Did you see them open the gate?? No, you didn't. Neither did the kangaroo's owner. So, you tell me how they know the girls opened the gate??
sounds like the parent of one the "accused" is speaking out.

The girls wanted to hide in the pouch?? That sounds ridiculous! Hey, lets go next door and aproach a 6 foot animal we aren't familiar with and climb into it's pouch.

Why didnt the Roo have a name?

I am sad that an animal died in this transaction, but I am glad that no one got hurt..like a child. I'm sure if a child did get hurt though...someone would still side with the kangeroo.

I think they ought to import more kangaroos to give the Police something to shoot at other than People.

No. I'm not a parent of one of the "accused". But, in all of the reporting about the kangaroo, have you seen or heard one time where the owner said he seen the girls unlock the gate or that there was an eyewitness? How do you know for sure there were two kids involved in the first place???? Maybe, the owner just said that to cover his own a**???

well here we go again!----hancock county animal control gestapo!--first-it was an exotic bird that one of your staff members stole!--then it was a pig that was hesited and later cooked at a neighborhood pig roast(no kidding folks -this did occur) and now its a questionable death of a kangaroo!---whats next?---in this line of suspect ordeals?

If you only knew the truth, you wouldn't be saying that. But, I'll make sure to tell the girls when I see them that you said that.

Evidently you're not a parent!! If someone says my kid did something I know they didn't, I'd fight for them!! If kids are allowed to go onto the property then all precautions should be taken to make sure this doesn't happen!!

While I understand that sarcasm is hard to convey over media such as this, could you please exert some effort into not sounding so stupid? The pouch hiding was a joke, it was humorous.

Lighten' up, Francis.

First, to the person who wants the vet's name, it's not the vet's fault. Who knows how this roo's health was compromised by its confinement and then life on the lam. As it's owner clearly stated, roos don't deal with stress well.
Second, it's clear that the Schuttes should not have animals. They've already had three roos die (two adults and a baby). And yes, this roo's death ultimately is the owners' fault since they didn't do enough to keep the roo confined. They should not be allowed to own exotic pets.

In the end, the owner is responsible for making sure the gate is locked. By the way, on one of the news clips from Channel 8 it shows there is a red ladder in the kangaroo's cage. Since when does a kangaroo need a ladder? Do you think possibly the owner was working on something in the cage and forgot to lock the gate back??????

Sorry Misty E., many were hurt. Pets are one of the family. How would you feel if your Mother, Brother, or Sister died after being tranquilized? Do you have a pet? Put yourself in the owner's shoes. A graceful statement would have been best.

IndyCarFan and Dear Lord...If they didn't know what they were doing, they shouldn't have done it! Simple fact.

Bottomfeederfinder and Human? I hope some day you are reincarnated as a Kangaroo because your seem HEARTLESS!

If you would see the conditions some of the animals live in at their home, you'd realize the roo is better off!!!!

So, what was your hindsight idea? I believe the owner tried to get it to come to him and it didn't. How much of our taxes are we supposed to use to capture an animial? How much time are we supposed to waste of the officers involved to capture it? They did what the vet advised them to do, actually 1/2 the dosage. It was probably all the stress it had gone through (according to the owner). Don't get me wrong, I love animals, but ultimately, it's the owners fault.
