Ok i just left the dollar tree and the lady in front of me bought 6-7 halloween decorations and a 4 pack of suckers. When she went to pay with her food stamp card the cashier told her the register said "no eligible items" for the purchase. The customer proceeded (with an attitude) to say "didnt u ring up some suckers?". Then slammed down her food stamp card. The cashier fixed the situation.

First - i am sorry that my tax dollars cant support your suckers.
Second - im glad u could afford to buy halloween decorations.

Dont get me wrong - i support state funded programs when they are used for people who need a little help to get back on their feet (like food stamps and child-care assistance did for me to go back to school). That however does not excuse you to get an attitude over a dollar pack of suckers and be rude. If you can pay for those non-essential decorations then u can pay for a pack of suckers.

Thoughts?

Yeah, makes you wonder who the suckers are doesn't it!!!!!! I bet they aren't getting a furlough day every month. I bet they don't have to explain to their mortgage company why I didn't make as much this month, since they are on Section 8; why I can't get dental since I can't afford it, but they sit on their butts and they can have anything they want with the medicare card.....what the hell is wrong with this picture.......

got you beat, yesterday I was in a grocery store behind a lady who purchased a 12 pk pepsi, 12 pk mountain dew, 4 pizzas that came out of the deli 8.99 a piece and then some snack items all with food stamps, the friend with her asked when the game started. Oh and the beer was paid for in cash.

I get help with food stamps for my family, and I agree, it would not have hurt that lady to break out a dollar for the candy. Also, when i go to the grocery, I personally do not buy junk. I buy ingredients, and actually cook real meals for my family. I have 2 children, and yes I do buy things like popcicles and snacks for them, but I am responsible with the assistance. You won't catch me buying cases of pop, or deli pizzas. I try to make this money feed my family for the whole month, that is not the way to do it.

Slims u r smart. I don't get assistance but do not mind helping ppl that truely need it. My brother used to get it and he would still buy some off brand stuff and use coupons. I am glad u dnt abuse the system like so many ppl do.

There is a woman living at my apt. complex who lives with her mother. She pays no rent, just buys the food for the whole household and bragged that she was going to have another baby to get more money and food stamps.
She is pregnant now and it is my tax dollars buying this whole families food (even though her mom makes good money) and paying for medical care plus she gets a check in her bank account every month!

If they had money for beer they do not need my money for food!

I hate this site but I must chime in. I am a member of the coupon club, a Kroger Plus member, a bargain shopper to the tenth degree.... I do this to survive even with assistance. I understand you're aggavation. If you have a family and need assistance.... Forget the sparkling water honey...you are getting help, use it right.

Once again someone always tryin to tell someone how to spend their benefits. How do u know they are not payin taxes as well as u are. It is their benefits and can use it the way they want to use it not urs. Why don't u mind ur business and find somethin else to hate on. I do receive food stamps as well as other help, but I also pay taxes just as well as the next and yes I do use coupons to but if I want to buy junk food for my kids or buy them whatever they want like suckers or candy they get it. No body tells u how to spend ur check.. So stop tryin to run someone elses life.pure ignorant..;0)

You are the exact type of person who the govt needs to remove from assistance programs. Just because you pay taxes does not entitle you to free assistance from the govt. Why don't you give your children some self confidence and pride and remove yourself from govt assistance. Oh, but you probably wouldn't care about something like that because you deserve your free money.

I took my 74 year old mother, who draws approx. 900 in social security and never received any type of assistance before, to sign up for food stamps the other day. She now receives 16.00 dollars a month food stamps. What a joke! If it weren't for the fact she needs the help, I would have told me to stick them where the sun don't shine.

This is a sorry thing. The people who have worked hard and paid taxes, built our roads etc.. suffer because of the lazy scam artist out there.
Every one, EVERY ONE needs help now and then. No one who is physicly able to do something should be GIVEN money or food while they sit on their but.
As a civalized society we should help out those in need, but there has to be a need.
Disabled people and retired people are the ones who deserve benifits. If you work, but have a low paying job you deserve help. Those that want a free ride....not with my money.

I receive food stamp benefits and I think it is important to realize that the name says it all. These are BENEFITS. The money on my food stamp card is supposed to go to providing myself, my husband, and my child with a supplemental source of income for REAL food which will BENEFIT my family and our health. In my mind this does not, nor should it, include: sodas, twinkies, convenience items (deli pizzas, frozen dinners etc.)or other "junk" foods. In order to make the money stretch as far as possible each month I cook ALL our meals and we pack my son's lunch every day rather than adding him to the free lunch program (even though he is eligible.). If Michele Obama wants to make a difference in obesity then perhaps she should help to re-vamp the ENTIRE food stamp program? As long as those receiving FS are allowed to purchase whatever they desire there will not be anyone who gets healthier. And for the folks out there who will say eating healthy is too expensive? I feed a teenager, myself, my husband, AND our unborn child on less than $75.00 a week~ none of us have problems with our weight; and none of us goes hungry. Life is about choices. You either chose to do what is best for your family overall or you choose to take the path of least resistance. I think folks who abuse their benefits by feeding their families junk should have their benefits cut or eliminated. The FS program was not designed so that kids and/or adults could have suckers, pizza, candy, soda and gum. It was designed to keep the recipients healthy and ALIVE.

U r probably the fat ass doin' the junk food buying thats why it doesn't bother U, and if U have a job where U pay taxes then U shouldn't need FS assistance. Oh but I sure those 20 elevin kids U keep having make it to hard for U to afford what they "need" to be healthy..... Grow-up and quit acting like the world owes U everything cause Ur parents either taught U that or didn't bother to raise U with integrity. Breake the cycle dumbass don't keep adding to the problem!!!!!!!

As for you and your mother I'm very sorry the system does not work the way it should, I hope you check with churches and other programs about getting some help with keeping healthy foods in her cabinets.
