"]How come none of you c0omplain about the City police and their 63 officers, 63 police cars, new $15 million dollar building? your obvious hatred of the sheriff's office shows. They have changed the way law enforcement operates in this town or do you think drug dealers just magically appeared when Pat took office. They have operated in theis county for 10 or 20 years. Not now though. Many are in jail or have moved out of our county. I would assume many of these posts are from County residents who elect County officials and have no vote on city officials. However yes you are right city has wasted money as well especially the building you mentioned. But just look at the new AOC Franklin County Court House with no room for the Sheriff. It was not needed and will cost Franklin County taxpayer money now and in the future.

Many of the drug dealers were indeed arrested by a member of the Sheriff's Office, are they going to get convictions now that the arresting officer is in trouble himself? If you use the tactics of the crook then you are no better than the crook.

This is why Ted Collins is the right person for the job. He is not afraid to say no if there is not a fruitless need for it. The sheriff just wants to hire more retired police officers, and buy more toys for them. Ted will always have my vote. he showed me he will not be intimidated.

Smokey Bear hey, im remembering the article that said none of the new courthouses built by AOC and paid for by those county residents have room for their local sheriff. Melton would have been the first one to move in. Problem was it was going to cost the taxpayers $10,000 per month to "rent" the space. He said no as did two of the three Sheriff Building committee member did. Pat nor any sheriff member is on the committee to find their own building. We now have a $15million public safety building and a $31million courthouse. And city residents have to pay for both. Ted doesn;t care, any way he can F$ck with Melton he is going to so it.

Pat also forgets that Ted Collins was also a sheriff for two terms, and he know what it takes to run that Dept. Ted is a very sharp man, so please don't try and pull the wool over his eyes. Pat wants to hire some old worn out retired cops or cronies from other Depts. and supply them with new cars to take home, shopping, and other personal errands. I want to thank you Ted on behalf of all responsible county residents for standing up and doing the right thing in this matter. And as you know there are always be haters out there to undermind you and our magistrates.

Ok, here is where I have a problem. Pat has bragged from here to Florida about all the drug money he gets to keep & what all he is buying from it. he bragged about the trucks & cars he has confiscated & instead of tricking one up to say DONATED BY YOUR LOCAL DRUG DEALER, sell them & return the money to the operating budgets.
We don't need all those old fogies sitting in chairs at the courthouse all day long in uniforms & packing guns to have cruisers to drive back & forth.
It is ok to use your own car to drive to work folks, I've done it for thirty three years. It is what everybody else does & expected of them. Why is it because you work for government, they expect cars to be furnished for them to get to & from work? What next, do they want us to pay for their homes? after all they working for us!
We all hear & read about all the arrests but what you will not hear & read about is ALL THE DISMISSED CHARGES over bad & shoddy work from un-qualified political appointees like Matt Brown.
Pat has known how Matt roles & has turned a blind eye to him until he was caught stealing from him & taxpayers. The citizens has no recourse to stop a corrupt cop because they all the brotherhood will look after eachother & get their cronies to do bogus investigations that will of course find no wrongdoings. Pat has made sure his friend got away without being charge for rape. He has made sure his corrupt deputies get away with violating peoples guaranteed constitutional rights.
Pat has abused the system so much that citizens has lost confidence in the job. Judges & prosecutors has forced Pat to give cars back to owners that they had no business taking. When a search warrant is done, TRAINED PROFESSIONALS ought to be doing it & know how to read the [email protected] warrant when it comes to items that are PERMITTED TO BE TAKEN! Don't run to the garage & hook up a persons expensive car to sell for your own use if it isn't on the warrant. It would EMBARRASS MOST OFFICIALS if they were constantly being told to give stuff back & behind doors talk about straighten out you crew & get them up to par in police procedures.
Pat rode the coat tails of popular local politicians in the last election & they all now are in disgust with how Pat is acting & cutting them in the back and lying to them. What Pat has forgotten because of his ego is A HELL OF A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOWS HOW HE REALLY IS! The wasting & corruption has finally caught up with Pat.

Because they are REAL police officers. The SO is always comparing itself to our City and State officers. If our sheriff and his deputies were to be held to the same high standards as our City and State officers, most could not meet the physical requirements, much less the knowledge requirements. The sheriff himself couldn't even pass the Sargeant's exam when he was in Versailles and now he acts like he is some kind of Buford Pusser. He's actually not even a Buford T. Justice. And then there is "Junior" Blanton who is making twice what some of the deputies are making while he sits in the office on his arse playing on the computer and having our comments deleted. If I were a deputy, I'd be ticked.

In these times when we are all having to tighten our belts, I think the SO cars should be left at the SO after each shift for the next shift. Most of them hang around within the city limits anyway.

The Sheriff’s Office uses that (one) vehicle instead of buying a new one. The resale value for that vehicle is nothing compared to having to buy one.

“We don't need all those old fogies sitting in chairs at the courthouse all day long in uniforms & packing guns to have cruisers to drive back & forth.”

Those old fogies as you put it are paid for by the Judicial Court and do not have take home cruisers. They do drive pool vehicles to take prisoners back and forth from the jail.

“Why is it because you work for government, they expect cars to be furnished for them to get to & from work? What next, do they want us to pay for their homes? after all they working for us!”

Because when they are driving vehicles off duty it provides an additional law enforcement presence on the street. In addition, when they are driving those vehicles they are required to stop render aid and enforce the law as if they were on duty. It is often referred to as a force multiplier. The benefit has been shown to far outweigh the additional cost.

“We all hear & read about all the arrests but what you will not hear & read about is ALL THE DISMISSED CHARGES over bad & shoddy work from un-qualified political appointees like Matt Brown.”

Please show where that has been the case. Any reference to an authoritive source would be nice. Matt Brown was hired by Ted Collins by the way.

“Pat has known how Matt roles & has turned a blind eye to him until he was caught stealing from him & taxpayers. The citizens has no recourse to stop a corrupt cop because they all the brotherhood will look after eachother & get their cronies to do bogus investigations that will of course find no wrongdoings. Pat has made sure his friend got away without being charge for rape. He has made sure his corrupt deputies get away with violating peoples guaranteed constitutional rights.”

Please show where that has been the case. Any reference to an authoritive source? I believe you will find that Sheriff Melton turned the investigation over to the State Police. Doesn't sound like much of a cover up.

In general you have shown a complete ignorance on how the Sheriff's Office works and have included unsupported accusation and unsubstantiated rumor as fact. In future, please do your homework. Given your post, something you failed to do in school.

All law enforcement officers are required to take a minimum fitness test when they go to their respective academies. Very few law enforcement agencies require a minimum fitness standard once the officer is out of the academy. Franklin County government has started a fitness program for all employees. To my knowledge, the majority of the Deputies participate in that program.

The Sheriff passed his fitness test for duty. Its called an election. As to Mr. Blanton, he is not paid anywhere near twice what the Deputies are paid. In fact some of the deputies make more that Mr. Blanton.

Check your facts at the door.

Ted's idea of law enforcement was keeping Frisch's safe from robbery and keeping his chair warm when he wasn't at his cabin. All the time letting the drug dealers take over Franklin County. While I don't agree with everything Sheriff Melton does and he is in the news far to often for my taste, at least he appears to be making a difference in the county.

Mr. or Ms. Ignorance,

You must stop quoting the “press release” and tell the “untold story”.

Pat was wanting to keep the incident private and out of the public eye.

There was someone else in the office that would no go along with the scheme to hide everything.

The reason people are leaving the Sheriff Office is low moral. There are people that have been working there for close to 20 years. Then they bring in someone like Matt Brown's dad and pay him more, even though he has very little experience. Yeah that's going to go over well. Rules and regulations apply to some employees but not all, unless you are in Pat's inner circle.

The fiscal court should make Pat cut out the waste in his own office first. Then make sure pay increases go to the employees with seniority, not political new hires.

The pay equity scheme that is part of the Sheriff's new budget is aimed at the bring the lowest Deputies on the same pay level are surrounding agencies.
