men I guess they just don't meet the requirements of a mommy. If they had the main ingredient (love ) for a mother it would be don't have them if you love your drugs more than your child it breaks my heart. But to hear these people talk they are better parents on drugs than off. What kind of reasoning is that? Drugged up I'd say
