Here's a cut-and-paste of my SJ post.

----------

I contacted ADT and confirmed that Secure Watch is a legitimate contracted ADT rep.

The ADT agent I spoke to said that a legit contracted rep will be able to present a seven digit dealer ID number that you can confirm via ADT.

----------

So, if one is not provided with the ID number then Secure Watch may be a possible victim as well.

Just had a black van with "authorized ADT dealer" magnetic sign on the side stop by, "Sarah" said she's been on the job three weeks, they were up in Dry Ridge today and decided to take 25 down back to Lexington, where the office is. 25 goes through Georgetown... they wanted to place an ADT sign in our yard.

When asked for a business card, she didn't have one but her "team leader" in the van did, asked questions about our alarm system and nonchalantly looked in the windows (I did not invite her in). Was quizzed on what alarm system we have with ADT and shown pictures of what they can offer, asking if we had motion detectors, if we had door and window sensors, how it alerted to open doors (a beep or vocal - "front door open"), etc.

I was unable to find Secure Watch or SECUREWATCH as her heavily laundered polo shirt showed in Lexington, Kentucky.

My theory: the free ADT signs help determine who the next break in target is.

Oh by the way, the conversation was started with, "did you hear about the recent break ins nearby?" Your neighbor up the street was broken into...

It's good to be alert - there ARE a lot of scam people out there.

Secure Watch is a legit branch of ADT/Broadview, and it sounds like you encountered a legitimately new employee: the free sign/equipment is a real offer. We do the same thing in my area of Illinois, not to target your home, but to acquire your business for the long-haul, in a competitive market. We hope you'll enjoy the safety that the product brings, and advertise this for us for a long time to come - each sign gets us a lot of very real phone calls from interested neighbors. Well worth giving you a free system to go with your sign!

How do we know that you are not scamming right now? You may not be but all we have is word of mouth that you are with that company yourself.

You will have to take my word, as you either take or reject theirs. Difficult, in these times, no? But...

That's where it's up to the representative of an Authorized ADT Dealer - such as ours - and to put up their credentials, or not. In addition to having a current solicitor's permit from the local police department, I have always been happy to allow them to call my boss' boss at the Corporate Headquarters, and validate my name. Why hide, bully, or be bullied? I'm passionate about people's security, and I didn't get fingerprinted and a full background check for nothin'.

By this point in the exchange, the customer and I have usually been talking for quite some time, building a relationship. I'm curious to know more about their concerns, and they're even more curious to know more about me, and what our special advertising promotion consists of - much more than I can say for the people who flat out slam the door in my face, without REALLY listening to what we are offering. Their loss of a great deal.

(Which you won't get through the big ADT Dealers that you connect with online, or through the television offers - they will SELL you all that equipment, not give it to you for free.)

So, protect yourselves by taking the time to verify. Good luck!

Most neighborhoods have a no solicitation policy with signs informing the incomers about it. We simply call the cops if some crappy adt shows up in our development.
But the main thing to remember is this: ADT IS A SCAM, and any association with them will make you sorry. This way or another.

I worked for securewatch here in nc... The people you see walking around may have the dealer number and may work for an authorized dealer but the represenatives themselves are not licensed just because they have a pic I'd tag and can get you a security system for "free" its a load... Their reps spend 3 days in training going over a script and learning how too fill out paper work, and the reps don't get paid unless they sell a security system.... Also if you have more than a certain amount of windows in your house or more than 2 doors you will get charged for extra equipment... If the rep offers to throw in "freebies" for you that comes out of their pay check and they don't get paid unless they make a sell, which goes off your beacon score and the higher that score is the more the rep gets paid!!!! If you see them coming lock your doors and and act like your not home!!!!

99 bucks to get started (most the time this is waived) and you pay a buck fifty a day to protect your home, your belongings, and your loved ones, making the 911 call much more efficient with a simple push of a button or an offset of a sensor and all help has to do is follow the GPS because they already have your location in their system....sounds like a bad deal huh???

The people in charge lack professionalism! They half ass train their people, which is why they come off as unprofessional. I was in the field with a team leader that was about to be made Asst. Branch Manager, and heard her tell the homeowner that we had a 30 day free trail, and you could cancel at anytime. The fact is you only have 3 days to cancel! Plain as day, when you look at the contract! Luckily, the older lady read the contract and canceled before they installed, the next day! There is no promotion, this is part of their PITCH! Also, when they tell you about recent break ins in your neighborhood? This is what we call getting a persons URGENCY UP in the sales world. They want to install it that day, because they do not want you to cancel the contract. They can always wave the ACTIVATION FEE! So do not pay for it! It just comes out the consultants check if you do not pay it, because it has to be paid to ADT regardless! Also they can lower the price to $35.99 a month for monitoring!

I have been a authorized retailor for dish, direct, wild blue, hughes net, clear wire and ADT for many years now. im currently located in danville ky and can provide all proof nessesary. my company provides sales nation wide. this is the largest complaint we recieve. along with the fact a total stranger is asking for there ss# and cc info. there are very few honest people in this buisness period. even for the ones who can prove who they are. i stumbled along this topic by accident while looking for something else. for the person above who claims they are a dealer
" in a competitive market. We hope you'll enjoy the safety that the product brings, and advertise this for us for a long time to come - each sign gets us a lot of very real phone calls from interested neighbors. Well worth giving you a free system to go with your sign!"
this is b.s... how do signs in frankfort ky get you "lots of very real phone calls" all the way up in IL? your company # isnt on the sign. you are just a part of the group who was out there selling tring to ease this persons mind.. you would not also be saying
" Well worth giving you a free system to go with your sign! "
there free systems anyways dude.... why make it seem like there getting such a great deal. anyone can get a $850.00 for free. except for the $99 upfront fee. and that CANNOT be waived in anyway. the sales person cant even waive that and pay for it out of his own pocket. it is automaticaly taken out of the credit card the second its processed for approval.
heres the facts. on a ADT sale i make between $400-$1200 per sale. the person who actually sold it i pay up to $300 per sale. for satellite tv sales i pay between $100-150 per sale. and just about anyone can do this. sad to say but qualifications for the job are bare minimum. with economy the way that it is you will only see more people in vans doing sales. i have sales teams all over the us doing sales for me. if i get complaints on sales persons i do fire them but if no complaints there ok. i can go on and on with this topic but i have many other things to be doing right now. so if anyone has any questions about what to do or not to do hollar at me. if anyone is looking for a job hollar at me as well. winter is our peak season for satellite sales and adt is year round. once you email me ill send info and our 800#

They were at my house yesterday and tried to make my 14 yr old daughter let them in to wait until I "got out of the shower", which I was actually at work but she wasn't going to tell them that I wasn't home. I ended up calling the police and having them removed from our subdivision. We already have an ADT system (they walked right by the ADT sign to get to the front door)and if I want to enhance my system or change anything, I will call ADT myself thank you! They are really stupid for going door-to-door...and they DID NOT have a permit...so the police told them to leave the county and not come back without a signed permit! I personally know several people who will answer the door with a LOADED GUN if they do not recognize the people outside. Someday, one of your "representatives" will be shot and killed for being an extremely pushy, arrogant person. My neighbors said that these people tried very hard to gain access to their homes, but the homeowners are a lot smarter than that in this day and age! PLEASE LEAVE PEOPLE ALONE!!! WE ARE SMART ENOUGH TO GET OUR OWN SECURITY SYSTEM OR A SMITH-WESSON OR BOTH!!!!! By the way...why would you be in a middle class neighborhood at 3:15PM on a weekday??? Is it because you know that the only people who are home are kids???? Go get a real job and quit harassing people!!!!!

I work for Secure Watch in SC and we are a certified dealer of ADT. ADT has hired secure watch as a part of their promotions team and we are legit. Yes everyone of our employees are able to present you with a dealer number as previously stated. Everyone can be scammed people, companies, etc... But allow me to give you a littl ensight on our world. We work 6 maybe sometimes 7 hours a day 6 days a week knocking door to door to ensure that you are safe. Yes we are out there because of break-ins in your area. Our locations that we choose to work in are based off of a track record of break-ins that the company is provided from the same police departments in your area where you live.
We go door to door giving you and your family protection and for for tryin to help out your community, all day long we get doors slammed in our faces, threats, and some of us even get guns drawn out on us. We are out there in the heat, cold, and rain to ensure your safety for you! So yes, we are a legit company and if there are actual Secure Watch scammers out there, I apologize on behalf of the compnay to those of you who have encountered those scams.

Well I see what 3 days of training does. GPS what the hell are you talking about. Please learn how security systems work and how they operate before opening you mouth.
This is why you should avoid Securewatch like they are a big blue plague, oh wait thats what they say about themselves.

No you are not from ADT you are from Securewatch. The only affiliation you have to ADT is that you sell all of your contracts to ADT Corporate, in fact saying you are from ADT is a lie and false advertising. If I call ADT to verify your employment what do you think they would tell me??????

Well another dumb ass alert.

Securewatch WAS and IS NOT hired by adt to do promotions. You are a dealer. ADT pays you approx 32 to 35 multiples which means they pay you for 32 to 35 months of the contract. Hmmm you sell them a 36 month contract, you collect $99 and ADT then pays you for this. ADT did not seek out Securewatch, they had to apply to the dealer program just as every other ADT Dealer does. You may have a legit company number but you do not follow the law. Employees are not registered with the state when required, you do not apply for pedlar permits, dont adhere to solicitaion laws and you lie, you do not select neighborhoods based on police reports. People tried to implement pratical bird dog tracking and they were cussed out and told to shut up.

You dont even know the truth and you work for them
