Forget the hamburgers, this is a National Landmark! The town of Fox Lake paid a marketing firm thousands of dollars to figure out how to draw more business in to town. So they are condemning a historical landmark that would draw tourists because of the history ... and decide to replace the bank and Ace Hardware with a gas station! Wow, that is going to draw a lot of people. Who is running this town renovation? A bunch of idiots. My first time at Fox Lake about 15 years ago, my brother had his boat here. He said want to see where Al Cappone used to hang out? Being a fan of The Godfather Movies and The Sopranos, I couldn't wait. I went there because of the nostalgia, not the food. With all the money in Lake County, you would think someone could buy it and restore it. Also brought my friend and his family here last year for pizza, after going to Volo Antique car museum, and they loved seeing the Cappone items on the wall. You are making a big mistake. My first impression diving down 12 was this town is full of bars and tattoo parlors. You'll never be Lake Geneva!
Dream on...

i feel your pain Sally
i've made numerous suggestions for new businesses all of which have been ignored by the mayor and other notable politicians.
Granted not all of them are great but there are a few good ones amoung the list.

As for the Mineola its a lost cause.
I wish someone would buy it and bring it back to glory but at a million plus price tag that'll never happen.

I seriously doubt Al Capone was ever in there. Anyone can buy gangster stuff on Ebay. However, the place was a pit 20 yrs ago, I can only imagine what it's like now. If it's unsafe...close it down! It's a disaster waiting to happen.

I think every town near Chicago claims Al Capone slept there. While I don't believe most of them I think the Mineola is telling the truth. Or maybe it's just that I grew up in Ingleside and heard it so many times.
