Kam Manufacturing in Van Wert, Ohio, is also losing jobs because of the consolidation that Vera Bradley is about to do. They have 140 workers and the owners are currently trying to find other options for the facility.

"The closings are attributed by Vera Bradley to its decision to consolidate all of its domestic production in-house." end quote.

Its a proud thing to see an American and alive textile manufacturer still left in the United States. Vera Bradley produces niche market high dollar items for consumers.

I'm not buying this statement" IN HOUSE" does this mean they will hire 500+ employees to be able to keep up with production that the former suppliers provided? Or does it mean hush , hush lets send our textile business to cheap foreign labor markets like China?

In house production that once relied on several companies just isn't gonna happen unless you hire on a comparable workforce similar to that of previous suppliers.

Are these jobs going over seas I heard that Vera Bradley has factorys elsewhere. If that is the case they lost my business. The whole reason Vera Bradley was so unique was because they were made in the USA Fort wayne!! If this is true this is very sad.

Patricia Miller, Vera Bradley’s president and CEO is also the former Indiana Department of Commerce Secretary. In August of 2005 she lead a state trade mission to Asia. Shortly after, Vera Bradly purses were being manufactured in China along with a growing list of products across the past few years- and most recently their new duffel bags have tags that say Made In China. This story is nothing new to anyone who has purchased a Vera Bradly purse or duffel recently, and bothered to look at the tag to see where it was manufactured. All of their textiles always came from overseas- and it looks like everything else will eventually be done overseas.

Wane.com is a little late in breaking this story. This was made known in the second week of January by Peggy Daniels- President of Superior Sample in Rochester. They have done work for Vera Bradley for a very long time- and management at the facility have confirmed that the work is going to China, causing the loss of 30 jobs at their location. The Rochester Sentinel published an article about it as well, but it just never made its way to wane.com until 3 months later for some reason.

Seems that sending the jobs to Asia would be silly. One of the plants losing the contract had all asian employees already.

China has been making Vera stuff for several years now. I was astonished when I went to the Coliseum sale and saw the little inside tags with "Made in China"....that was my last Vera sale....I can buy Chinese bags anywhere!!!

Just another NAFTA thing that Clinton screwed us over on. Heck i wouldn't be surprised if Vera Bradley is sending all there orders to China since its such cheap labor and screwing the americans out of hard working jobs.
I agree with you Pat A, you can go any place and find "Made in China" on almost anything even when it says "Made in America" which we all know is a lie.

Wasn't just Clinton......Bush 41 was the chief arcitect for NAFTA and Clinton signed it.

Funny how Hillary suddenly wants to change it. How many years has she been in the Senate and done nothing about it?!

She's been in the Senate for less time than a lot of Republican officials who also have not done anything about it........ If you're gonna complain about one person not doing anything, you've gotta point out everyone who hasn't managed to change it either.

I think you missed the point I was making.....even in a the short time she has been in the Senate, she hasn't uttered a word about NAFTA until it came around to her bid for President. Just like it is for all politicians, she is just paying it lip service to secure votes.
Washington D.C. needs a complete enema.

I did find a bag that I really like and it stated: carefully made in U.S.A. and it is a LeSportsac. It even has an American Flag emblem. So long Vera Bradley, it was good to know you.
