There is soooo much more going on at these facilities that people just don't realize. Especially OYDC and OYA.

Universal Health Services,(UHS, Inc.) in the news. UHS, Inc. is frequently in the news for substandard care, abuse, and fraud. Read More. http://failuretocare.com/

They run and profit from this place

Here is a list of UHS abuse centers. http://uhsinc.com/behavioralhealthcare.php

Your statement is so very true about so MANY of these places who are supposed to care for youth. The horror goes far beyond what most people will ever know or hear about.

My brother, who is now an adult was placed in a "state run Youth Center" as a an 12 year old boy. He, as well as others was beaten, raped, and tortured by older boys while staff either didn't check on him or looked the other way. Most of the staff was simply there to draw a paycheck and many weren't qualified to hold the positions they held. They lacked education and experience to do their jobs.
However, neither education nor experience is required by adults who should have the common sense and decency, to step up and intervene when ANY child is being abused and mistreated.

God help these poor troubled kids who have no defense or protection is these places.

I was there for over a year and Mr Esmond and Mr Martin were the best employees. They taught me a lot about life. They were good people. Just didn't put up with BS.

Maybe if you knew the whole story you would know it isn't abuse. Try working day to day with juveniles that have more rights than the workers.
I was a youth at gcya 13 years ago. I was jailed on my second offense(criminal mischief, for a broken window in an abandoned disheveled house) to a level 4 jv progam. The head of he program was a man with red hair, last name, johnson. I am a devout wiccan and have been since about three years before my incarceration. I was charged at 17 yoa and jailed 3 months after i turned 18. I was also married just after my bday. I was illegally denied access to religious material because it was deemed inappropriate, and was denied ANY correspondence with my wife who gave birth to our stillborn daughter whilst i was an inmate. I was also assaulted 2 times by staff and once by another inmate, tho the staff where able to simply play it off as a legal restraint using P.A.R. pain compliance techniques, which was mentally abusive far more than physically. I am a chill pothead wiccan and am not a violent person. I have NEVER commited a felony and am not a violent man. These incidents where unprovoked and un needed. I found this post on a random thought to search gcya. I am utterly surprised this place is still open with the rampant abuse and rights violations. I hope someone with power gets wise before this turns into another dojer boys academy.

I spent 17 months in there until I maxed out at age 19, the staff never followed the rules , I will say there were good therapists, but esmond is a joke , the living conditions are horrible it's disgusting in the housing , there's all types of mold and nasty shit. Take it from me I spent plenty of time in there threw 2008 and 2009 and it's a surprise it's still open , and as hoes for the kid Lewis who hit the other kid with a toilet lid he was held for years in there. They never let him out and he got away with almost a homicide ...please if u haven't been behind the wAlls don't speak on it cause u have no idea what happens behind closed doors in there it's pretty bad even for the ones who actually behave and complete the program u r still treated like a rigging earth scum. That place or should I say that old hospital converted into a housing facilities for youth parents please do what ever u can to investigate that place don't be fooled by the pretty lobby. And the nice lunch room during visitation that place is horrible

It trips me out I worked for oydc the bosses treat you like a king if you kiss ass and party I don't kiss ass nor party with the bosses ..I was fired because I got punched in the face by a kid and I took him down the kid was 6'6 he called abuse they did a investigation they closed that out the same day saying there were no proof of me doing anything wrong in the video I was fired because it looked bad on camera and because qa showed up out the blue I was fired but they never told me what for I applied for unemployment they refused to pay me so I reported them they ended up paying me so I applied at ysi and my boss for oydc said I was red flag so she ain't hire me but I contacted Tallahassee they said jus as long as I got a clean record they could hire me no such thing as a red flag so I now I'm taking them to court for slandering my name and discrimination and falsely wrongful termination
