As a former vegetarian, I never pushed my views on others. If someone would ask, I would offer information. It is not wrong to eat meat, it is a personal choice. This should be a choice that one makes on his own free will, not be hounded into it.

This guy needs to do something more productive with his time then buffalo students with his way of thinking. My way or the highway? Start hiking.

"he will not return as long as meat and other animal products such as milk remain on the school menu."

He has *got* to be kidding. What a pompous ass.

So he won't return until he gets his way -- too bad -- let him stay away forever.

The Tribune is acting inappropreiately by even writing this story. By giving publicity to such media-mongers like Dave Warwak, they are perpetuating the cycle of empowering these people to continue to act with complete disregard to the students and the over-burdened school system.

Shame on you Dave Warwak.

Shame on you Chicago Tribune

So: he won't come back unless he's allowed to shove his minority views down an entire school district's throats, and make them eat and prepare meals for students to his standards? Is he planning to pay for all the much more expensive organic produce, seaweed products, tofu, and so forth? Is he going to be the one who sends home detailed nutritional information to parents explaining what his diet is about?

Didn't think so. Sounds like good riddance, to me.

What a wack-a-loon. Maybe teachers need to pass a mental exam before being unleashed on our poor innocent children?!

ByeBye you freak. When will lunatic fringe teachers like these realize us taxpaying parents will boot you out? Teach our kids the ciriculum, not your personal views.

They send their kids off to learn, not attend a self taught PETA convention!

Can you say 'whack-job'? Glad he is nowhere near my kids. The most dangerous people in the world are "Recent Converts", think about it.

He has good ideas but is going about it in the wrong way.. with me, I get more people intrigued and asking questions when I tell them I do not eat meat.. then they are the ones that ask the questions and open up.. and by the way.. there is a great book called the China Study.. you should all read it..

The wonderful thing about this country is that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, when that opinion turns to dogma that you're trying to ram into the innocent young minds of a captive audience then you must be reeled in and reminded that not everyone believes what you believe and you have the responsibility to be fair and unbiased. The best teachers I ever had were the ones that were different than the establishment. They may have presented you with other view points and things to think about, but it was always balanced with fairness and equality so we could come to our own conclusions.

Imagine if this clown had been telling kids of the glories of hunting or how important it is to spend 4 years in the Army. He'd get fired and the Tribune would ignore it.

This guys is insane! How dare him tell the school and the parents to basically go to hell. The children are not his and he should not impose his convictions on them. He disobeyed a direct order from his superiors not to teach his beliefs to his students.
If his beliefs are so strong, let him start his own school and recruit students with parents who have the same convictions. Or, he can change professions and be an animal caretaker. He can start by taking care of the rats on the northwest side.

Fire him. I wouldn't want my kids to be forced to live a vegan lifestyle at school. Just as this teacher has the right live his life the way he chooses, so do we. Who does he think he is, trying to make the school become vegan? You don't see the school shoving meat down his throat.
