Alimony is fairly difficult to get. In most cases, if a couple marries and the husband & wife agree that the wife will stay home to raise the children, foregoing a career for herself over a number of years, alimony may be ordered. This would be one of the few circumstances in which alimony might be ordered. If you are a young woman, and it sounds like you are, your best bet is to try to obtain some money for an education during the divorce. There are also scholarships, grants, financial aid, and student loans! Lots of ways available for you to get it together to make sure you and your children have a decent future! Don't count on anyone to do it for you, with an education you will know that you can do it!

Well you will get child support on the two minor children, and it isnt called ALLIMONY any more ,it is called Maintenace,(How ever you spell it),YOu will only get that if your a stay at home Mom,or you make very little and he is the BREAD winner, now keep in mind that if you are the BREAD WINNER you may have to pay HIM. Whoever has the MINOR CHILDREN will be entitled to child support, they have a calculation how much it cost to raise that child for a month, and it will be split.

I didn't think KY had a "Alimony" law.

I believe these folks are correct. It is now called Maintenance Support, and it is still difficult to get. If a person, male or female, has devoted many years of their lives to staying at home and being the support person, and they have no formal education in which to go out and immediately begin earning money to support themselves...the Court will say that they are able to support themselves and do not requires Maintenance.

What about in Arkansas? I've been home since having to quit my job in May 2010...waiting on a disability decision. My husband has taken all of his earnings (he's a truck driver), and has every penny deposited in his personal checking account, taking all the bills on, and now I'm stuck with not knowing what's going to happen....our 3 year anniversary is in January, coming up....I have no access to any income, and want out....can I qualify for alimony?

Your children are going to pay the price for that divorce. They come first, then your maintenance, if something is left after that.
Yes you can hire a lawyer and he will have to pay that lawyer. You might be entitled to maintenance to some extend, if you did not mess around on your man, long term marriage, stopped college while you were pregnant, substantial amount in income ...... This is the judges call.. But this hard to receive and definetely req. the preperation by a lawyer. Your ex will go off when he hears that. Really, call a lawyer and ask for FREE legal advice, to get this started. You say that you can't afford a lawyer, but it is the other way around. You can not afford not to be presented by a lawyer. Expect the worst, If you don't have a lawyer. Stop talking to your ex. Stop seeking advice here. Call a lawyer for a free legal advice or pro bono.

I had a friend that stayed with her hubby for 20 yrs + 1 day. He got the house and she got half his stock in Lowes. You and the kids should be rewarded the amount they are use to living on. Call several lawyers, the court demands each lawyer in town do their free cases. Plus with kids, they should get what they are use to.
Good Luck.

You can only get temporary support in KY, and that's if you have a good lawyer. With temporary support, it's only awarded for a short time, I think the max is a year or until you get back on your feet whichever comes first. You have two choices really, get a job or get on your back. If you're in school you can get some government assistance but the way I see it, if you're not working and don't have a place to stay you're going to be living in section 8 housing within the before the end of the year.

And there shouldn't be. It's not a job. You shouldn't expect a severance package for quitting.
You should be entitled to half of anything you purchased together and that's it. Actually, if they didn't have a joint bank account and one partner had proof that they made all payments in full even though both names were on the loan, it shouldn't be divided 50/50. If my partner didn't work, I would take out loans in my name only.

. One thing you didn't say,is why he wants a divorce, did you do something to cause the way he feels. I am all for trying to work it out, divorce is hard on the kids but don't be one of those women that wants to take the man to the cleaners because you have done something to cause the divorce. No matter what I hope you 2 can work it out.

The only way I have of heard of the spouse receiving alimony is if you become disabled during the marriage. May I ask why would you want to be supported? If you are able to work why not work? Is he having an affair? If so, you can take the person he is seeing to court for breaking up a marriage.

In Frankiln County, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, me and me wife, that this county will not allow me to divorce, were marred for 3 years, She has Multiple Sclerosis and I hsave Multiple Myloma Bone Cnacer. This corrupt county's Domestic Relations Section granted my wife 900 in Alimony or Spousal Support. I have two kids 16 and 12 years old. The crooked Domestic Relations Section has granted her $1650 per month and are forcing me to send my kids to Catholic school. I am destitute, but national attention will be brought to this cubty because these men are killing these women down here because of this corrupt Domestic relations thing goung on down here. I've invited some media people to investigate what they are doing to the fathers down here infRANKLIN cOUNTY. tHEY ARE INSTITUTING THE DEATH PENALTY DOWN HERE FOR THE PROBLEMS THAT THEY ARE CAUSING DOWN HERE IN FRANKLIN COUNTY. FRNKLIN COUNTY CAN'T MAKE ME PAY ALIMONY FOREVER FOR 3 YEARS OF MARRIAGE AND CHILF SUPPORT CAN NOT LAST PAST THE KIDS 18 YEARS. NATYIONAL ATTENTION WILL BE BROUGHT TO WHAT THEY ARTE DOING IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA. CORRUPT LAWYERS, JUDGES, WOMEN IN NEED, DOMESTIC RELATIONS OFFICERS, AND STATE TROOPERS AND SHERRIFS.
