This morning i saw a bug in my bed and i'm pretty sure it was a bed bug. Looks like it was in stage 4 of its life cycle. How do i know what it was? What should i do if it is a bed bug?

looks like a flat lady bug, after you kill it itll have a stink on your finger that will slightly make you gag like of a stink bugs, heat above 100 will kill them or tempatures below 32. steam cleaning and rubbing alchol and vacumming only destroys a lil bit of population you can see. start check newspapers and clothes coming in from out side.

Ok thank u! I didnt squash it. I put it in the bathroom sink and ran hot water over it. I looked it up online. I'm pretty sure it was a bed bug, but it looked slightly different from the photo online. Will i have to throw out my furniture?

Thats a good idea. I've only seen the one, but that probably means there are others hiding. I'm very clean and havent brought in any furniture or anything recently. I just dont know how it got in here. I'd say it most likely was a bedbug because i had an itchy bite mark on my wrist this morning.

You can drag it in with your purse. Don't put your purse on the ground anywhere.

Anyhow, strip the bed and check the mattress and box spring. If there are more, you can usually see it in the corners and around the stitching areas.

Could just have been a ladybug because I have seen several in the last few days.

Are you serious?? They can crawl inside my purse? Ok, I'm freaked out right now! But I do appreciate all the info. If they are in the mattress, do I throw it out or spray it?

Bed bugs are flat and clear there only brown looking if they have been feeding of you that's why if u squatch them blood comes out.there eggs r hard 2 find and stick every were.any furniture that can't be washed and dried id throw out cause they lay eggs down inside places in furniture WOOD that u can't reach with bed bug spray if u got carpet call a exsterminator it will cost thousands to get rid of them .and when your throwing furniture out it needs 2 b covered in plastic big furniture and lil stuff tied up in black bags.if u don't do this then your just taking a chance on allowing the bedbugs 2 fall off something u r carrying out and it will just run back in or go 2 some one else's house that's how they spread.there's no cheap way out.u can try and think there gone cause u don't c them but they lay dormet up 2 7 years. Good luck

I have hard wood floors. Should i use a steam mop? Also are landlords responsible if one of the other tenants in the apartment building had bed bugs a few months ago?

yes if you live in a apartment then its the landlords responsibility to call a exsterminator and pay for it.and the whole building has to be done cause if there not then they will just go from yours to the next one then adventually come back 2 u u probaby got them now cause ya landlord didn't take care of the other apt that had them .id turn him in call health dept.and who ever if he don't take care of this.id keep receipts on anything u buy and value of furniture lost any exspenses take him to small claims court.sue him for what u lost

Your landlord should handle the exterminator for you. Best thing is to keep the bug in a ziplock bag to show them. I moved and they came in from the uhaul truck! I caught on that I had some within 2 wks of moving in. My apt mgr was freaked out, she called and had exterminator here that day. They sprayed and then I got the mattress covers (you can buy at Walmart). Vacuum baseboards, they hide in cracks. Vacuum every day. I did this for 2 wks then the exterminator checked my apt and said it was clear of bugs. They are nasty bugs. The bites can take up to 2 wks to appear on you. Usually bites will be 2-4 in a line, not just one and may appear as tiny bumps first. If you have them, you will know at night. They will crawl on you even with some lights on. That's how I knew, caught it crawling up the front on me. They are attracted to CO2, when you breath they head straight for you!! Hope this helps!

Yes, everyone's info has been helpful. I did find the little creepers on my mattress. I threw it out. I was ready for a new bed anyway, so I will not charge the landlord for that. However, if I have to throw out my new leather couch, that will be another story! One on the tenants in my complex brought the bugs in. This tenant said an exterminator came out to do that one apartment. I guess that forced the bugs into other apartments, including mine, that were not treated. The landlord has now agreed to spray the entite building. However, one of the other tenants is refusing to have their apartment sprayed because they have no where to take their pets during treatment. I understand this, but if the entire building isn't treated, we are never going to fix the problem.

. That's correct if the whole building don't wt sorted the. U will not get rid of the bugs . Apparently those people must wanna keep them for pets . If I wha there landlord an they refuse to let me have the place spraye I would put them out cause if he sprays everywhere else an that one apartment is not sprayed then tere will be a bug proble again . So until he could do te whole building I wouldn't spray. I wish I luck .... U can clean ur couc just make sure u get Dow in the cracks and such an if u can get some plastic and cover it for serval days to smother tem out . I've heard there not real easy to fix and I have always heard its not a immediate fix as soon as they spray . U will still see one it two . But for precaution when u changes out bed covers and stuff spray down w alcohol it keeps the away .... And u ca spray down carpet couches and all . I have a habit to doing it just for precaution .

I will do that! It's so frustrating because I work hard at keeping my place clean, but all it takes is one tiny outlet for those creepers to sneak in. When I found them on my bed yesterday,(there were about 4 or 5 that I could see), I sprayed them with bleach. It was fun to watch them curl up and die. I hate the nasty little things. This has been a very bad experience for me. I'm mad, upset, sad and disgusted all at once.=(

If you found them in your bed, they are in the bedding, pillow, wall. If you get a new mattress immediately put on a plastic mattress cover that covers the entire mattress. Pull the bed away from the wall and look up online, there is a way to prevent them from climbing up the bed.

They are in other places, too, like the nightstand, closet...

This is so nasty. Good luck getting rid of them!

I washed all my bedding and pillows in hot water and dryed them in the dryer for 2 cycles. That much heat would have killed them.
