2 officials accused of charging village for work on home

Two Fox River Grove officials were charged Wednesday with using village funds to connect a sewer line to a new home one of them owns, authorities said.
Daniel Hughes, 43, superintendent of the village's Water and Sewer Department, was charged with two counts of official misconduct and two counts of attempted theft of government property.
John Reese, 43, assistant superintendent of the Streets and Parks Department, was charged with two counts of official misconduct.
Hughes and Reese bought construction materials to connect a city sewer line to Reese's newly built house, then charged the items to the village as water-line maintenance, said Lt. Don Carlson of the McHenry County sheriff's office. Read more
