FYI: If you buy a $25 card from the "Angel Tree" at Kroger the family receives a $25 gift card with which THEY CAN BUY WHATEVER THEY CHOOSE INCLUDING CIGARETTES AND BEER!

Thats a lie. programs like these would never allow beer or cigarette purchases. All this poster is doing is harming people who needs the help by writing this rediculous crap!

Who cares if that can buy cigarettes and beer! It's a GIFT CARD... gift. As in for someone else, supposedly out of love and the goodness in your heart.-- unless they drink beer... Seriously??? If you are really that concerned about it, maybe you should check your heart.

It's for food dumbass! That's why I don't give to these type of programs because people abuse it. And people get on the trees that don't need to be.

I've personnally seen the abuse of the Salvation Army program...will not support it any longer. I know that sounds harsh, but it made me sick to my stomach to see ungrateful kids throwing stuff to the side because they didn't like it, not even waiting until Christmas to open the gifts. I;m not sure how the food program works, but sure hope it has limits on what can be purchase...

It makes me sick to think of someone taking help for recreational goods, when there are so many needing help with food in this economy. I'm sure anyone purchasing a gift card is thinking it's going to help a child out and not going for some low lifes party.

I believe this to be the truth. How could Kroger restrict the cards bought for the Salvation Army and not all cards? Only if SA had specific cards. If anyone questions this call Kroger and ask.

I signed my kids up for the Angel Tree program this year due to some personal circumstances that would have greatly limited their Christmas. I didn't qualify for the food program but both my boys received amazing gifts from the program. I am grateful to each and every individual that participates/volunteers their time/service/money to the program. Without them my little men would not have had Christmas this year. Someone truly made ours great and for that I am very Thankful!

I also had to use the Angel Tree program this year due to finicial hardships. It is a wonderful program. But yes both programs are being misused. the toys can be returned for gift cards. Which in turn some parents sale for drugs. And yes you can use the food cards for anything sold in the store. Gas, cigs, beer, anything. I hope that this doesn't stop people from helping these programs, just realize that not everyone receiving the help will use it the way it is intended for. If buying for a kid on the angel tree I suggest buying from stores that have strict return policies. Walmart returns anything without a reciept. If you don't have the reciept to kmart the must you can do is exchange it for something of equal value.

I know there are families that truly need the help, but those that sign up and abuse it while this year there were 600 kids that were left on the trees should be ashamed. One family received gifts for several of their kids and that allowed them to also buy them all Kindle Fires. REALLY...I work my butt off, don't ask for help and barely scrap by, my children don't have a Kindle Fire. The old saying,'one bad apple'. It's no wonder the fiscal cliff is looming...all the people in this country that shouldn't be, squirting out kids and it'a all on our dime...when I looked at the names on the trees, it was obvious that they were of foreign decent, let's help OUR own people. These people live the GOOD life here and we have our own living on the streets without food to eat. If they were sent back to their own country and not given free medical care and other public assistance we wouldn't have an issue with the fiscal cliff...their have been BILLIONS of dollars spent on them having their children here...now they get huge amounts of food stamps to feed them and they turn around and sell them. I'm so disgusted by it all...

I cannot believe this, if I spent my hard earned money on your child's angel tree gift and you want to return it not because the child did not like it, but because you wanted the money. I would only get gifts from Kmart or the best choice not participate at all. Not only is the SA ran by a homophobic bigot, but the recipients are ungrateful and are not trying hard enough to better themselves and their family.

Don't you feel like a complete ass for calling Me Too a liar? Obviously YOU were talking about something you knew NOTHING about. If you'll read posts by program recipients you'll see that Me Too knew EXACTLY what she/he was talking about.

I had financial hardships too this year. And I have a small child who still believes...

So I bought her used things from Monkey Doodles and a used game from Gamestop.

Meanwhile my office collected hundreds of dollars to give gifts to SA Family.

Everyone of those kids had a ” better” Christmas than my own.

Charity should not be about giving hundreds of dollars of new toys to unappreciative people, because that's not what Christmas is about.
