I am keeping this little girl in my prayers. I have a child her age and things like this can happen so quickly. I spoke with my daughter about what happened so that she fully understands the importance of safety while riding her bike.

I'd like to know how fast Mr. Farber was going, and if he might have been using a cellphone or anything else that was distracting him. Reasonable questions. I expect a thorough investigation.

Accident or not there will be no charges brought against Farber. He work's for Hope's towing and grew up in Tamaqua. Therefore has some useful/helpful connection's when needed here in town for just such a occasion. The Police will do what they can to help sweep this one under the rug as usual. They already have by influencing the info released to the press totally pointing ALL the blame towards the 6 year old girl. Oh and let's also mention she wasn't wearing a helmet. That's disgusting! Come on she was just outside playing and riding her bike. Was Farber wearing his seat belt? Because if he was that would be a first. At very least this article is poorly written, one sided and tasteless with no fact's for such a horrible thing to happen to a little girl. Let's just all wish the best for this innocent young girl and her family pull through this and not worry at all how Dan and his family are couping with this tragedy! Sorry just the way it should be when something like this happens.

I thought it was a law that any child under a certain age (I think 12) has to wear a helmet. I could be wrong but if I am not then whoever was watching her should be cited.

And this happened in Schuylkill Township and was handled by the State Police. But you couldn't resist that chance to attack the police. Instead of putting nonsense on here why don't you put an effort into praying for that child.

Wow did I strike a nerve? That was hard. Yep your right Schuykill Township not your problem. Exactly my point the department washes there hands of it. So not one Tamaqua police officer got to the accident scene before the State Police? Come on. Although I most agree with your accurate description of the Tamaqua PD as a whole "Pathetic"! Why not post some more important facts maybe the public is lacking here. I guess we'll never hear them. Oh and I thought I was very clear on my sympathy and remorse for the victim and her family only. Yes, again I truly wish for the best outcome possible for this horrible situation.

All I have to say to half of these comments is some people need to grow up. I pray for the girl and her family along with Dan and his family. This was a complete accident and it can happen to half the kids in Tamaqua. I hate to even drive through tamaqua kids are on bikes all the time no helmets in the streets and with out a parent. This little girl was supervised but just came out in front of him where he could not see her. All anybody should do is pray for everyone involved. And to those of you who bash dan.... Dan would jump in a second to help someone if they needed it.. Dan is hurting to and all his concern is that the girl recover and did anybody ever hear of a accident??? There are children in tamaqua probably from people that leave comments on here who don't wear helmets everyday now people make comments about helmets because this happened why did it take this for you to think oh my, my child don't wear a helmet. If you knew dan personally you would understand it hurts him to and i am sure he is making every attempt to check on the girl and her family. He is concerned about her not himself!! Thats how it should be everybody needs to be concerned about that girl!! Don't bash someone cause if you knew dan you would not even think to write these horrible things!!

No one wrote on here about their child not wearing a helmet...someone wrote that this child did not wear a helmet so why write that the people on here are thinking "oh my child does not wear a helmet". I wrote the very first comment about praying for her and telling my daughter about it...no where did I say she does not wear a helmet...I even make her wear it when she rides her skooter so shut our mouth! I started the commenting with my prayers to the little girl.

No you did not strike a nerve, I just pointed out your bias. How can we wash our hands of something that wasn't ours to begin with? Comments like that just solidify what I said above. "Pathetic" was directed at your comments not the state of the police department.

Yes you are correct on pointing out my bias here towards the PD, but for my own and others very visible reasons. Also I know that matter is discussed on a totally different forum, so for that I apologize. My true goal and intention here was and still is to try and stir up possibly some more facts/details concerning this tragic incident, which are still lacking and you continue being stern and dancing around the questions? Pleading the 5th stating that this had/has nothing to with Tamaqua or its PD. I get it. Your point is for me to quit asking for simple facts, maybe even an eye witness account with further details concerning what occurred here. Which you most be well informed of at least. Point well taken. Maybe I'll drop it. Who knows?

Yep, kids can are all over in most towns and big cities. Tamaqua isn't any different. Whether or not the driver has a good heart has nothing to do with reckless driving--speeding...as lots of guys tend to do.
"Not wearing a helmet" ? Yep, her injuries probably would have been lessened if she had been wearing one. As I recall, the primary reason why parents were encouraged to make their children wear helmets is to protect the tricycler/bicycler/skater/skat eboarder from crashes that are caused by a lack of expertise, and the buckles and cracks in the pavements/streets, not hordes of speeding drivers.
When I began driving, it was sort of an unspoken rule that, if I sped and hurt myself or did property damage, I could get off a lot easier than if I hit a person or, God forbid, a child. I was also led to believe that kids, more than adults, have an almost unconditional right of way. Hmmm. Maybe I've been wrong for all of these years.
If this becomes a fast moving case that keeps the public in the dark , I'm sure there'll be lots of raised eyebrows. Hopefully that won't happen!

ITOI you keep making reference to speeding and reckless driving. Neither of which have been alleged nor proven. I'm not trying to defend him but the fact is that we dont know the facts so lets stick to that fact and not assume. Not trying to pick on you, but lets keep it real here.

Dan is a good person who has suffered as well as the little girl and the parent/grandparents. This was totally an accident if you have been on old 209 road before you would know this. The fact was the child learned to ride without training wheels and came right out in front of Dan. This has nothing to do with who he is. The state trooper was there for a long time and even came back to look at the bike. This was a total accident and you should be ashamed to try to make trouble out of a very bad accident. God bless the little girl, her family, Dan and his family. The little girl is on the road to recovery. Be nice please to everybody involved

I never said the man was speeding, I only inserted it because it is a very common thing these days, along with cellphone use, which justice-minded people should keep their eyes open for. I want to know, for sure, that these 2 items were not factors in what happened. Everything I've presented is based on a worst case scenario and right of way issues. We're at the "if" and "what if" point in the case. When more facts are revealed, everyone is entitled to a strong value-based opinion on the driver and the parents of the child.
Again, I have not passed judgment on the driver at this time. Let's continue freely discussing this intelligently.
