I don't know about saving the city big money. For me its confusing. You see the Police uptown and the Sheriff downtown, and sometimes the other way around. They need to combine it either the Sheriff or the police. They are not going to lose their jobs over it, but it will be easier for everyone.

This department is full of racist and morons. Let the Sheriff's Department takem over. It would be the best thing for the city. I hope at least one Capt. loses his job...you know who are Nazi.

It didnt take destin too long to figure out giving up thier tiny department and allowing the sheriff office to provide coverage was a monumental mistake. Fort Walton Beach you have a deicated department , you netter keep them. remember, if crime goes up, property prices go down for a long long time. As for the comment made by a misinformed commentor about the police being full of racists and morons, why doesnt "laughing" check and see how many deputies are former police officers? LOL in your face punkin!!!!!!!
LONG LIVE THE FORT WALTON POLICE DEPARTMENT UNDER TEDS LEADERSHIP!!!!!!
