Greetings,
To give you a basic idea of who I am and what I'm doing I am a history journalist and retail researcher. What does this mean? Well mainly it means I study history and behavior patterns of people in the area of retail. Working in Frankfort has so far been a pleasure to me. But when leaving the Big Lots one day I noticed the surrounding stores and the whole shopping plaza. I began to look at each one and drive through the parking lot seeing so many vacant spaces. It occurred to me Century Plaza is a dead-plaza filled with labelscars, decaying buildings, graffiti, and reclaiming nature all over. I have written articles on retail abandonment and decline on several websites such as DeadMalls.com as well as made and maintained many wikipedia articles on certain buildings for historical purposes. Currently I'm working on an article for the retail history website Labelscar.com with a special interest in Century Plaza.

So why am I posting this discussion?
Well I need some help working on this article from the community members of this lovely town.
For one, If anyone has old pictures of the shopping center please link me to them (you will be credited if you like).

Also, I need some questions answered if anyone can give me more information about the plaza's past such as what stores used to be there. I am well aware that WalMart and A&P used to be here but I have no further information such as when they opened, how long they were there, and so on.

If you can supply me with any information at all about the shopping center at all it will be much appreciated and you will indeed be credited in my article if you would like to be. I will give everyone a link to the article after it has been posted on the site.

Thank You :)

There was a Tractor Supply there. Curtis Mathis was there. I remember my mom buying a swivel floor model tv there years ago.

I miss Price Beaters Furniture. I think that was the last business located in the larege store on the end near the hotel. I bought a bunch of stuff about 8 years ago. A couple of years after that, they moved to Lawrenceburg. Then, I think they closed altogether. They really did have good prices.

tractor supplly was in the large building, it was there about two years. Curtis Mathis was in a building that was torn down to build the new parts store, Auto Zone it was originally a Pizza Inn. A bar called Beans was in one of the smaller stores between Big lots and the Dollar Store. It chagned to PJs and some other name before it moved and became what is now Cooter Browns.

From my understanding the owners of the shopping center live out of state - New York?- I believe. Walmart used to be called Big K and there was a grocery store on the far end close to 127. Don't really remember A&P or Pic Pac being there.
When Big K became Walmart they moved and at some point a state agency moved in. There were continuous complaints in regards to maintenance especially leaking roofs that caused many businesses to leave. A coupla years ago there was rumor that Save - A - Lot would go there. Someone from the company attended a city commission meeting about signage. Neighbors behind Century Plaza continually complain about trash across the back of the property. Probably the only businesses that really thrive there are Thai Smile, Big Lots and the Dollar Store.

I think this is a neat idea, what you are doing.
I am not from Frankfort, but go there often.
I do remember a clothing store, I believe it was spelled Behrs? it was sort of in the area of where Dollar General is now.
There was also a pet shop, but I dont remember the name, I believe it was beside the Rite aid maybe? right beside Big K or whatever store it was at that time.
I do remember a grocery store being there but cant remember the name, it was where Big lots is now. I want to say Food was in the name like Foodland? Foodtown? or maybe I am way wrong.
I do remember pizza inn, then it was empty for many years and Curtis Mathis went in.
Oh and obviously out in the middle was a little photo place. For some reason I want to say it was called Photo bug? I sure miss those little types of places!!

It wasn't a Tractor Supply. It was called Farm & Country. They are similar stores but different companys I believe.

Is the bingo hall still open or did it shut down? It's always looked abandoned since I moved here in 2006.

I think it moved because of the leaky roof too. I don't think repair work is a high priority of the owners. During one winter hardly any of the lights were on in the parking lot. I said something to a clerk in Big Lots and was told that they had reported it and didn't like the darkness either since they were open late.

There was a gym there also at one time. I think it was close to the Big Lots. I used to there and work out.

Bingo has been abandoned for a long time. I drove passed it and the whole building is completely empty aside from one little light around the time it gets dark. Can you guys give me a few approximate dates like year wise? Also I noticed that 'Century Plaza' labelscar on one of the old buildings. Was that lit at one time? or was that just painted and is now fading. Thank you guys for verifying about the Farm store. I remember driving by that building and looking into those windows and seeing a ton of decaying ceiling tiles within a cart that said "Farm and Country". Please keep giving me information and if you have any photos whatsoever please by all means let me know. I would like to use them in the article.

in 1975 when my family moved to Frankfort from Covington, the large retail space directly ahead as you come in, was occupied by the "Big K" retail store...After they left, that space was occupied by Frankfort's first Wal-Mart store. It's currently in its third Frankfort location at the super center.
After Wal-Mart left, it was occupied by the "CT Farm and Country store,(not Tractor Supply)...Shoppers Village Supermarket first occupied the space that Big Lots now occupies.
There was a Pizza Inn Restaurant where the Auto Zone now sits. After Pizza Inn went under, it was a Curtis Mathes TV store for a few years, then a tax service occupied it.
Begley Drug Store once occupied space to the right of the large vacant retail space (formerly Big K, Wal Mart, etc.) and after that Rite Aid (after buying out Begley's) resided there for awhile.
At one time, the space to the right of the former Begley Drugs, in the 1970's a shoe store operated there. After that a pet store and then a Bingo Hall was there for years...
The old Jubilee Dragon (before they constructed the building where Rio Grande is now) occupied the space now held by the Thai Smile restaurant.
Red Dot Liquors has been there as long as I can remember. Where the Panda Buffet is now, was originally a "Western Sizzlin'" Steakhouse that operated there...Bella Pizza (near the Days Inn) which is now out of business was originally a Taco Tico restaurant...A Cajun Restaurant was once in the building until the Bella Pizza folks bought the building...Hope this helps....

The photo place sat where the Commonwealth Credit Union ATM sits. It was right in the front as you drove into the plaza...
