Anyone know what are schools are doing to keep our kids safe at school?

I don't think there doing much at all. There is only 2 school cops and 1 cops goes back and forth between the middle and high school. Kids are still being bad in school by using and abusing drugs and the school district hasnt done anything about but keep adding security cameras that they probably don't even use. If I were you I would keep my kid out. I'm only here due to my job and as soon as I qualify to move up I'm gone. I want a better environment for my family.

If the safety of the school district was the top priority they would have already initiated escape routes or contingency plans for each school. Ask your children if they have worked on any special or new fire drills. Hopefully these locals do more for the kids in this town because they certainly don't do much for the rest of us. Pretty sad really if you stop and think about it. As many drugs flow through this town it's highly unlikely they have taken the proper steps to prepare for any major altercation or event in this town. All we can hope is that those who live near the schools can be mindful of vehicles or weird looking individuals who enter or linger around their neighborhood school.

Fort stockton is nowhere near as bad as other places .I grew up in fort stockton and still believe people are not what some of you out of towners make it out to be. My child goes to school in fs and from the feedback I get they are doing drills and being taught how to react to different situations. If you don't like it leave fort stockton and don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you.Home school or a private school in another city might be a better option. Schools can only do so much ultimately its up to you the parent to protect your OWN child.

What good is the "intruder drill" when ur telling some crazy person in your post where the kids r practicing hiding idiot! Also, it is up to schools to better protect our children bc they're longer at school than at home. You can be the best parent, but that won't help you wen an armed idiot goes n shoots up your kids school. The schools all need to take a proactive approach to protect our kids when we can't !

Seriously? Do you ever take the time to see you kid during lunch? Or even bother getting off your vehicle to pick up your kid after school? Its sad to see the small amount of parents that actually set foot inside a school and see how things are going for their kid.And don't give me that crap about how you don't have time and can't afford to take a day off of work because if I can do it you sure can.I don't live in fort stockton but I travel 90 miles one way just to go see my kid every chance I get and I get involved in anything school related. To answer your question that type of thing can happen anywhere. Do you feel safe shopping at walmart or Lowes? How about at the entertainment place? Church?Better yet while your over there at Angels sweating, drinking and flopping around the dance floor like a fish out of water do you feel safe? Besides Angels many people take their kids to those places and how many of those places have armed guards? None.As a parent you too can make a difference its YOUR kid and if anything happens to him or her who's going to hurt the most the school? You know the answer to that question...I hope.

That meant no damn sense in respond to my post. But I'm glad to hear you drive so far to see your child any chance you get, but unfortunaty some of us parents have to work, so we rely on our children to be protected when we're not by their side. Even if u go in your child's school n participate any chance you get, that doesn't make the school's policies improve to protect your children. It's when tragedies happen unfortunately that people wake up and realize things have to change !

It made plenty of sense and I work also matter of fact I know I make more money in one day than anyone who lives in fort stockton due to its current economic state so if I can take a loss so can any of you minimum wage earners. If you want change do something about it, be proactive instead of posting on here or complaining on your Facebook. Its that simple. If you as a parent do not feel your child is safe doing a particular activity does it not make sense to find an alternative? Its YOUR choice and it's YOUR kid. Sorry to burst your bubble but if your not a good parent no one can force you.

That's so overwhelmingly gracious of you to tell us you make so much money...I'll take the Pepsi challenge any day of the week. Careful how you throw that nonsense around motard. Your liable to get it shoved down your throat. AND STILL NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. and what a role model for your children....GWOW is actually a joke because of your sarcasm lol.

I live here, attended school, and now my child goes to school here as well, I do feel that the children are safe in these schools, and just to reassure my peace of mind, I do ask my child about drills and I'm constantly reminding my child of how to go about seeing unfamiliar faces at school and that she is to report it to school personnel. I've also explained to her what certain drugs look like that way if she should happen to come across something on the playground, she is to run n tell a teacher!!!! All the safety topics should start at home when ur child/children are old enough to understand what ur teaching them. Just as u tell teach them not to play with cleaning products or not to touch the stove when its on etc....thats just common sense of being a parent!!

I love this "out of towner" vs "home towner" argument. I would challenge anyone to look at different situations and different people's lifestyles when it comes to out of towners vs fort stockton natives. There's going to be good and bad in both, but I will tell you, the majority of people from out of town don't come here empty handed....it costs money to move here. I would challenge you to look at welfare, for instance. I'll guarandamntee you that more fort stockton natives are on welfare than out of towners. Unemployed...more fort stockton natives than out of towners. The list goes on. Are the oilfields (whether up or down) employing Ft Stockton natives or out of towners? Are the prisons employed with a majority of Ft. Stockton natives or out of towners? While many (not all, so again, don't get defensive) of the natives are drawing unemployment, disability (often fraudulent), and welfare, the god forsaken out of towners are WORKING for a living. I will agree with you, Ft. Stockton is not as bad as many people make it out to be, but using that "out of towners bring all the trouble" argument just doesn't add up. Maybe you need to get out and see how the real world lives. I will also agree with you that PARENTS need to take some responsibility for their kids and GET INVOLVED. Again, there's a common denominator between LACK OF INVOLVEMENT and ROLE MODELS and the Ft. Stockton natives. Some of this may go back to the DRUG PROBLEM in this town. And yes, there is a drug problem here whether you natives want to realize it or not. Oh, and BTW, the last few drug busts...have the majority of those arrested been from out of town or natives? Just wondering....

Sorry but you lose easily.Do your job as a parent and quit blaming others for your shortcomings. Its narrow minded people like you that need parenting classes .Your out of sight out of mind mentality will only get you so far in life. Then again im sure food stamps and welfare are the only thing you and yours know. Matter of fact lots of the kids at my childs school see me as a role model because I do spend time during lunch with my kid and I even bring enough to feed yours im sure of it . Anyone can have kids but raising them and caring for them is a different ball field.Bottom line is get involved in his or her school and do what any responsible adult would do.Im sure your eagerly awaiting to file your taxes to selfishly spend that money on bbqs and beer while you lie to your child about not having enough money to buy new shoes or take the poor kid out to eat at McDonalds . People like you should never be allowed to reproduce.

I know for a fact that the schools are working with law enforcement and are even working to get law enforcement much more familiar with our schools.

Funny. I own a multimillion dollar oilfield company earnings exceeding 6 million dollars a year and you can only talk about what you think I am. Again I just think its funny that a narrow minded self proclaiming "great" parent like yourself would be idiotic enough to respond to someone who merely pointed out you've shown your ass here thinking you're better than anyone here and fact remains that I will take the Pepsi challenge cause unless youre making $18k a day like myself...stfu and consider this...just taking 5 minutes to type this response I made over $300. You're no one to compare to. Financial nor parental. Grown ass woman. What a joke you are.

We need police at every school. Call your school and the school board and tell them
