My child would never be sent back to this school and their would and should be some people arrested in this case. One of the saddest articles I've ever read.

While visiting many different special needs class rooms for my daughter to attend, I learned that the protical for handeling and out of control child varys from school to school. Some of these kids are so strong the teacher can not restrain them. Three years ago my child was struck in the head and given a concussion by another special needs student. The teacher was fired for leaving marks on the kid while trying to restrain him. That child was aloud to continue in that class. I pulled my daughter from that school over it. (Perry Meridian Middle school)I see this problem only getting worse until a new set of guild lines are set and the same proticals for all schools are in place. While I feel for the girl and parents, I will wait for all of the facts to surface before I pass judgement.

Wise decision not to home school your child, from the looks of your spelling & grammar.

This child was not out of control. She simply did not leave her shoes on. Maybe at home she takes off her shoes when she gets in the door. Not leaving your shoes on does not require duct tape. Who cares if she learned in her socks! Maybe she was more comfortable! her parents should never even consider sending her back to this school and the ones involved should do jail time and never work with children ever!

Downs Syndrome Creed

My face may be different

But my feelings the same.

I laugh and I cry

And I take pride in my gains.

I was sent here among you

To teach you to love

As God in heaven

Looks down from above.

To Him Iím no different

His love knows no bounds.

Itís those here among you

In cities and towns.

That judge me by standards
That man has imparted

But this family Iíve chosen

Will help me get started.

For Iím one of the children

So special and few

That came here to learn

The same lessons as you

That love is acceptance

It must come from the heart

We all have the same purpose

Though not the same start.

The Lord gave me life

To live and embrace

And Iíll do as you do

But at my own pace.

The parents of this girl do not appear to be too bright and live in a dump, no way can they afford private school.

i hope that a caring attorney will offer legal services to this family. then i hope the administrative and the other staff involved get fired. then i hope that the school system gets sued for big money so that the little girl can get a good education out of that abusive mess. people should be up in arms about this emotional and the physical abuse doled out to a little child that probably is traumatized now. the school should have to send her to riley for various evaluations to see how she can be helped. do not respond any crap about me not knowing what i am talking about. i grew up with a downs syndrome person in the family. my heart is broken when i think of what that little girl must have gone through. whoever did this to her should have to pay the price.

no. just so she is taken care of in a comfortable educational and environmental way. children with ds do not ask for much. but they should be treated well.

Not sure why this child is even in school instead of being homeschooled by her mother. She appears to be severely DS. Highly unlikely she will ever learn any real life skills. Is Mom just taking advantage of free babysitting?

every child should be given a chance to learn. it is obvious that you have not been around many people with learning disabilities or ds. why should people with ds be kept out of school? why should the parent have to home school a ds child? do you know what the terminology high or low funtioning means?
does anyone out there know if there is a legal fund set up to hire an attorney?

Are you just stupid? Do you realize that this child does need to learn and is very capable of learning? One day she will have to be on her own and do for herself when her parents are no longer living. Why shouldn't she have as much opportunity to learn just as much anyone else?

"Student kicks classmate in eye"
A student at a westside school for "special Needs" got upset at another student and kicked her in the face, requiring attention at a eye specialist, The Dr said following urgery "It will take a a long time for her eye to heal,,and altho it wont ever be right she is expected to be able to see somewhat"
The school is re evaluating its "no shoes. if you dont want to wear em" policy after it was learned that it waas actually the long toe nail that caused the majority of the damage to this childs injury.
Or how about this one
Headline:Schools outbreak of fungal infections traced back to the schools "No shoes, If you dont want to wear em" Policy

So mom of the year is too lazy to trim her kids nasty toe nails but not too lazy to interview with every news outlet that will give the neglectful sue-happy twit the time of day. Got it.

I hope the little girl gets the help she needs. Maybe someone will come forward to help find a better situation for her learning skills. She deserves better than where she was.

all school employees who knew of or participated in this event should be fired. why would i want my taxmoney used to pay a salary for someone who abuses a downs syndrome child. the administration at that school should be made to give the names of the ones who participated in this. after all, the little girls name and her face has been posted. why do we even have school boards when they always shy from the issues at hand? like classroom abuse. i am so glad that the little girl does not have to go back to that school. perhaps other parents of disabled children will be more aware of what goes on in the classroom.
