I'm sure they can be tracked no doubt but who cares whether a URL is tracked? An IP address is what matters. People are special lol. You think you know it all and yet you've made yourself sound like an idiot.

Don't you mean the "user's OpenID URL". That's how you technically say it. Check you facts.

I see there is no reply from "savy" or "I mean really".
To Savy, If you are using the word as your name to indicate you have expert knowledge in the subject we spoke about, you need to know you spelled savy wrong, The correct spelling "savvy". Savy is a commune group in France. I will not say you are the one who's special because that is bullying malicious term used to refer to a person who has a mental disability. That is very wrong.

To "I mean really"; I'm definitely not an idiot although the word idiot is another malicious MR term. Not cool. Finally,I am correct in my technical termology above.

No, you really aren't. URL is simply uniform resource locator. It's essentially an ID marker for DNS servers to index for quick accessing. An IP (internet Protocol) is an address like your P.O. Box addy or ect. This is where you 'communciate' from, which is given and enforced from your ISP (internet Service provider) AND only can you @ ISP level obtain encrypted information regarding ANYONE's accessing websites.

Of course that is if their computer isn't infected with malware, adaware or trogens/rootkits/rerouters ect. There are also things called 'crawlers', and they do nothing but crawl web servers and indexing matrix's for specific keywords, or like more advanced ones, they capture entire website snapshots (images, links, emails, ect) within the confines of that scan. This is exactly why you can type "Hogwash frankfort kentucky topix.com " and see every post from you posting into this site all while being listed in google.

YOU should really learn some basic shlt regarding TCP/IP connectivity before you try and pat urself on the back. I could give ya a website to visit and guarantee that ur norton's, avg, macafee, kaspersky.. none can detect the FUD's (Fully Un-Detectable) exploits working within the code. While more than just ur IP is being handed off to a log-file.

Your retort.

The IP address as well as the MAC address can be tracked (and are) but you do not have a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniform_resource...

Plenty of ways.

For the average user? You would be better off trying to steal someone's wallet. IP's aren't secretive, and they aren't by no means super rare, but if you don't dabble in those areas, then you will clearly give yourself a headache trying to "find someone's" IP.

Play MITM (man in the middle) Is usually a quite effective means of obtaining transmission protocol details, just got to know how to set the stuff up. To obtain an IP from a website like this, you have fewer choices. Since Topix.com regulates all the traffic from their servers.. forcing those servers to hand you over specific information would be a task nonetheless. It can be done however.

OR... you could go for a script kiddy tactic, and setup a reroute link, that in-turn would have you 'click' on a link that would 'send' you to one site, but really 'take' your information and present it to a log-file of ur choosing. Voila, IP, header info, DNS servers, TTL stamps, so on and so forth.

Nothing personal being captured yet, but with some more advanced coding, you could force a computer to enumerate basic services or process's running within your computer. If you supply accurate/personal identity info into ur computer, then with advanced coding/scanning techniques, all of that could be stolen as well. So be mindful entering in "who you are" into a computer that 'you think' is secure, because you bought and paid for nortons or kaspersky or something alike. Good day.
