Hello Patty....Of course all their trials were "successful"! Can't have any of those nasty "failures" now can we? I mean really? Failures with mesh products? Doesn't, can't, won't, never happen! My gosh our GOVERNMENT has refused to tender any thoughts or complaints about possible failures with mesh. We are all obese, drug addicted hypocondriacs that are picking on Johnson and Johnson/Bard etc for our own benefit! How could you EVEN think such thoughts about the ethically pure medical manufacturers that are there ONLY for our health and well being? REALLY! My weekend was great! Damn shame about your Raiders though!!! ;>) Excuse me while I quit laughing my butt off........

Hi Patty, I went to the Covidien website and product list, but I will try and search for clinical trials. I know this is gross, but what is coming out with my poo, is like blobs of cream, and dark like hair fibres. Also, to All Meshed up, a lot of doctors use the over weight as a type of an excuse, in my case I also had a severe spinal injury and in May this year after six years of 9/10 chronic pain,I have two steel cages, 12 bolts and 2 rods. I wondered whether the steel was doing this, but the prolapse surgery was in December 2011, prior to the spinal surgery. I know losing weight is of a benefit, but as I said a lot of doctors will use that as an excuse, and also in my particular case the spinal injury is due to an Work Place injury, and there may be a link between the spine and the bowel problem, because the witch doctor who did the bowel etc., performed a nerve test which runs from the sacrum to the private part and backside, and it was found the left was low pressure and the right nothing. So if anyone has also had spinal problems, and a prolapse of the bowel/bladder may also be the cause of the spine injury. I really appreciate all the feedback, and its good to know you are not the only one out there suffering. Kindest regards Sonia_59.

Hey Sonya 59, I hope this post finds you on a better day. Im not grossed out by your issues. Ive seen and heard some funky stuff and if anything your symptoms worry me. The bowels are nothing to mess with. Being overweight is one thing, but losing without a proper plan is bad. Your body stores fat and you lose muscle. Muscle is storage for blood as well as other important properties. My husband, the reason Im on topix, lost much of his muscle tissue. He was very muscular, but after 3 surgeries in one year hes not exactly healthy. He was considered overwright, but he was muscular, muscle weighs more than fat. I had to buy him new clothing due to his weightloss. What I and every single old timer here on topix would tell you is to eat as healthy as you can, keep seeing your doctor or find one who will listen, perhaps physical therapy would help with getting you stronger. Try to find a healthy state of mind and dont let your life be all about your health troubles. Above all, dont let any doctor or health care professional tell you anything that makes you feel like any of this is your fault. While we all need to be accountable for our own optimal health, which includes physical, mental and spiritual. We know our own bodies better than any doctor!

On target as usual, Patty. It is the muscle that gets affected quicker than loss of fat. Sonyas' situation is a perfect example of that. Her injuries exacerbate that as well. Her descriptions of what her body is now "eliminating" is the extreme of what we call "Meshoma". I hope that she is able to find the right Dr. and treatment soon.....Best Wishes.

I had Marlex mesh in 1998 for incisional hernia and also in 1999. Did not hold. Had numerous fistulas that to be packed every day for weeks. Had to wear abdominal binders every day. In 2006 had surgery for hernia repair and colon re-section. I asked Dr. Why he not put more mesh in for hernia repair. He said too much danger of infection. Still had numerous fistulas and still had to wear binders. Had surgery in 2010 for fistula and doctor said he would have to go back later and try to find all the pieces of mesh and remove them. Had major surgery 6 weeks later with a 16 inch scar. Dr said he removed all mesh he could find. I have had much pain and suffering over the last 14 years. Can anyone help me find an attorney who handles Marlex mesh cases? PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Just shedding a thought, it's not often we are able to share our life damaging story with a potential patient of a Butcher Doctor, but yesterday I firmly believe that fate and the Lord put me in the right place at just the right time. I bumped into a man with a blot clot in his lower calf who had set up repair surgery at the same hospital as my defective hernia mesh surgery was done, and low and behold with the same vascular surgeon who had butchered me on the operating table 5 years earlier, who I won at trial against, boy did I quickly warn this potential patient, he was so grateful for my warning and honesty, you just never know who can be a victim of medical malpractice and I was so happy that I could forewarn this man against going under the knive with this doctor who should have lost his medial license for what he was guilty of. Just sharing. Happy Thanksgiving week everyone. Amanda

My husband had umbilical hernia surgery on 10/22/2010, using Bard Ventralex hernia repair patch (circle). In April he developed a staph infection on the left side where the hernia mesh was. He was given IV antibiotics for about 3 hours in ER. It got better so he went home. He continued for the next year to just get to feeling worse and going to our PCP who put him through all kinds of tests to try to find out what was making him feel so bad. We are self-employed with rental property but he got to where he only did the things that were necessary and nothing. In May of 2012 he again got another staph infction at the same place but this time when he went to ER on Sunday evening they kept him until Thursday afternoon on 2 IV antibiotics. They said the next time he came in they were removing the mesh. Afte more tests he talked with a surgeon who had him on 4 weeks of oral antibiotics. When he didn't feel better Dr. Roberts did surgry on August 13 to remove the mesh and fix the small hernia someother way without putting any thing (like mesh) in. e is doing beter and feeling better than he has in several years. Has anyone else had this type of problem?

yes, my husband got MRSA after his hernia surgery. Then two more hernia surgeries. Went through hell. if the mesh peddlers had not convinced his surgeon that their mesh was the only thing that could fix my husband he would still have a life. The surgeons are so sold on the idea of the mesh they think of nothing else. We need more no mesh doctors. His could have been repaired with no mesh I believe. But Im no surgeon. I know that the mesh harmed him badly to the point of needing it removed after just 90 days. Then another, then another. Ill never have my husband back the way he was. Im so happy for you!!!! And Im glad your hubby is feeling better! happy Thanksgiving!!!Also, maybe share the area that your husbands surgeon is in, maybe give hope to others.

I have had 2 hernia repairs. One in 2004 for a umbilicus hernia. In 2009, I had a incarcerated hernia in the same spot. Parietex mesh was used. I have had severe abdominal pain, pulling, stabbing, burning you name it. I have been worked up through my GI MD. I have had problems with my bowels, bloating. I am a healthy, active women. I am so disgusted, my M.D. never told me he was using Mesh. I had a inguinal hernia repaired in 1979 and never had a single problem since no mesh was used in the 70's. In 2004 I had a Hysterectomy due to endometriosis, 8 weeks later I had a small bowel evisceration and had to be operated on once again. I was told I was meshed up real good the 2nd time around. I am awaiting all my operative reports to see what was used for that surgery. I am at the point that I wish I could get this mesh out of me.
Is the Parietex Mesh recalled? Has anyone else had problems with this mesh?

Hello All,

I am a 47 year old Veteran who had double hernia surgery repair done at a VA Hospital back in 2001. I have had pain on both sides ever since that the VA cannot do anything about.

I already have a copy of my medical record which states the type of mesh used was from the ATRIUM MEDICAL CORPORATION and was POLYPROPYLENE MONOFILAMENT SURGICAL MESH and also includes the REF and LOT numbers. along with the bar code ( all attached on the medical record ).

Can anyone tell me, without having to read all 6400+ posts if there is any type of recall, legal action in regards to this?

thanks

HI Todd, I am not sure whether you are aware that there have been problems on all different types of mesh, I am aware that Surgipro Mesh was recalled because of bacterial issues, and recent Johnston & Johnston took a lot of their mesh products of the market. I beleive I have at least two different types of mesh not for a hernia but for a pelvic/bowel prolapse and the mesh is causing hell! Good luck. Sonia_59

This is to answer your question, Todd, as well as others on this forum. THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON MESH! The only recall is on the Kugel/Bard Large Oval with RING. The reason this product was recalled is because of the PLASTIC RING that is "welded" together. The weld can break and the ring will cut or puncture all that is around it. There is NO recall on POLYPROPOLENE or other meshs. Johnson and Johnson VOLUNTARILY removed some GYNO mesh products from the market because of all the lawsuits against them for product liability. The FDA has issued warnings of "POTENTIAL" "POSSIBLE" problems with some GYNO mesh products but none for hernia mesh products. Your only possible avenue for compensation is a possible "damage" or "liability" case. J&J took their products off the market as a marketing shift. If you read between the lines that means, we see into the future and we are covering our ass. One of those products was NEVER approved by the FDA for public use and OOPS, J&J just happened to let that one out "by mistake". I hope that if you are trying to sue you are able to find a lawyer to represent you. But I will tell you now that Hernia Mesh cases are dead unless you were the lucky ones to get into the Rhode Island cases. Even then there is no clear cut verdict in these cases and compensation may not be what you may expect. GYNO mesh cases are the "hot ticket" right now because of the publicity and the amount of cases being generated at this time. There are many more of those products than the simple hernia mesh. The likelyhood of you getting a hernia case in front of a judge ( unless you have solid non-contestable evidence or death ) now is VERY remote. Even then you will be waiting for YEARS for a verdict and then the manufacturers appeal or out and out denial to pay will hamper you, break your bank account or cause you to lose your lawyer. I have tried for 6 years to get an attorney. Statute of limitations and medical complications took care of most of them. The complications and the cost to get a case in front of a judge took care of the rest. Until the FDA comes clean we will not have a chance in hell of getting hernia mesh products recalled and the manufacturers to pay damages. Thats just the way the "money bounces" here in Meshoma land. We are up against a government agency that has been paid off and a medical industry that has more money than God and more lawyers than money. Sorry to be so negative about your chances of a lawsuit, my friend. I am a veteran as well. I have talked to Dr.'s and nurses at the V.A. and they are unaware of any mesh complaints. As well as the hospital where I had my 2 implants. Scary stuff Maynard.
My advice is not to put all of your energy in getting a lawyer/compensation. Rather, find a way to get yourself better. Zero in on what will make you better, whether an explant or other further surgery or even a change in diet/weight might make life bearable again. Don't eat yourself up with anger over mesh and what it has done to you because THAT has been done and the only thing you can do now is to try and get better. Best of Luck and Best Wishes..........
