Jim Richardson's gift for his father's 79th birthday was a long shot. Virgil Richardson fondly remembered the M1 Garand rifle he carried as a soldier during the Korean War.

I sure would like to talk to Jim and/or Virgil Richardson about this story.
I'm establishing an independent Veterans Project in which a Michigan State student will conduct and film interviews with our veterans, then deposit a finished product with a Library of Congress project to collect such oral histories; we also leave a copy with the Michigan state archives and any appropriate local library near the Veteran's home.
We'd like to interview Virgil, and also to film him as he shoots his M-1 on 26 October.
What we're trying to do is not only to collect these priceless stories while we still have the opportunity, and also to teach both the methods of both film-making and historical / archival method.
If Jim or Virgil or a friend of the family is reading this and is willing to contact us, please email R D Winthrop <[email protected] > or call me in Lansing [I'm listed]. Any help making contact would be greatly appreciated.
And thanks for your Service to us all, Mr. Richardson.
regards - R D Winthrop
