Yes he should. Pat cares about this community and want to make a better change for the office of Sheriff.

Everywhere Pat has been, he has left better than he arrived.

He created a small program in KYTC called Drive Smart and turned it into a Division. It is now the Office or Transportation Safety.

He initiated the child safety seat program. I always wonder how many babies are alive today because of what Pat and his staff have accomplished.

Pat care about only one thing and that is Pat. He'll put on a big fake smile and make everyone feel good, until he doesn't need them. Then he turns on them, at least until the next time they can benefit the Pat cause. Guess you could say he has leach-like qualities. By the way, why did he leave the Dept. of Transportation if he was so great? If he cares so much about the community of Franklin Co. why did he leave for Versailles? Surely he wouldn't leave if this community is so true to his heart, or was Sheriff Clark gonna make he do real work?

He left KYTC to work in law enforcement for Sheriff Ted Collins. Law enforcement is a laudable career if there is one.

Non merits tend to leave state government after a period of time.

Police officers transfer from one agency to another just like fireman do. Are you disparaging all that have done so?

Personal attacks didn't work against Ted Collins when Buddy Howard ran against him for Sheriff and attacking a person who works for the Versailles PD makes no sense.

Einstein defined people who do the same things over and over again as insane

I know Pat very well, as a friend, not a cop. He would make a great sheriff. Those of you who talk all this negative CRAP about him, dont know him and have very piss poor sources of info!!!

Wow Booyah you do know Pat. To answer Monica it is because I bet Pat has called some folks to vote on here.

I googled it and Pat went to the Police Academy in 2003 Class 323.??? I thought I read somewhere he has been in law enforcement for years.. If he was Deputy prior to that was he flying by the seat of his pants ??? Makes me wonder how he made cases if he hadn't been to school yet. Makes me glad I dont live in Franklin County where he was a detective?? with no training.. Scary..

Any citizen who chooses to serve their fellow citizens is an honorable person. If they choose to serve and risk their life every day, it is even more honorable. Fireman, Police, Sheriff and deputies should all be given extra respect.

Whether its Pat Melton, Chris Quire, Steve Clark, or Craig Conway, it doesn't matter. Each should be given our respect.

Other than military service, you couldn't choose a more honorable career than firefighter or law enforcement.

I applaud the two named individuals in these Topix threads.

I do glean one odd fact, there is not any mention of the current sitting Sheriff running again. Anyone know?

I also hear Teresa Barton might challenge Ted Collins. Anyone else hear different?

Pat Melton is rude. I had moved from Indiana to Kentucky and didn't have my drivers license changed in time. Honestly I didn't know, but understand I am not using ignorance of the law as my excuse.

We were driving back to Louisville from Versailles and he pulled me over and told me my Indiana license was expired or suspended. I have never received anything letting me know that this had happened, otherwise it would have been taken care of.

He proceded to tell me that he usually doesn't arrest someone for this but he didn't like my cavalier attitude. Understand, I have never been arrested before, nor charged with anything other than speeding in my life. No DUI, nothing, ever.

He arrested me and I spent the next 7 hours in jail all because he felt like I had a cavalier attitude. He even made it a point to tell my wife as I sat in the back of his cruiser that this was the reason why I was being arrested.

On the ride to the jail he continued to reiterate the fact that if I had been more friendly he would have let me off with a warning.

I was not rude to him. I have the utmost respect for officers who put themselves in harms way day in and day out. I just wanted to get my ticket and be on my way like everyone else that gets pulled over for speeding.

He may be a good friend, but as an officer he has a huge chip on his shoulder. I would hate to hear that he would be the next sheriff of our great capitol.

To aggravated motorist: You had to do something wrong, the police just can't lock you up for no reason. You stated your license was suspended he had two choices write you a ticket or arrest you. If you had an attitude I would've arrested you to! It sounds like sour grapes because you got caught. Moral of story treat others as you want to be treated.

Oh, Mr. I got stop by a cop and he was soooo wrong and all I did was break the law, please.Ok. Well sorry. Well to comment on the Negitive attacks on Pat, what can I say but get a clue. Who's this guy in there now, O yah Sheriff Clark and Cheif Deputy Greg, wait thats right Greg left the Sheriff's Office, What happen? They were running mates but after a year Greg left like Pat. To better themselfs? or because there might be something to that, who know's? Mabe Greg left the Sheriff Office because he felt that the sitting sheriff used him. But no, he's a good guy he would not do that right. Sounds like leach-like quqlities to me?

I am a former deputy with this department and worked with Pat and Chris. I also know Sheriff Clark very well. I have spoke with a couple of the guys that are still there about what they think. Coming from a couple of guys which seem to think the whole dept has the same opinion. They are very unhappy with Sheriff Clark. It seems they are backing Pat. I feel they know better than anyone and will go with them on this. I have worked with Pat and Chris and they are both great guys. Chris is alittle young and all though a great guy he's not the sharpes tool in the shed. I really dont want to be mean but I really could not see voting for Chris. Pat would make a great sheriff! he has my vote and what ever I could ever do for him I would. Pat took on alot of projects at the office that no one else would. I saw him bad mouthed by others then who cant wait to get him back now. Pat is a great guy and do huge things for FCSO. I dont want to bash Sheriff Clark but I have felt the sharp pain in my back several times. I'll leave with that.

I have had the opportunity to work with Pat in the past. He has always been there when we needed him. I think he would be a great sheriff and would do anything he could for his deputies unlike the current sheriff. He would definitely get my vote.

Pat has a lot of feedback he must have been busy turning around all the negative comments hugh?
I know that there is a lot of good and bad comments but im not sure any current Deputy wants Pat as there leader? He was always the golden child but its peacefull the "cops and robber" show is over since he left. Is he a native of this county?
