Wanted to get feedback from people about racism here in Fort Worth. I know it's everywhere, but is it a common thing here and what are your experiences with it? Thanks.

Race, gender, religion does not matter any more. The new President "changed" everything. ;)

I an truly disgusted with what I have encountered in the Fort Worth area so far. My husband had to listen to racist comments from someone at work, and I have already encountered so called "professionals" who are racist. And I've only been her 1 month! When will people be able to see past skin color? What is wrong with people here? In San Antonio, we all live happily together without any of this racist bullshit. Maybe because it is a military town, or because there is no "majority" as the population is approximately half white & hispanic I don't know. But Fort Worth needs to step out of the dark ages, embrace cultures other than their own, and stop judging people by the color of their skin. B I don't want to be near anyone who describes people by the color of their skin rather than their character.

Guess if you don't like racism in FWT, go back to San Antonio or Mexico. Just don't live here.

Racism has come a long ways since I was growing up in Fort Worth. Maybe we still have a long ways to go, but we have come a long ways already.

Go to the North side on North Main and see the Isis movie theater that is closed down. This once had a separate entrance for blacks only. They were kept completely isolated from the white section.

We once had a store down town--Leonards. There were fountains marked black and white. Blacks did not ride the elevators--they had to take the stairs. The back of the bus was where they sat. I never went to school with blacks nor were they in our neighborhoods.

The sad thing was we saw nothing wrong with it. The good thing is we are waking up.

By, the way, Fort Worth is still pretty much of a military town with our navy base and many military retirees.

If you think it is bad--just think how far we have had to go.

Do you remember the shoe thingy that showed your feet bones, and the bread on a conveyer belt, and toyland in the basement, Red Goose Shoe Store, and Mrs Melear playing the piano in Leonard Brothers. How about that outdoor cafe across from the courthouse that had frying onion and beer smell around it. Also
the man with no legs that sold pencils.

Yes, I remember a lot of this. Do you know the song "pretty ribbons, pretty paper," was written about this man. Toy land in the basement--yes, my parents hated it and I could not understand it. Always met a lot of my schoolmates down there. Loved the train around the ceiling. Yes, x-rays of the feet; wasn't that fantastic? Remember the great days when escalators came in? Don't remember the piano player--probably just my memory. I went to school on the Northside of town until my senior year when Tech moved to the Southside, so many memories of the Isis Theater. Don't you agree, we have come a very long ways? Changing our attitude was one of the biggest changes.

<quoted text>
Much as I hate to say it, we made excellent strides since Martin Luther King, and then the public schools and our own government ruined it by forced indoctrination of multiculturalism.

Add to this the lack of enforcement of our immigration laws and a liberal, unrealistic philosophy and you have a recipe for racism.
Our laws are not applied fairly across the populace. Our schools and workplaces operate on "affirmative action" and you wonder why racism is still alive. It's because of a natural human tendency to, after you have observed a certain number of people acting a certain way, you tend to clump them together as the 'enemy'.(didn't say this was right) Instead of focusing on the REAL problem, which is inequity of treatment; we focus on groups of people. ONLY when we start to focus on the REAL ISSUES will racism go the way of the do do.

Also, look at it, we USED to focus on people that come to this country, no matter where they came from, who LAWFULLY immigrated to this country as AMERICANS. Now, look what follows. We are no longer content to just enjoy the mix and try each other's old cultures as we would a spicy new dish. NO. We have to make a special week or day. We HYPHENATE and divide. We CULTIVATE racism and separate ethnicity.

We are ALL guilt of this at one time or another; myself included.
That is when we should focus on the MATTER; not the persons.

My point, instead of gently instructing, we try and cram our multicultural philosophy down people's throats and wonder why they rebel.

How would YOU like it if you could not simply just get to know and love your neighbor and someone in authority displayed a disgusted with you attitude if you did not immediately want to come short of marrying your neighbor. I am trying my best to explain a human attitude, maybe not doing well.

Do YOU like forced relationships? I find it personlly nauseating. Well there you go.

You can't run away from an attitude. If you think it doesn't exist anywhere else, you have a LOT of traveling to do.

It doesn't matter where you live. If you think you can escape problems by running away, eventually it comes to you.

YES, we do have areas in 'hoodbridge'. We have our drug selling gansta wanna bes and gangtas. The welfare class does not contain only 'blacks'. We have our skinny as rails, tattooed, pants on the ground little white rebels too. We have girls who are mamas who don't think they need a daddy for their kids and who don't take responsibility for their kids.

We also have trouble with illegal aliens in job competition here. They see how many they can pack into a house, drive drunk sometimes, see a lot of them with big old SUVs and trucks that are too expensive for us at least. Along U.S. one, an old highway here before 95, we have like a little 'Mexico'. And there's a 7 Eleven. Some of these illegal "day laborers" have been caught using the public premisis as a bathroom, strewn their trash any old place besides the cans, hung around drunk in public and harrassed customers. So in this case it isn't "the blacks" as you'd put it. But you feel pretty funny sometimes being a 'gringo' in this area where they speak a lot of Spanish. As you can see it's easy to be 'racist' on either side since there is competition. There is some co operation too.

Face it, the problem you and I have is not race or ethnicity; it's the disparity. We don't like that some get preferential treatment and that's justified. Preferential treatment too is racism in itself; so is affirmative action. Unfortunately we have stupid politicians that pander to that division.

By the way, I love our country itself. It's the frickin atmosphere these days. It sucks. Courtesy of cell phones, t.v., computer, twitter, facebook, etc. and the breaking up and spreading of families all over the U.S. you can't really stay isolated. The sooner the rest of the county realizes it the better. I WISH sometimes isolation was possible. But I could tell you about things that exist that aren't in common usage yet that would really irritate you in the way of surveilance equipment. This is not grand dad's world, my friend.

If you want your area to be a certain way you have to stick up for it. That means getting rid of politicians who tell you one thing and do another in that area. It's too easy for an area that was once what you wanted it to be to become something else. All people have to do is travel and take their philosophies along. You especially realize this if you've ever been in the military.

As for us, feel free to lecture. Last time I looked it was still the United States as in one country.

I reacted to your bringing race into the equation.
My point is that you're barking up the wrong tree.
Fix the inequities and focus on them, and the misplaced racism disappears on its own.

Whites blacks Hispanics etc. They are all have racism. As much as we hate the other race we tend to like them a slight percentage ...whites hate Hispanics / Mexicans but yet they fill up more than half of a Mexican restaurant. Whites hate blacks yet u see them sagging they pants ( which by they way mean ur the bitch in prison ) acting like they have that swag that only black guys can pull of and white girls wearing apple bottom jeans with no ass and calling each other the N word.and it goes on and on.....racism will always be around like it or not. Its just up to the individual to change and except that we all are different. I love everyone white black brown yellow

While that is true it's only one side.
The other said is that people CAN learn to get along together.
All a person needs is MORALS, MANNERS AND CONSIDERATION FOR OTHERS which is sadly lacking in the U.S. today.
