Beth Wallace is a 19 year old former employee of Franklin County Humane Society. On July 4th, 2012, Beth was critically injured in an automobile accident. She was in the intensive care unit at University of Kentucky hospitl for two days following the accident, then moved to a room in the hospital, then after 4 days she was released.

She suffered multiple injuries, but was very lucky to come away from the accident alive. Her arm is broken in two places, her pelvis bone is broken, and she has multiple lacerations and bruises. Her car was totalled, with the passenger side car being wrapped around a tree. She was removed from the vehicle by the jaws of life.

Beth never received one call, not one well wish, not one ounce of care or concern from her employers, Franklin County Humane Society. On Friday, July 13th, Sam Marcus, board president, shows up at her house while she was still recooperating in a hospital bed to inform her that her position with the Humane Society was terminated because they could not leave her position open while she recovered.

On Saturday, July 14th, Franklin County Humane Society had this posted on their Facebook page "HELP WANTED! One of our FCHS staff had to unexpectedly take time off, and we are in desperate need of some help answering the phone. If you are willing to come to the shelter and do phone duty for a few hours, anytime from 11:30 to 5:00 and any day over the next few weeks, we would really appreciate your help! Please email [email protected] if you're available - thank you so much in advance!!!"

Then after being questioned about Beth's termination, removed the post and followed up with this statement "Everyone, I am sorry - I posted incorrect information in a previous post about our personnel situation and need for volunteers at the shelter. I was not up-to-date about that situation, and I apologize.---D'Arcy"

If this "Humane" society cannot treat their employees humanely, and with respect, how exactly are they treating the animals that are in their care.

I would like to see this entire board reprimanded, and Ms. Wallace compensated for them adding insult to injury. She has NO reprimands, and has only missed one days work prior to this accident in 8 months of employment.

The board at FCHS are cold hearted not only to the animals, But also humans-This 19 year old girl that worked there was let go due to her injuries she recieved in a tragic car accident, Sam Marcus came to her house just a few days out of the hospital to inform her that she was terminated. Now I ask you-If they treat a human being like that,Can you just think what the poor animals have in store for them. The new director is a(WITCH)and she is ready at the drop of a hat to kill an animal with a smile on her face. Please dont take my word on this-Come and see for yourself and you decide.

Yes it did..Please go to the shelter and see for yourself. Ask questions and see how they respond. They wont look you in the eye. I wish the state journal or 18 news would do a story on this to let the public know just what kind of people are in charge of the FCHS. If they treat a person this way-Then an animal dont stand a chance there.Beth cared for each and every animal that came in the door, and I think that they wanted her out of the way because she has feelings towards the animals and didnt fit into their click.

She should contact LEX 18...they are very friendly and might consider doing a story on this. Look up their e-mail addresses on their website. My daughter contacted them about an attempted robbery at her house and they came and did a story for her that actually helped catch the criminals. Good Luck! Please keep this post updated.

You can bet I have already alerted LEX18, WKYT, the State Journal and any other avenues I can think of. Thanks everyone. Please keep this young adult in your prayers, she is still recovering, now from two life altering situations.

I could see if she had done something wrong maybe to let her go, But to terminate someone over a car accident come on now. The state of KY. does nothing to an employer for such actions. We need to take a stand on this issue-Because it could have been any of us in a car accident. I know Beth will forgive them-But she wont be able to forget the animals she has to leave at the mercy of those killers. We can all learn a lesson from Beths situation.

Why In the world could they be low to do this to a person that was just a real bad wreck? If it was them how would they feel! They must have low class people there. I'm glad I don't have to go there and "YES" I will spread the word.

The real kicker in this-Is that Sam Marcus and Ron Moore call themselves christians..I would question someone like these people because, this doesnt seem like an act of a christian. talk about kicking someone when there down. They should be ashamed of themselves. When karma catches up with them maybe they will think about what they do.

Was she a PAID employee or volunteer?
I am currently unemployed and would love to volunteer to help the animals....but I think the reality of the way they operate would dishearten me pretty quick.

1.) FCHS is first and foremost a BUSINESS. As sorry as I am to hear this happened they have no obligation to ANY employee to keep their job open if it creates problems with the day to day operations.
2.) Kentucky is an "at will" employment state- you can be terminated at any time for any, or no, reason. To say she was wrongfully terminated is misleading.
3.) Since Beth had no worked there for 12 months or longer the FCHS was not obligated to hold her job for her under FMLA; so again her termination was not wrongful...it was just heartless.
4.) I agree the FCHS could have shown more compassion for "one of their own" during such a difficult time in her life; but sadly business is business and feelings don;t often come into play in these kinds of situations.
Having said all that I wish Beth a speedy recovery and will keep her in my prayers- perhaps she could find a job as a vet tech here in town? It sounds like she has a genuine love for animals and that would make her an asset to any Vet!

Watch Channel 18 news tonight and watch Sam Marcus lie again. He called Beth this evening and told her it was because she wasn't doing her job. BULLSHIT...She just got a raise, and where are her reprimands???

Beth I hope that knife wound in your back heals very quickly-along with your other wounds from the car wreck. They are a wicked bunch of losers the way they did you. I hope you know you have a big support group behind you.

I can't believe the way this board conducts themselves and the business of the Society. Pathetic.

I wish Ms. Wallace a speedy recovery.
