How do they find these coaches? Who hires or selects coaches for the middle school and highschool sports? Is there some kind of selection process or is it all about who you know?
There is a process they apply and are selected by the school. Whatever the process it seemed to work this year. Teams are winning games, player attitude is good, minimal discipline problems (with the kids, wish parents would do as well). I think this coaching staff has the team on the right track. Keep them together and WHHS football future will be a lot brighter. Good job coaches!

They have won 1 game. Wait until the end of the year then you can rejoice. If the coaches are so good why aren't all players getting in the game. Daddy coaches never work. Parents who coach are ones that are trying to relive their childhood through their kids. Let them ALL play coach and don't let the name of the parent affect your decisions. I liked last years coach and I like Gearhart but he will be one and done with Hawkins taking over. Glad my kid will be moving on.....

You are either confused or misinformed. The team (A) that has won 1 game doesn't have a player whose parent is a coach, they lost in over time last week after playing a hard fought game and could have pulled it out. The B team has won 2 games and went into a double overtime that could have easily gone their way. Not sure why you think Gearhart is one and done, he is doing an outstanding job and seems to know the game he not only coaches he stresses academics, has instilled discipline and is working to build character.. Kids getting into the game has more to do with their ability to play than the coaches ability to coach! This isn't city league ball best players play others should to work to improve and take the position when they deserve it.

You just made my point. You know nothing about football. However, you can get on this forum and suppose how coaches are hired.
Most people who complain, know little about the sport.

I agree with the last comment! Middle school is just like High school not every player is going to get on the field you must earn your position. I think the coaches are doing a great job and my son has a new attitude about the game and has came a long way. Keep up the good work players and coaches

Coach Hawkins is the greatest football coach around. He's the reason that Bondurant has gotten better this year.

If the BMS coach was so great why didn't they keep him at EMS? You'll see which is better once they play each other.

Yes! Because of these two facts:

1. Good coaches never leave their current position. If they were good, why would they leave? Duh.
2. It doesn't really matter which team has the better players, the outcome of the game depends solely on the coach.

Thanks for your insightful commentary, "Next."

Agree!! That's one of the biggest problems with the west side football teams. The damn parents!! Why isn't little Johnny getting to play?? If little Johnny doesn't put in the work and heart it takes, he's not going to play. Parents have these boys lookin' like wimps, which is really sad! No, not all of them, I do know some parents that are doing the right thing, but I'm sure that most will agree that the parents is what the problems are from the FYFL on up to high school! Cracks me up to see the parents bitch and moan about their kid not getting to play or their kid not getting to play the position they WANT them to play! And, 9 out of 10 times, the kid doesn't even WANT to play, but is trying to please the parents. Sad really.. I know Hawkins and the BMS coaches are doing a great job with these boys. Good luck to them! Hoping they can pave the way for some better things for the West side for the next few years!

Dude. Face it. Your son's a lineman, he's always going to be a lineman. There's nothing wrong with it. Just deal.

Usually the coaches kids are the quarterback because they're the smarter kids on the team. This may have something to do with the fact that if a dad is going to take such an interest in a sport their kid plays that he volunteers to coach instead of standing on the sideline complaining about the coach. Take an interest in your child or shut up.

VERY TRUE!! But, I honestly can't think of one team that the coaches kid is the QB.. I know we had a team last year that the son was the QB, but he was the best one of the bunch, bottom line..
