Headline: IVY TECH COMING TO DOWNTOWN FRANKFORT INDIANA USA.

Sources close to this reporter have let it be known that Ivy Tech President Thomas Snyder has completed a deal to provide local Frankfort Indiana and Clinton County Indiana citizens with a campus that rumored to be taking up an older bldg located in the downtown historical district known currently as North Jackson and Washington St corner.

This latest acquisition is a direct result of President Snyder's "Accelerating Greatness".

Snyder introduced a comprehensive Accelerating Greatness initiative which combines the expertise of statewide staff and student leadership teams to develop, track and achieve performance and service goals, optimize resources and ensure students reach their educational benchmarks. Additionally, Accelerating Greatness focuses on making Indiana great by offering new and creative ways for Indiana citizens to access value-based workforce training to keep Indiana employers and businesses competitive in world markets.

Local dignitaries are currently mum on acknowledging or denying the truth of this, but sources close to a local agency have been overheard talking about this at local eatery's as well as board meetings.

There are concerns from local citizens, however, about businesses both locally owned retail as well as governmental agencies are being asked to leave this current location.

The Howard county Mental Health Center is going into the building on the corner of Washington and Jackson Street.

The county finally wised up and decided they didn't want to pay $40,000 a year rent.(I believe that is what the times reported they were paying for the space.)

However, there are rumors that Ivy Tech is wanting to come to town. It would be fabulous for Frankfort and Clinton County if they did.

The $40k figure is what Skippy Evans spews off Clinton County is spending for all of its leased space.

Let me see if I understand this... we want to increase shopping downtown, so we ask retailers and service providers to leave so we can have a mental health facility or a school there? The school makes more sense than the other, but still...

I guess the next question would be "exactly who owns the building that the offices and shops have been asked to move from?" Just sayin.....

Wonder if Susan Tharp will be running Ivy Tech if they come here. I am sure she will want to get her fingers in the pie somehow.

I think the only business that was ask to leave was the Washington street barber shop.
The county needed more space and had to relocate. They have relocated those offices close enough to downtown that the employees can easily come to the downtown during lunch to eat or shop. The Mental health association has at least 10 employees and numerous clients, so having them downtown will be good for retailers.
Larry Rule owns the building.

So, kick out a business that has been there for 90 years. Makes perfect sense.

I didn't say it was fair to them, but they aren't the first business in this world that was ever told their lease wouldn't be renewed and they won't be the last.

So why all the secrecy from everyone on this move? Do the downtown merchants want these folk around? Seems to me they wouldn't since this isn't a retail business.

Does this fit in with the Main Street and City's vision or is this just another good ol boy thing.

<quoted text>Thank you for the continued support! We are so upset that a mayor that ran his whole campaign on "Growing small business" and how "Small business owners are hurting and concerned." Would speak against us because we don't "Fit into my vision for downtown Frankfort." Because instead of coming to us and having a discussion about where we are wanting to take our business in the future, he, Carol Montgomery, Steve Frye and Jill Snyder just automatically label us as "A seedy establishment!" Are you kidding me?!?! Not ONE of those people have ever stepped foot in our place! They have NO IDEA what we do! They consider us a dive establishment that will ruin the downtown area, without ever getting to know me, my mother, father or anyone else who works for us! At our appeal hearing in Indianapolis last week, Mayor McBarnes compared our Pub to a college frat house! I swear to you. He said, "You can get alcohol at a frat house... You can get alcohol at a bar... So, yes. Yes I am comparing their place to a frat house." That is a direct quote out of your new mayor's mouth! He also stated that, "He understands the bar business, because he was the Frat House Dad at his fraternity." Really? This kid has never held a job in his life, yet he "understands how the bar business works." It was so ridiculous, you would have had to be there to believe it! It's a sick feeling to work so hard for 9 years to run a good business in town, just to be talked down to from a kid that was 15 years old when we started this place!
Jonas - Was either The Times or WILO present at the hearing in Indy?

I support your business & your desire to move downtown.

In addition to your comments, I find the quote attributed to Shan Sheridan irresponsible - and I paraphrase as I do not have the paper in front of me ... "I would be ok with the move if they served food as well"

I know Shan & Jason troll Topix looking for comments, so perhaps one or both will respond to this.

Can you actually name one person who labeled your establishment as seedy? None of the group opposed to you did. Instead of telling the truth you attempt to drum up support on this site which we all know has very little truth on it. There are already plenty of bars close to the downtown area so your's is not needed downtown, plus the fact do you really want to be located between a christian book store and a children's clothing store? Seriously Mr. Lenehan, you are showing very poor business judgement. Just because the rent is cheap doesn't guarantee your success.

I would think having the establishment closer to the Frankfort Police Department would actually be a positive for the community.
You would have most of the bars contained in a short radius; therefore, it would be easier for the officers to patrol looking for potential drunk drivers.

Carol go sale your over priced, low demand kiddo merchandise and let Jonas run his business.

Zionsville is a tough market so you move back to Frantucky thinking things are better now you have thrown your money behind the boy-king.

All along John was telling you the asking price for your store was way above market value and you could never sale. In fact you attempted to show John you knew more than him. You dropped the listing with him and then went on your own, dropped the price and still no takers.

Now you have store full of over priced product, a building you cannot sale and you have the business savvy to lecture another merchant on how to run his business.

Your business knowledge must have come from sitting in the library attempting to catch the kids launch spit-balls.

Give me a break!
