Too bad so many people who weren't there became experts on what happened. I WAS there. Thank God,19 yr old girl realized more vehicles were coming through the fog, jumped out of her car and ran back along the shoulder, waving her arms to warn other drivers to slow down. The Coroner said that the unfortunate victim appeared to have been killed by his initial impact with the first semi-trailer that hit the train. As for the fog, it went from driveable to undriveable in a moment, with no warning. One commenter suggested that the train operator could add flashing warning signs 1/2 and 1 mile ahead of the intersection, informing drivers in all kinds of weather (but expecially fog) that a train is across the roadway ahead, the same kind of flashing signs that warn of a traffic light ahead about to turn red.

It is common sense to slow down when you are drving... Pines, you are so clueless how the railroad operates it is pathetic. The engine has ditch light not fog lights. Railroads crossing are clearly marked with painted signs on the street also by RR crossing signs. It just pays to drive with common sense. It could have been a stop sighn that he blew threw and hit an innocent person.
