Marlex mesh used for ventral hernia repair in Jan 2004. Surgery failed that day!! Was diagnosed with liver disease and diabetes 2 months later. Hospitalized with severe MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus)staph infection for 7 days. Was told by doctors that if mesh continued to cause staph it would have to be removed. Hernia is now inoperable due to mesh and to replace would be too big a health risk resulting in death. I am now on disability. My email is maryhawkins1026@yahoo.com for more info.

If you HAD to choose between Ethicon Prolene mesh and a gortex mesh...which would you recommend? In 2002 I had Mersilene mesh put in to repair a botched hysterectomy. In 2005 i began experiencing bleeding a discharge. A doctor eventually diagnosed me w/mesh erosion.During the surgery to remove it, there were complications. The surgeon said there was so much scar tissue that he literally had to chip it away and couldn't remove all the mesh. He somehow perforated my rectum and I nearly died. I was hospitalized for 6 wks, most of that in ICU. I was left with a recto-vaginal fistula, a colostomy and a huge abdominal incisional hernia. i tell people i feel like i'm 14 mths pregnant with none of the usual expectations. I've had the fistual and colostomy repaired and hopefully am nearing the end of my journey. However, to repair this extrememly large hernia, they have to use mesh....which terrifies me. one dr i've seen at UAB wants to use Ethicon Prolene mesh and another wants to use a gortex mesh, which has the one side that discourages scarring. So, any advice on my dehlimma would be much appreciated. I'm a 48 y/o woman raising my 3y/o grandson. I need this one to go better so that I can be around for him and will be capable of taking care of him. Thanks.

I would never have artifical mesh put in me again! I am presently suffering with rejection from Gortex mesh . My stomach is swelled ,red and pusy.I will be lucky to not get cancer. Going to have it taken out for the second time around and now will get alloderm!

I had an umbilical hernia repair in 2005. I dont know what type of mesh was used. I have had abdominal pain, constipation and then diahrea. Recently I was in the emergency room with severe pain in my addomen and they thought it was my appendix. It turned out not to be. I have had catscan after catscan and nothing turns out. I finally found a doctor to care and he is going to remove the hernia mesh patch. If anyone has had this done please let me know how it went and how difficult it was to recover from.

Has anyone had a repair with a 3D Parietex patch?
My problems and pains started 6 weeks after surgery as soon as I lifted something. It has gotten worse and worse. The surgery was performed in France, Shouldice repair combined with this patch.
The surgeon in my town here said my surgery had been "unconventional" but only pushed a couple of times on my abdomen making me cough, and declared there was nothing he could do. sort of some back if you have bowel obstruction. In the meantime have a pelvic exam done, maybe you have endometriosis. googled endometriosis, not ONE symptom coincide with what I am enduring. How does one find a surgeon that will actually look at what is happening? I am in Boise, Idaho.

In July 2006 I had a hernia repair a Medium Kugel Bard Mesh Patch was used in Ling.Hernia(right side) Repair I have had problems from the day I came home from the hospital starting with a pulling sensation which I thought could be normal but then I could not lay on my right side without it sending me into great pain. I then started with night sweats, excruciating pain in stomach, cramping after sitting to the point I had to wait to stand up all the way or just sit till the pain subsided. I have continual burning and pain on the right side I feel something moving or bunching up, To sum it up I am miserable and the surgeon that performed the surgery says it is nerves and I need to go to a pain clinic-I feel this is a cop out for the Surgeon-this was six weeks after surgery so I decided to just give it time without going through the expense of a Pain Clinic to just treat the pain not fix the problem as I have given this over a year I now have bowel problems and am told my surgeon has to remove the mesh but he says it is ok....Is there anyone who has this same problem???????Thanks

Joe,

Get your surgery records. The sticker from the actual product used should be in the records.

Had a small indirect inguinal hernia laproscopic repair completed on July, 20th. I believe 3D mesh was used but not sure who the manufaturer is. I am a 37 year old male that had been an athlete all of my life and always have been very healthy until recently. Since the operation I have had unexplained bowel(chronic constipation)/bladder(urge to always urinate with some small leakage) complications, acute prostatitis, and constant groin pain along with ED!!!! I've seen euroligists, a neurologist and a G.I. specialist. Five weeks ago I was as fit as can be with no problems at all other than a hernia!!!! This is all very frustrating for me...if anyone might be able to piece this together with me it would be greatly appreciated. The surgeon that performed the operation keeps claiming that they have never seen any of these complications before. This all obviously is not a coincidence and would like to get some names of anyone that can help.

**Please E-mail me Your phone # ASAP at Brosenberg1@bellsouth.net I will guide you through the Adverse Event reporting process and offer excellent research information and contacts to improve your chances of getting help. You are not crazy. You need to go to an experienced surgeon who is familiar with "Inguinodynia". Search the word Meshoma on the Net. I am completing a database of mesh complications (myself have been suffering three years.) and will send you very specific research to show another surgeon who might help you. Don't wait!! Good luck and feel better

Please E-mail me at Brosenberg1@bellsouth.net Many versions of the Kugel patch have been recalled!! I will advise you on how to file the proper adverse event report and send you research info. You will need to see a different surgeon who is more experienced in mesh patch complications. I will try and find you someone. Stay sane, be patient, laugh as much as possible and you can get through this.

Dear Frustrated with Surgeon,

I am so sorry that you are suffering with such pain from the Kugel mesh. It is not in your head and a pain clinic is not the answer.

I believe the Kugel Bard Mesh Patch was recalled and there are lawsuits over it. The mesh has probably rolled up inside of you.

If you have it removed, try to have it repaired without using ANY MESH of ANY KIND.

All meshes have complications of one kind or another whether it is Prolene, polypropylene, marles, mersilene, whatever name they choose to give their mesh.

I believe you have a newly named condition called Meshoma. Bruce from this forum has e-mailed me an article showing how the surgeon can find it, what it looks like and what you can do about it.

Write me at miamiblog@bellsouth.net and I will send it to you. I will also give you his e-mail address if you write me so that you can communicate with him directly. He has all of the problems that you do and will be happy to help you figure out what to do...and Most Important, what not to do.

peace and blessings, Lana

Hi,
I saw your post when i googled prolene mesh patch. My father just died from having one put inside him for a hernia repair in 2000. The surgeon took pictures of the surgery and the mesh had fallen apart and strangulated my fathers bowel, killing him but not before he suffered intense pain and then caught sepsis and pnemonia in the icu. If you know of any las suits concerning the prolene patch, plese write as I will not rest until I make someone pay for this.
Thank-you for your time

Hello
My father also just passed away from the hernia patch. He had infection in his body and the doctors couldn't find out anything wrong with him. He had some brain seizures, his bowels perforated, lots of pain and the doctors still couldn't tell us anything but he had the hernia patch put in in 2000 also. If you find out anything on this let me know. It is hard to deal with my dad was inperfect health no medicines nothing!

Hey Guys..I have so far received nearly thirty contacts related to the forum. The symptoms are very consistent, the suffering a common thread.
Please everyone who is interested e-mail me your address or phone # at Brosenberg1@bellsouth .net
I will send you a questionaire along with instructions on how to file the proper Adverse Event Report to the manufacturer of your product and the FDA. Once the Database is completed, Together we can make a change in patient information, product improvement, litigation and future diagnosis of the problems. Your name will not be used unless you want it to be. A # will be assisgned instead. This situation needs to be organized to increase awareness and communication to make these changes happen. Help us to stick together!!! I will provide Physician contacts who are familiar with the problem, won't likely send you away telling you it's not the patch/mesh. Good luck all, hope to receive your info soon...and try to laugh as much as possible to get through this..It'll get better.

Not sure if you had a prolene patch or other, but i have been going through severe pain in the area and has now opened up to over 6". This is not normal.neither is your complaint. I had mine done in 2002 and it ripped open in 2006 but have had severe pain and nausea ever since, alnog with the patch letting go completely. I am looking to go for a class action suit,in the being i can no longer work or live day to day without pain. My suggestion.....seek the advice of a lawyer, and, get your medical records. GL

Nick, sorry buddy, same thing in me...had it done 2002...ya know,I believe,we are a lot worse off then the ones fighting the keugal mesh repair. We have a lot more of us sick, and dying.Whats up with that? They get high priced lawyers appointed to them n sit bak waiting. We get nothing? We have a lot more reasons we should be suing than they do...there is a lot more of us in intense pain, sick, and a lot of us that in some way or another died from this. All i know,is I`m going to a good lawyer...this has got to stop. We,the people ,are not,I repeat,NOT,guinea pigs. GL
