I heard that the State is going to really watch for personal computer abuse. Do not use your State computer for personal use!

Everyone in my general office area (state office) uses their state computer for personal use. We are NOT allowed to use our own PC's and not allowed to use our phones while at our desk. So, many do use state computers. But, I will add that in my office-all the higher ups get FREE State Journal newspapers and the Lexingon Hearld delivered to our Dept. and WE the taxpayers are paying for the papers. So, they sit and read the papers and we can't use the computer to check the weather or something? Want to save money? Tell the Gov's office to stop paying for the State to receive newspapers! EVERY office gets the paper! Not just ours! I ask around.
Good idea

Interesting. That could be why the local papers do not cover state government news! They are afraid the state will stop spending hundreds of dollars are their papers. This needs to stop NOW. Waste of money. Employees using state computers????????? Not right either.......

I am a retired state employee. Yes, my office recieved six copies of the State Journal and six copies of the Lexington Hearld along with six copies of the Courier Journal. The Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and directors recieved the papers and read......mostly the sports pages. Need to stop this! See how the papers then cover the state govenment news. I never had time to use my state issued computer for personal use. I am sure some employees do use their state computer for personal use......but what about the personal use of Blackberry's. When I left-I knew of 20 who had state issued phones! Why in the world do we have to pay for them to have a phone? This needs to stop too.

It's a good life. But I don't get a newspaper - I read it all on line. I can't stand that newspaper ink on my hands.

What are you talking about?? Uh no free newspapers lmao and maybe a free state phone provided you have a job that requires you to be contacted 24/7 yeah. So go ahead and apply and enjoy and remember the daily paper rates.

Yes. Free newspapers. Please visit Opendoor.ky.gov and search for yourself. Phones I agree there may be some employees that must be reached 24/7 but office workers? I can understand field staff for road depts. or emergency management. Really? You think tax payers should keep paying for these items? Come on! Would you not rather the money spent on subscriptions go towards schools?

Well, I guess if you can read it on-line I would too. I hate newspaper ink getting on my hands as much as the next person. But, I heard "they" were cracking down on personal internet usage.

I still want a job in State Government. I like to walk around downtown and it would be nice to get paid to walk around. I would not mind working either! And I would be polite to those I assisted. I would love to have a Blackberry phone and not pay for it! I would get rid of my cell phone in a minute.

I spend half my time in the office and half my time traveling the state and on location in the field. I am a lowly peon. I was FORCED to get a Blackberry. I have received several emails and phone calls while off sick, in the evenings, and on weekends that I was expected to handle immediately. I have received very harsh words from my managers and contacts when I have not been reachable and on the clock. Yet, the same people tell me not to answer emails and blackberry messenger while driving, and I am often sent places with no cell phone reception. Once an employer gives you a blackberry, they own a significant portion of your time, even if the employer is state government. If you still want that free phone, you can have mine but you get all the calls, emails, and messages with it.

Don't be expecting any raises except in the cost of your insurance. State doesn't give increments anymore.

Well.......not sure if I would want a phone....but I do know I would not answer the phone while driving nor would I retrieve messages while on personal time. No raises except in the cost of insurance..........guess I will continue to receive my unemployment check until things get better with the state. Compared to many local administrative jobs the pay is better and the benefits are better. Really! But, it does seem like many who work for the state are not happy. Being happy is important to me! Having a job that I want to go to means alot! How do you move up? I heard it is better to start in a lower position and move up and get 5% or 10% increases. Is this true?

I have one year and two months to until I have 30 years of service. I intend to retire on the first day I can. I have a state issued phone and am expected to answer the phone at all hours and do not get paid. My family is tired of the phone ringing non-stop and I am too. I recommend No Job to look at other jobs before applying for state govenment jobs.

I recommend No Job start looking for something soon because with new legislation, the free ride is coming to an abrupt end.

Not always! In my office, there are several people who can do some of the easier work. But, you would be quite lucky to find even 2 people who can do any of the difficult tasks. There are many tasks that only one person has the knowledge and/or training to do. In these cases, that person gains quite a bit of power, and they will rarely attempt to pass on their knowledge to other employees.

Please notify the White House that the “Private Sector” is not fine, and that being a winner and earning a good living is not a crime! Yea we spent a lot of money to win in Wisconsin, but it's was our money! We’re Americans and we’ll spend our money as we see fit. It wasn’t the poor mislead union employees money. It's too bad your cow is going dry, sorry about your luck! We’re going to get our government in-line with the private sector whether you like it or not! "We are not mean Americans we're only going to level the "paying" field!
