"fatal head injury" if only there was something one could purchase to prevent that...

I have strong feelings against these ATV's. I see young guys, even very young kids flying around on them and it's scary. They have absolutely no clue about the power of the vehicle, the center of gravity, inertia and centrifugal force, so it's only luck that gets them home in one piece.

WHY in the world would a parent buy/permit their boys (sometimes girls) to have these deadly machines?

Because they are asses.

Now look what happened.

Completely NEEDLESS.

You've gotta be one of the clueless parents, most likely a male.

Did you read the article? 23 years old, riding around on atv at 11pm. What does that have to do with a young child being supervised, wearing proper gear, and enjoying a sport with his parent.
Sounds more like an irresponsible adult to me.
I guess everyone should not let their kids play baseball becuase they might get hit by a ball, play football becuase they might get hurt, ride a bicycle because they might fall off, go skiing becuase they might break something, run down the street because they might twist an ankle, get their driver's license becuase they might get in an accident, etc., etc, etc. Don't bash a mostly family oriented activity that you were to afraid to try or tried and became afraid and or got hurt because you didn't know what you were doing. If you kept your child in such a bubble, that's a shame for your child. I just took my 5yo daughter's training wheels off her dirtbike and the only thing I could hear her screaming thru her helmet was, "This is awesome!"

PA should require all ATV riders and beaners to wear helmets.

A helmut will solve just part of the problem. The roll over very easily due to center of gravity issues, so they should be made roll-cages as well. And, there should be age limits. I completely do not understand why it is okay for a kid to be able to drive a gas powered vehicle that can kill or maim someone.
