It's not because of the druggies. All doctors know that if you take pain meds regarly for over four days ( somtime sooner ) you become dependant on them & if taken longer, you will develope a very strong addiction to them.
A lot of people fake pain just to get them & doctors know that!

If you are really not an addict, then try another measure for pain treatment, or you will regret the day that you started going to a pain clinic. I DID !!!

I have been on pain medicine several times for over four days and NEVER, NEVER got addicted. It's the individual person taking them. I also used them as PRESCRIBED to help with the pain. Most of the time when I was on them, I wouldn't even finish the entire prescription. I used them as needed for PAIN. It sucks that if there is someone out there that needs medicine for pain that doctors are now reluctant to help them because of the pill poppers. Innocent people are now being punished for the acts of others. I realize there are people out there that simply want pain pills to feed their addiction. Not everyone becomes addicted to them. Trust me, I would rather not take them. I don't like the way I feel on them.

If you are denied treatment because of the actions of a minority, I'd tell the Medical Board. I had a doctor I went to for checkups and if I got ill. He had some paperwork problems and other issues going on and when he got suspended, all the other doctors tried to treat me like trash. That didn't last long. Report them.

There are those out there that go to the Dr because they are in pain and feel that there is a problem that needs to be corrected. When they first go, they can't even stomach pain killers but that is all they are given for the pain, so they have to force themselves to taket he pain medication just so they can sleep at night. Nothing gets better so they go back to the Dr over a two year span and continuously get told that they have a "pulled muscel" and the pain pills keep coming. Then when the person in pain finally gets fed up with the run around that EVERY DOCTOR IN FRANKFORT GIVES EVERYONE, he goes to a specialist that he had to fight to see because his normal Dr wouldn't refer him, and is told that he could have been paralized had he made the wrong movement due to three slipped and cracked disks in his neck. He finally has surgery, takes the remainder of his pain meds, and then they cut him off. Suddenly he realizes, he's addicted. THAT is how the majoirty of these addictions to pain killers start in this damn town. Our Dr's are for SHIT! I do a better job diagnosing myself than these so called physcians do. It's time the Doctors are held accountable for THEIR actions just like the drug addicts are.

There are also those that simply begin to take pain medicines as well as other drugs because they think it is "the in thing" to do. At some point, the patient should take some initiative if he/she feels that their situation is not getting any better and seek a second opinion or ask for a referral. Perhaps the doctor shouldn't continue to prescribe the pain medicine over that amount of time, but if I were still in pain after that length of time, I would most definitely seek a second opinion way before I possibly had a chance of becoming addicted. Nobody knows yourself like you do. If you continually go in with the same chief complaint, the doctor will more than likely continue to try to treat what brought you in there in the first place. People have to be aggressive with their health. If something doesn't feel right or sound right, by all means find another doctor or ask for a referral. Doctors are human, too. They will make mistakes and quite often contrary to popular belief.

I have deteriorated disks in my neck and have arthritis through my spine and my family physician hasn't even offered to prescribe anything. Says I should just treat it with ibuprofen. Well, that worked for a few years, but now it has worsened. Needless to say after many years of his treating me for all my ailments, I'm looking for another physician. Does anyone have any suggestions about a physician who will seriously listen to and help a patient??
At some point

At some point, Ibuprophen is going to wear out your liver. I have been through spine surgery and i started out on ibuprophen and it finally wasnt enough, so I got on the pain meds. At some point the pain meds were not enough so I took more than perscribed. Eventually I was HOOKED and the doctors here let it happen.(CAUSED IT TO HAPPEN)... Then,,,My DOC left the state. GOT a new DOC,(NO DRUGS),Then had spine surgery and now I dont take PAIN meds. HEART problem, Kidney Problem and Liver problems now because of a few years of the Ibu's, Tabs and others but do yourself a favor and go to a GOOD clinic and get help befort its too LATE.

Make sure to have your MRI and other proof of the problem first. He will probably order his own to see if anything has changed and for authenticity. Also, be sure you can pass a urine test. Good luck.

Why are drug tests bull crap? He has to make sure you are:
a)taking your medication
b)it is not accumulating in your system due to renal failure, etc
c)you are not taking anything that will intensify or negate the effects which can be lethal ie taking a benzo from another doctor on top of the medication he may give you

He has to do them in order to treat you better and because it is a requirement for anesthesiologists when they run a pain management outfit.
