It isn't just about food these days, and it's going to get worse...Folks are already having to chose between light bills and med's, rent or food, etc...and it's been going on for some time...
These "Homeless" programs that Denver has are not the "silver lining" they were promised to be, and they obviously cannot help everyone...The Food Banks have been running bare bones for years now, surviving largely in part to the local grocers who are now struggling like everyone else...Then we have "Back to School", which will be here before you know it...The $200.00 list of school supplies, clothes, back-packs, etc...that many will not be able to afford... I hope that more people will take the time this year to see what they can do, as individuals, to help others out...I make it a point every year to donate a couple of back-packs full of supplies to the drives, as well as donating food throughout the year...Especially during the Holiday's...Those $5.00 Turkeys can make a world of difference to a struggling family, so I usually buy 10 and donate them to a local church (there aren't many food banks here in CA)... Am I rich?...Not at all...However, I do what I can do at the time, knowing all too well that "There, but for the grace of God, go I... |

Hussie, how is the situation in California? Last time I was in LA it seemed there were far more homeless people than in Denver. I would think there would be MORE food banks. |

There's literally nothing for food here in the I.E., except the few churches that receive donations...You don't see Stater Bro's, Ralph's, Von's or any of the major grocers doing shit for the people here...When I was in CO, I used to work the food bank at Foothills Church in Arvada with a friend of mine...We received bread, hot dogs, canned goods, etc... from ALL of the local grocers...California is such a fucked up place that most folks don't care who starves, as long as the Laker's got their parade... |

Wow, that is such a shame. I mean, I know we could have better services here for the homeless and hungry, but they're pretty good I'd think as far as shelters and services go. I don't want to live anywhere that neighbors don't help take care of their own when times call for it. And times are definitely calling for it. I'm guessing it's not going to get any better with all of Cali's budget cuts. If you ever end up homeless (and I hope you don't!) you can just come on back to Colorado. I have room! Of course, we'd have to keep political talks to a minimum ;) |

Aw shucks...Thanks for the offer... The problem with California, in general, is that EVERYONE is for themselves...They think nothing of the people who are hungry, homeless, or simply on hard times...With the amount of wealth in this state, there's simply no excuse... On that note, when it's all said and done in California all that's left will be "Celeb's", ILLEGALS, and takers...They've ran off the decent people with money with their fiscal mismanagement, and they won't be coming back...Plus, those of us who aren't filthy rich are getting the hell out before they take what little we have left... California, and its selfish people have it coming...While I've met some very genuine and fascinating people here, there's a morbid camaraderie in their general attitudes...It's all about them... Sad... |

Well, It'll probably get worse before it gets better, so I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best!
