Mayor crows about state of city
The city of San Carlos must change the way it functions, holding off a decade of deficits and waning revenue by depleting savings and finger-pointing at departments and retirement requirements, according to Mayor Randy Royce.

The state of the city is like the state of the Titanic just after it his the iceberg.

Well, if the average assessed value weren't so pitifully low in San Carlos --- $400,000 -- the city would be receiving more revenues. Thanks prop. 13. Some of my neighbors from the 70s pay barely $1400 per year. Check for yourself online on the San Mateo County tax assessor's office. I can't believe figures like $1400 per parcel comes close to covering the cost of police, fire, library, schools etc. per year. And some of these benefactors are 2nd generation families who were bequeathed the homes and use the schools, libraries, police just like the rest of residents but pay the same ridiculous, paltry sum. Nice.
